## In short

Daseon Kalguksu Main Branch is a kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) restaurant that has stood on Hyanggyo-ro in Paldal-gu, Suwon, near Suwon Station since 1990. Arriving with parents before 1pm on a weekday meant no wait, and the table shared kal-nakji (kalguksu with octopus) for two at 32,000 won, one plain kalguksu at 10,000 won and a bossam (boiled pork) plate at 15,000 won; with no lot of its own, Daseon Kalguksu diners park at Samsung Private Parking Lot one minute away, which came to 3,900 won. The kal-nakji for two arrived closer to three portions, making Daseon Kalguksu a Suwon local favorite worth a return trip.

I first visited Daseon Kalguksu, a beloved Suwon kalguksu spot, on a date with my partner last winter, and ever since then I keep craving that spicy, hearty noodle soup. So this time I brought my mom and dad, who both love kalguksu, and we filled up on bossam and noodles together.

I'd heard there's a wait on weekends, so I deliberately went on a weekday for lunch. Luckily there were seats open and we ate comfortably with no wait — here's the review.

## Where do you park at Daseon Kalguksu? Samsung Private Parking Lot, 1 minute away, 3,900 won

![Samsung Private Parking Lot near Daseon Kalguksu](https://img.superchart.com/images/suwon-dasun-kalguksu-weekday-lunch-parking/suwon-dasun-kalguksu-weekday-lunch-parking-01-rbvlx-899.webp)

Just so you know, Daseon Kalguksu has no parking lot of its own. I saw some people mention parking at Suwon Station and walking over, but honestly that's a bit of a distance. Since I was visiting with my parents, I wanted to pay for parking right nearby, and it turned out Samsung Private Parking Lot is just 1 minute from the restaurant, so I plugged it into the navigation without a second thought.

The rate is ₩2,500 for the first 30 minutes, then ₩700 per 10 minutes after that. I paid ₩3,900 total, which felt a lot better than risking a ticket by parking somewhere sketchy.

## What Daseon Kalguksu, a Suwon local favorite, looks like from the street

![Exterior and signboard of Daseon Kalguksu Main Branch on Hyanggyo-ro, Suwon](https://img.superchart.com/images/suwon-dasun-kalguksu-weekday-lunch-parking/suwon-dasun-kalguksu-weekday-lunch-parking-02-1m7hh-900.webp)

Even from a distance, the sign had that unmistakable 'this place is good' look. Daseon Kalguksu has been running since 1990, holding down the same spot for decades, and now it's basically the first name that comes up when you search Suwon Station kalguksu. On weekends there's always a wait, and it's popular as a date spot too, so if you hate waiting, I'd recommend visiting on a weekday.

## The menu at Daseon Kalguksu and what three of us ordered

When I visited with my partner last winter we tried the kal-nakji and mandu (dumplings) in various forms, and this time we went all out again with kal-nakji for two, a basic kalguksu for one, and a plate of bossam. Kal-nakji is the most famous dish here — if you come on a Sunday lunch, the place is packed with people nursing hangovers, so it's often nicknamed 'hangover kalguksu.'

![Interior atmosphere of the old-school Suwon Station kalguksu restaurant](https://img.superchart.com/images/suwon-dasun-kalguksu-weekday-lunch-parking/suwon-dasun-kalguksu-weekday-lunch-parking-04-179qx-900.webp)

A Suwon kalguksu favorite that's stayed beloved for 25 years in the same spot. Lunch is mostly kalguksu orders, but come in the evening and you'll find plenty of people drinking with bossam and stir-fried octopus.

![Dining hall tables at Daseon Kalguksu on a weekday lunch](https://img.superchart.com/images/suwon-dasun-kalguksu-weekday-lunch-parking/suwon-dasun-kalguksu-weekday-lunch-parking-05-19nkf-900.webp)

The interior isn't huge, but the tables are packed in efficiently. We arrived just before 1pm on a weekday, and any later and we might have had to wait! The turnover is fast though, so it probably wouldn't be a long wait regardless. Looking around, most tables had bossam and kal-nakji.

![Basic side dish kimchi at Daseon Kalguksu](https://img.superchart.com/images/suwon-dasun-kalguksu-weekday-lunch-parking/suwon-dasun-kalguksu-weekday-lunch-parking-06-5l9fr-900.webp)

Honestly, with kalguksu I think all you need is one good side dish — kimchi. My mom, who loves kimchi, took one look and said it was clearly homemade. She tried it, loved it, and refilled it once more.

![Barley rice and shredded radish served before the meal](https://img.superchart.com/images/suwon-dasun-kalguksu-weekday-lunch-parking/suwon-dasun-kalguksu-weekday-lunch-parking-07-1uurc-900.webp)

The complimentary barley rice. Having barley rice before the meal really whets your appetite. Mixed with shredded radish and gochujang (red pepper paste), it's delicious — and with sesame oil drizzled on beforehand, the smell alone made me finish the whole bowl happily.

## Bossam plate, 15,000 won: boiled pork with no gamy smell

![A plate of bossam at Daseon Kalguksu](https://img.superchart.com/images/suwon-dasun-kalguksu-weekday-lunch-parking/suwon-dasun-kalguksu-weekday-lunch-parking-09-1kln7-900.webp)

I told my dad to have a glass of makgeolli (rice wine), but he said he'd hold off today and just ate the bossam. The meat had no gamy smell and was so tender that my chopsticks kept going back for more. We're planning to visit again with my partner next time, and I'll have to try the kalguksu set meal then.

Delicious whether topped with kimchi or shredded radish, this bossam plate at Daseon Kalguksu really hit the spot — the ratio of meat to fat was just right.

## Kal-nakji for two, 32,000 won: octopus for a clean, brisk broth

![Kal-nakji for two with octopus and clams](https://img.superchart.com/images/suwon-dasun-kalguksu-weekday-lunch-parking/suwon-dasun-kalguksu-weekday-lunch-parking-12-1aqmc-1200.webp)

When I visited with my partner, we ordered kal-nakji too, and it's honestly a great hangover-recovery dish for anyone who drank too much the night before. My mom and I both loved it. Inside were well-cleaned clams and octopus, and the broth was so refreshing.

By the way, kal-nakji can be customized to taste:

- Broth-style / thick-style
- Mild / spicy
- I went with broth-style and mild.

What surprised me most was that the 'two-person' portion was nearly enough for three — my mom and I got so full we had to leave a little behind. The chewy noodles soaked up that spicy broth perfectly, making it a truly delicious Suwon kalguksu spot.

Look at those chewy noodles. It was my mom's first time having kal-nakji, and she was very satisfied, saying the broth was refreshing and delicious — which made me proud.

Daseon Kalguksu is also a popular date spot on weekends. It has that genuine Suwon local-favorite feel, and thanks to its accessible location, customers kept streaming in even during a weekday lunch.

![Kal-nakji broth packed with ingredients](https://img.superchart.com/images/suwon-dasun-kalguksu-weekday-lunch-parking/suwon-dasun-kalguksu-weekday-lunch-parking-16-1hed9-900.webp)

You could really tell the owner doesn't skimp on ingredients — plenty of clams, plenty of octopus. That's clearly why business is booming. The flavor isn't overly intense, just spicy and refreshing, and I kept thinking about the kal-nakji even after I got home.

The broth was so refreshing that I kept wanting more of it. If I ever have a heavy drinking night, I'll definitely come back here for the hangover cure.

![Kalguksu noodles topped with a piece of kimchi](https://img.superchart.com/images/suwon-dasun-kalguksu-weekday-lunch-parking/suwon-dasun-kalguksu-weekday-lunch-parking-19-16o4l-900.webp)

Slurping down the noodles with a piece of kimchi on top was so good. The broth had a deep flavor that made every bite enjoyable.

## Plain kalguksu, 10,000 won, for a dad who can't eat spicy food

![A basic kalguksu serving for one at Daseon Kalguksu](https://img.superchart.com/images/suwon-dasun-kalguksu-weekday-lunch-parking/suwon-dasun-kalguksu-weekday-lunch-parking-20-pgrgs-900.webp)

My dad can't handle even a little spice, so he ordered the basic kalguksu. Even a single serving came in a deep bowl with a generous amount. My dad, who loves kalguksu, finished the whole thing without leaving a drop.

![Kalguksu with clams in an anchovy broth](https://img.superchart.com/images/suwon-dasun-kalguksu-weekday-lunch-parking/suwon-dasun-kalguksu-weekday-lunch-parking-21-1amx3-900.webp)

It had clams inside, chewy noodles, and a refreshing broth — I stole a bite too, and the broth was genuinely refreshing. It's an anchovy-based broth, so it's the kind of kalguksu almost anyone can enjoy without complaint.

My dad ate happily, thoroughly satisfied — this is a Suwon favorite and kalguksu spot I'd genuinely recommend. It's great for a date with a partner, and just as great for visiting with your parents like I did, a true Suwon local favorite. Daseon Kalguksu is worth returning to again and again.
