## Hanok-inspired lamb dining in a Mullae Station alley

Today, I’m introducing a premium lamb dining spot that is perfect when you are looking for a special anniversary meal or an atmospheric date venue. Skilled staff grill top-quality lamb with a subtle charcoal aroma and no gaminess, so you can focus entirely on the meal. This is my visit to Yangnam Yanghwa, a calm, refined space tucked into one of Mullae-dong’s characterful alleys.

From Exit 3 of Mullae Station on Line 2, cross the road and walk into the alley toward the Korea Electric Power Corporation front gate and the Kyobo Life rear gate to find the restaurant. Its straw-thatched eaves, red brick, and warm wooden entrance create the cozy feeling of discovering a hidden hanok annex in the middle of the city. The mood is wonderfully atmospheric from the entrance, putting you in a good mood before the meal even begins.

## Bar tables and a private-feeling interior

> Neat bar-table seating and an elegant, private interior

Inside, bar tables take center stage beneath traditional exposed rafters and softly glowing brass exhaust hoods. Wooden hangers and indirect lighting are installed along the wall so you can store your clothes without creasing them—a thoughtful touch. The tables are comfortably spaced and divided by partitions, making it easy to focus on conversation; it works just as well for a date as for a business meeting or small gathering.

## Table settings and sauces

Once seated, each person receives an individually plated setting on a neat placemat. The side dishes include refreshing baekgimchi (white kimchi), pickled stem lettuce, and a spicy Cheongyang chili soy sauce. Maldon salt, cumin seasoning, a deeply savory mayo sauce, fresh wasabi, and house basil pesto are also laid out, offering plenty of ways to bring out the meat’s natural flavor.

## A premium lamb dining course from T-bone to tenderloin

> Premium lamb dining with impressively high-quality meat

Glowing premium binchotan charcoal was placed in the brazier, and the premium lamb dining course we ordered (₩38,900) arrived. It includes T-bone sirloin, shoulder ribs, and T-bone tenderloin. Just looking at the vivid red color, fine marbling, and generous thickness of the cuts, you could tell how fresh they were. A mushroom carefully wrapped in foil was also placed on the grill to cook gently alongside the meat.

It was so comfortable not having to deal with grilling ourselves: the skilled staff cooked each cut directly to its ideal doneness. As the lamb absorbed the charcoal aroma over the brazier, it developed a crisp exterior while staying moist inside. The first T-bone sirloin was juicy with a satisfying chew. I lightly dipped the first piece in cumin seasoning, and there was absolutely none of that characteristic lamb smell—just a rich meaty aroma filling my mouth. I could immediately see why this place has the polish of a great lamb-rib specialist in Yeongdeungpo.

Next, I tried a bite topped with fragrant basil sauce, and the rich, fatty savoriness and fresh herbal aroma struck an amazing balance. Adding a crisp, spicy piece of Cheongyang chili to a well-grilled bite cleared the finish so beautifully that I simply could not stop reaching for more.

### Shoulder ribs, T-bone tenderloin, and grilled vegetables

> The harmony of juicy shoulder ribs and tender T-bone tenderloin

The shoulder ribs and T-bone tenderloin that followed offered a different kind of appeal. With a good balance of lean meat and fat, the shoulder ribs burst with nutty juices with every bite, while the T-bone tenderloin had such a delicate grain that it seemed to melt away in the mouth. The king oyster mushroom, roasted in foil until full of its own juices, made the meat’s savory depth stand out even more.

As the meal moved toward its final stretch, they carefully grilled a whole onion, large pieces of eggplant, and even the rib meat still attached to the bone. The sweet, juicy grilled vegetables cut through the richness, while the rib meat eaten straight from the bone concentrated a springy texture and deep charcoal flavor for a perfect finish. It was a Yeongdeungpo lamb-rib course that I finished completely satisfied, thanks to excellent meat and attentive grilling service.

## Final thoughts on Yangnam Yanghwa

Thanks to the freshness of the meat and the staff’s careful grilling, this is a place where you can fully experience the appeal of proper lamb dining. From the nutty T-bone sirloin to the juicy shoulder ribs and soft tenderloin, the progression of the course was perfect, and the well-composed sauces meant there was no chance to tire of it before the final bite. With its tranquil hanok-inspired atmosphere and comfortable bar-table seating, this is a spot I would strongly recommend to anyone looking for a standout lamb-rib restaurant in Yeongdeungpo.
