O Hyeongje Hwangje Nurungjitang, a popular spot near Starfield Hanam. Every time I passed by it was packed, so I finally went with my baby this time! 👵👴

## No jajangmyeon or jjamppong on the menu, so what did we order?

The Misa branch of O Hyeongje Hwangje Nurungjitang is technically a Chinese restaurant, but it doesn't sell jajangmyeon (black bean noodles) or jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup) — it's a Hanam nurungjitang (scorched rice soup) specialist. We ordered the seafood abalone rice soup and the mini tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork).

The side dishes set out at the self-serve bar at O Hyeongje Hwangje Nurungjitang: salad, dongchimi (radish water kimchi), baek-kimchi (white kimchi), mu-mallaengi (dried radish strips), napa cabbage kimchi, pa-kimchi (green onion kimchi), chwinamul (aster greens, I think), and oranges 🍊 for dessert. The kimchi varieties are also sold to take home, and the pa-kimchi was genuinely delicious.

## How long is the weekend wait? 30 minutes at 12pm on Saturday

The place is huge, but O Hyeongje Hwangje Nurungjitang was still completely full. Both Naver Reservation and phone reservations are possible, so if you're planning a weekend visit, I'd definitely recommend booking ahead. We came around noon on Saturday and waited 30 minutes before getting seated.

## Mini tenderloin tangsuyuk (20,000 won): enough for two

The mini fresh tenderloin tangsuyuk at O Hyeongje Hwangje Nurungjitang is ₩20,000. Made with fresh pork tenderloin, it's soft with no gamey smell, and the tangsuyuk here comes buhmeok style (sauce poured over rather than served on the side). Eating the broccoli, tomato, and pineapple garnish together with the sauce makes it taste even better.

Since this place specializes in nurungjitang I didn't expect much from the tangsuyuk, but the coating was thin and the meat so tender it was really delicious. It's labeled mini but the portion is plenty for two people! It's one of those dishes that shows up on every table.

## Seafood abalone nurungjitang (20,000 won): even the 1-year-old finished a bowl

The seafood abalone rice soup at O Hyeongje Hwangje Nurungjitang is ₩20,000. It's a seafood-packed nurungjitang loaded with mushrooms, shrimp, squid, and scallops, topped with wild ginseng sprouts and a whole abalone — the signature dish. It looks healthy just to look at.

Most families in the restaurant had brought along grandparents, and there was a reason for that. This was my first time having nurungjitang, and the appeal of the mild, lightly seasoned sauce with the crispy-chewy scorched rice and seafood was really something 💙 Topping it with the pa-kimchi or dried radish strips made it even better...

Since the seasoning isn't strong, I tried giving it to my low-sodium-diet baby, and it turned out she loved it and ate a ton (guess I didn't need to pack the baby food after all haha). Even after finishing her baby food, our little one polished off a whole bowl of scallops, shrimp, and scorched rice.

Highly recommended for anyone who wants to treat their parents to a healthy meal — O Hyeongje Hwangje Nurungjitang Hanam Misa Main Branch.
