## In short

Anok is a Korean restaurant in Mapo, Seoul, serving gomtang, Pyongyang naengmyeon, and braised pork tails in a hanok-style setting. I loved the generous clear gomtang, mild cold noodles, and pleasantly spicy pork tails—and refilled the crunchy gungchae twice. Verdict: A lovely, filling lunch spot with a traditional Korean view.

## Anok, the hanok restaurant I found in a Hongdae alley

Anok (안옥)

There are loads of restaurants and famous spots in Hongdae, but this was my first time finding one with such an intensely Korean traditional vibe ( ੭ ̇ᗜ ̇ )੭

![Alley leading to Anok in Hongdae](https://img.superchart.com/images/hongdae-hanok-gungchae-lunch-anok/hongdae-hanok-gungchae-lunch-anok-02-1o4ty-900.webp)

Walk up stairs like these from Hongdae's main street, then duck slightly into an alley...

And suddenly, it gets so tranquil... I loved it.

I seriously love places like hanok and temples... Is it even okay for a restaurant to have this much atmosphere..? While I was taking photos, passersby kept stopping out front and looking around, wondering what kind of place it was.

## A wide-ranging menu, from gomtang to pancakes

This is the kind of thing they sell (,,• ֊ •,,)♡ Pyongyang naengmyeon and gomtang do feel a little unexpected in Hongdae (p) There was also such a huge variety of dishes, including yukhoe bibimbap, kimchi pancake, and shredded-potato pancake! The yukhoe looked delicious too...

Broth simmered for 48 hours... The care is unreal, right? No wonder it tasted so good.

## A neat interior for solo meals or gatherings

The interior was so neat and pretty too... I loved how clean it was ㅜㅜ It would be great for bringing parents or older family members, or for coming with international friends! There was even an international visitor eating alone while we had our meal. And for groups, they can join tables together to make space~! It seemed perfect for company dinners or get-togethers too. We went a little after the lunch rush, but there were still lots of diners, so I only barely managed to snap these quickly on the way out.

A finger deciding what to order

The side dishes were neat too. The kimchi and kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi) were both delicious, and the gungchae—crunchy, refreshing stem lettuce—was so good that I refilled it twice.

Our seat was sooo good.. 💚 How could you not love eating lunch while looking at lush green trees and a hanok view outside..? How is there a place like this in Hongdae..?

## A full spread of clear gomtang, Pyongyang naengmyeon, and braised pork tails

Our food came out quickly. For the meal, we had clear gomtang, Pyongyang naengmyeon, and braised pork tails! I'd never tried braised pork tails before, so I just ordered them on the spot.

A look that couldn't possibly taste bad... The portions were huge too.

Both the clear gomtang and Pyongyang naengmyeon had so much meat in them... Thank youuuu. Such a beautiful table spread.. 🤍

### Braised pork tails, a little like spicy jokbal

My friend kept helping because I said I was posting on the blog;; haha;; The braised pork tails felt similar to spicy jokbal (braised pig's trotters), but with a much higher ratio of skin than the lean meat in jokbal! Since the gomtang and Pyongyang naengmyeon were relatively mild, they were perfect to eat alongside them. It wasn't super spicy—just deliciously spicy—so I think even people who aren't great with heat could eat it without a problem➰

### Clear gomtang packed with meat

You can see how substantial the meat is, right..? I loved the milky-clear broth and rice, served at just the right temperature—maybe prepared using the toryeom method of warming the rice in broth. Sometimes I crave Busan-style dwaeji-gukbap (pork soup with rice), and sometimes I crave a clear gukbap like this, but it is pretty hard to find this kind of clear soup... But there's one in Hongdae? Such a win. There was seriously so much meat that I couldn't eat much rice because I was too busy eating meat ㅜhaha The sliced pork + kkakdugi + gungchae combo was absolute heaven.

### A Pyongyang naengmyeon enthusiast's verdict

I don't know much about Pyongyang naengmyeon, so I left the review to my friend. Even for a Pyongyang naengmyeon enthusiast, they said it was very mild! But as you keep drinking the broth, you start to taste its savory depth➰ And the noodles were so good that my friend was just inhaling them... My friend couldn't even finish all the meat because they were busy eating noodles ㅜhaha Ah, what a shame. They said they would recommend it to anyone who loves Pyongyang naengmyeon! It isn't easy to find Pyongyang naengmyeon in Hongdae, so enthusiasts who live nearby or visit Hongdae often would be totally pleased.

Even the walk out after such a filling meal was so pretty, I'm losing it.. I recommend Anok, a great Hongdae spot for gomtang and Pyongyang naengmyeon, whether you're eating with friends, having lunch alone, or treating someone! I think I'd come back with my mom if we're ever in the area.. If you like spicy food, try the braised pork tails too! Next time, I want to try the shredded-potato pancake and grilled deodeok..🤍
