Today I was craving something crispy and fried again, so I picked up takeout from Pyeongjeong Dakgangjeong in Myeongmok Market, near Sagajeong Station.

I don't know why, but on rainy days or when I'm just restless for something to snack on, spicy crispy food is always what I crave.

You know those days when you've already eaten but still feel like something's missing, and you want food you can just pick at like a snack? That's exactly when dakgangjeong (sweet-spicy fried chicken) comes to mind.

![Takeout dakgangjeong spread out at home](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongjeong-dakgangjeong-myeonmok-market-takeout/pyeongjeong-dakgangjeong-myeonmok-market-takeout-03-6tptm-900.webp)

![Dakgangjeong and fried gizzards takeout set](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongjeong-dakgangjeong-myeonmok-market-takeout/pyeongjeong-dakgangjeong-myeonmok-market-takeout-04-bjixc-900.webp)

This time I didn't just order dakgangjeong — I went all out with fried gizzards, spicy dakgangjeong, and six chicken legs. Eating through them one by one at home, each had its own appeal, and I think it would work well for a group too.

## Where to find Pyeongjeong Dakgangjeong — near Sagajeong Station, toward Myeongmok Market

Pyeongjeong Dakgangjeong is at 51 Sagajeong-ro 50-gil, 1F, Jungnang-gu, Seoul. It's not far from Sagajeong Station and sits right near Myeongmok Market, so it's a nice stop while browsing the market.

Walking up to the shop, you get that savory smell of chicken frying, and it's hard to just walk past even if you're already full haha.

If you're near Sagajeong Station looking for fried chicken or dakgangjeong to take home, this is worth a stop.

## Hours and takeout

They're open daily from 11:00 to 22:00. Since it runs from lunch through dinner, you can grab dakgangjeong as a snack or pick up old-style fried chicken or dakgangjeong for dinner.

I saw a lot of people picking up orders on their way home from work — there's clearly a reason this market chicken shop has been loved in the neighborhood for so long. Calling ahead to order can cut down your wait if you're getting takeout.

Both reservations and takeout are available, and I went with takeout again this time. You can watch the chicken being fried and tossed in sauce right there in the shop, so waiting wasn't boring at all. Watching it fry fresh right in front of you somehow makes it look even more delicious, you know that feeling?😋 Being a chicken shop inside a market gives it a completely different vibe from franchise fried chicken places.

## What I ordered this time

- Fried gizzards
- Spicy dakgangjeong
- Six chicken legs

It felt like a waste to just get one thing, so I picked different cuts and flavors — and it turned out to be a really satisfying combination. Getting takeout to enjoy comfortably at home meant I could pick a few different things and taste my way through them.

### Spicy dakgangjeong — sweet first, spicy kick after

The dish I was most looking forward to this time was definitely the spicy dakgangjeong. Dakgangjeong really needs that sweet with a hint of spicy edge to keep you reaching for more. Pyeongjeong's spicy version isn't blazing hot from the first bite — instead, the sweet sauce comes first and the heat builds up after, so you can still enjoy that classic dakgangjeong sauce flavor while eating.

![Spicy sauce on Pyeongjeong Dakgangjeong's dakgangjeong](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongjeong-dakgangjeong-myeonmok-market-takeout/pyeongjeong-dakgangjeong-myeonmok-market-takeout-07-1vg14-900.webp)

![Dakgangjeong tossed in sweet-spicy sauce](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongjeong-dakgangjeong-myeonmok-market-takeout/pyeongjeong-dakgangjeong-myeonmok-market-takeout-08-1vknv-900.webp)

![Bite-sized piece of spicy dakgangjeong](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongjeong-dakgangjeong-myeonmok-market-takeout/pyeongjeong-dakgangjeong-myeonmok-market-takeout-09-7yu6m-900.webp)

![Spicy dakgangjeong in a takeout container](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongjeong-dakgangjeong-myeonmok-market-takeout/pyeongjeong-dakgangjeong-myeonmok-market-takeout-10-1qw5z-900.webp)

And what I liked most was the crispy texture! Even after some time had passed on the way home, the batter didn't get soggy easily. It wasn't quite the same crispness as fresh out of the fryer, but as it cooled a bit it kept a snack-like crunch that was great for eating slowly at home.

![Batter of dakgangjeong staying crisp even after cooling](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongjeong-dakgangjeong-myeonmok-market-takeout/pyeongjeong-dakgangjeong-myeonmok-market-takeout-11-1t4m5-900.webp)

![Rice cake and chicken pieces inside the dakgangjeong](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongjeong-dakgangjeong-myeonmok-market-takeout/pyeongjeong-dakgangjeong-myeonmok-market-takeout-12-1iuoq-900.webp)

There were also rice cakes mixed in with the chicken, so it was fun to grab a chewy rice cake bite between pieces of chicken. The sweet-spicy sauce soaked into the rice cakes nicely too, so I honestly enjoyed those quite a bit.😊

### Fried gizzards — chewy and savory

The dish I was secretly most excited about was the fried gizzards. The gizzards' signature chewy texture combined with the crispy batter gave it a completely different appeal from the dakgangjeong.

![Fried gizzards from Pyeongjeong Dakgangjeong](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongjeong-dakgangjeong-myeonmok-market-takeout/pyeongjeong-dakgangjeong-myeonmok-market-takeout-13-kb9ic-900.webp)

If dakgangjeong keeps you reaching for more with its sweet-spicy flavor, the fried gizzards had a savory, clean taste that had me picking away until the plate was suddenly empty.

![Plate of crispy fried gizzards](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongjeong-dakgangjeong-myeonmok-market-takeout/pyeongjeong-dakgangjeong-myeonmok-market-takeout-14-35iro-900.webp)

![Close-up of thin-battered fried gizzards](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongjeong-dakgangjeong-myeonmok-market-takeout/pyeongjeong-dakgangjeong-myeonmok-market-takeout-15-b72x7-900.webp)

The batter wasn't too thick, with a crisp bite outside and chewy texture still alive inside — it seemed like it would pair really well with beer or soda. It's exactly the kind of dish to snack on one piece at a time while watching a movie or drama at home.🍺

### Six chicken legs — great for sharing with family

I also picked up six chicken legs this time. There's just something fun about gnawing on a chicken leg. Unlike dakgangjeong, which is bite-sized, chicken legs let you hold onto the meaty part while eating, so they're great for kids or sharing among the family.

![Takeout box of six chicken legs](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongjeong-dakgangjeong-myeonmok-market-takeout/pyeongjeong-dakgangjeong-myeonmok-market-takeout-16-11r37-900.webp)

![Fried chicken legs ready to eat by hand](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongjeong-dakgangjeong-myeonmok-market-takeout/pyeongjeong-dakgangjeong-myeonmok-market-takeout-17-scunh-900.webp)

![Cross-section of a fried chicken leg](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongjeong-dakgangjeong-myeonmok-market-takeout/pyeongjeong-dakgangjeong-myeonmok-market-takeout-18-sbj5p-900.webp)

Especially if you're eating with a group, ordering chicken legs or gizzards alongside dakgangjeong instead of just one dish lets everyone pick according to their own taste.

## You can watch them fry it fresh

One thing I really liked about visiting Pyeongjeong Dakgangjeong was being able to watch a good part of the cooking process myself. Seeing the chicken get fried, tossed in sauce, and packed up made me think, 'ah, this is why people come for takeout.' Since they keep frying continuously as orders come in, it felt great to grab freshly fried chicken right away.

There are plenty of franchise fried chicken shops these days, but I'm partial to this kind of market-style dakgangjeong and fried chicken, so it felt extra warm and familiar.

It's less about flashy branding and more the feel of a chicken shop that's been loved in a neighborhood market for years. Which is exactly why it's the kind of flavor you end up craving again after just one try.

## Variety of menu options and price

Pyeongjeong Dakgangjeong sells more than just dakgangjeong — old-style fried chicken, chicken legs, chicken wings, gizzards, and more, so there are plenty of options. I also liked that dakgangjeong comes in mild, spicy, and soy sauce flavors so you can pick based on your taste.

Especially with how much a whole fried chicken costs these days, the generous portions and lighter price of market-style dakgangjeong are a real plus. Rather than sticking to one dish, going with a group and adding chicken legs or fried gizzards to your dakgangjeong lets you enjoy a variety of flavors.

## Final thoughts

This time I picked up fried gizzards, spicy dakgangjeong, and six chicken legs from Pyeongjeong Dakgangjeong. Overall, I loved that hearty, familiar feel unique to a market chicken shop. Above all, the dakgangjeong stayed satisfyingly crisp even after being carried home, and the sweet-spicy sauce kept me reaching for one piece after another. The fried gizzards were chewy yet crispy, and the chicken legs, being a meaty cut, made for a filling meal.
