## The day Haetae met Hurato like fate

Today’s Haetae feeding spot is somewhere Haetae has been visiting for a seriously long time. It’s Hurato Sikdang Gyeongbokgung Main Branch, in the basement of Royal Building in Gwanghwamun~

One day, while wandering around Royal Building’s basement at lunch, Haetae found this place as if by fate. For a Japanese-food-loving Haetae, Hurato was… pure happiness itself~ haha. Ever since then, Haetae has come back whenever the craving strikes—so many years now that Haetae has lost count.

## Lunch with coworkers: how does the wait work?

Then a great opportunity came along, so this time Haetae rounded up a whole herd of coworkers for lunch!! Follow Haetae~ Delicious food shall be fed unto you~ haha

Hurato is on B1 of the Royal Building Arcade. There’s a waiting-registration machine right at the entrance.

But here’s the thing. Even when Haetae rushed there like crazy at 11:20 for an 11:30 opening… not number one!! haha

So Haetae usually sends one person ahead to register on Catchtable, while everyone else comes along slowly at the right time. Haha. This time, Haetae noticed weekday opening hours had changed to 11:00. If you can make it early, 11:00 is probably a good call even if lunch feels a bit early. From 11:30 to noon, the army of Korean office workers is scheduled to descend~^^

## A lunchtime space that feels like a quick trip to Japan

Step inside and there are wood-toned tables, lighting, and Japanese-style posters on the walls~ Haetae only came downstairs in Gwanghwamun for lunch, but it feels like a tiny lunchtime trip to Japan~^^

As you can see, even with quite a few tables, the place fills up quickly at lunchtime.

And even during the busy lunch rush, the staff are so kind~ Their service feels lovely without Haetae even having to ask for anything. Boss~ please treat your staff well!! Hold on tight so they can’t run away elsewhere!! haha

## Individual braziers and the Set 3 we ordered

Each seat comes with a brazier for grilling your own meat. We came to grill meat, after all~^^

This is one reason Haetae loves Hurato! Instead of cooking all the meat at once, you put on only what you want to eat and have it right away at your preferred doneness. Now~ all we need is the meat~^^

We ordered Set 3 that day for ₩59,500: one gyukatsu, one gyusteki, one barbecue chicken rice bowl, and three drinks! We also added chicken karaage for ₩6,000. If you’re not full after all this… you’re not human~ haha

## Gyukatsu dipped in wasabi and salt

First, gyukatsu!! Gyu means beef, and katsu is that fried thing we all know~ haha. Hurato’s gyukatsu arrives still pink inside rather than fully cooked through.

Place a piece gently on the brazier~ sizzle sizzle sizzle~~ The fat renders as the beef cooks. Wait… what are we supposed to do when even the sound tastes delicious?! haha. Haetae’s favorite combination is a little wasabi, then a dip in salt!!

The salt crystals are a little large and have a faint sweetness, and with this combination… it’s so, so good… your eyes snap right open!! haha

## Haetae’s true favorite: gyusteki

But Haetae has a real number-one favorite~ Gyu. Su. Te. Ki!! Gyu means beef, suteki means steak~ It looks a little different from the thick steak we usually imagine.

The moderately thick beef is lightly seared just on the outside and sliced almost like sashimi; when Haetae first saw it, it even felt a bit like aged beef. Haetae has eaten it barely grilled and fully cooked too~ both delicious… so delicious it brings tears…ㅠㅠ

Another reason Haetae loves gyusteki is that it isn’t greasy! Haetae usually goes for the gyusteki set meal + extra meat!! That’s how much it takes to leave satisfied. Haha

## Oyakodon memories in the barbecue chicken rice bowl

And here is something Haetae tried for the first time! The barbecue chicken rice bowl.

It seemed to be a new menu item, so Haetae ordered it… and after one bite, what popped into Haetae’s mind?! Wow~~~ this is oyakodon?!?!

Oya means parent, ko means child. It’s a Japanese rice bowl with chicken and egg together.

For Haetae, it is also a nostalgic food that Haetae ate often while studying abroad. Haetae had quietly been disappointed at rarely finding oyakodon in Korea that hit the spot… but this barbecue chicken rice bowl brought those memories gently bubbling back~ Little drops of flavor and memories~ㅠㅠ Thanks to it, lunch was such a happy one~^^

## Chicken karaage and the beer Haetae had to resist

And finally, chicken karaage arrives!!

It looks great~ the frying is exactly Haetae’s style~ and Haetae kept reaching for the white sauce served alongside it… Huh?! It looks like mayonnaise, so why isn’t it rich and heavy?! Even Haetae, who normally doesn’t dip much sauce, kept dipping and dipping.

But a big problem arose here. Haetae… chose the menu wrong!! Why? Because it made Haetae want beer so badly!!! haha Are we really meant to eat this without beer?! Office-worker Haetae still had afternoon work ahead…

Haetae only watched other tables drinking and resisted through tears.ㅠㅠ

Actually, Haetae has a daytime-beer record at Hurato. Haha. Once, Haetae even took a half-day off to come here with a friend for gyusteki and beer!! haha. Haetae didn’t know back then that break time started at 3:00… so we wolfed it down, but with beer too, we got unbelievably full!! Then we even added extra gyusteki meat, and later on… Haetae could barely walk… haha. Greed always comes at a price. Haha

## Haetae is on team salt

Hurato serves sauces to have with the meat, but this is entirely Haetae’s personal preference! The chili sauce and soy sauce were a little sweet for Haetae, making the meat’s flavor feel slightly hidden.

Haetae’s number-one choice is wasabi + salt!! With this combination, both the gyukatsu and gyusteki keep Haetae’s spoon… no, chopsticks busy. Haha

## A Gwanghwamun lunch spot that is great for guests

Haetae has kept coming to Hurato for years because it tastes good, of course, but it is also so versatile. It is great for lunch with coworkers, and grilling beef yourself over an individual brazier makes it feel a little different from an ordinary lunch.

Haetae has especially often chosen Hurato when hosting guests for a meal. Never failed so far!! When Haetae wants a not-too-grand beef meal at lunch, this has been on Haetae’s Gwanghwamun feeding list for quite a long time~^^

Hurato was met like fate one day in Royal Building’s basement. Even after years, Haetae still goes. The gyukatsu is delicious~ the new rice bowl brought back study-abroad memories~ and the karaage made Haetae crave beer… but Haetae’s unshakable number one is!! Gyu. Su. Te. Ki!! When Haetae goes to Hurato, Haetae eats gyusteki~^^ Ah… with beer too, if possible~ haha
