## In short

Doseogwan Dwitjip is an old-style Chinese restaurant behind Cheongdeok Library in Giheung-gu, Yongin, Gyeonggi. Visiting with a 29-month-old, the writer ordered a spicy jjajang (black bean noodle) and tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork) single set, a fried rice and tangsuyuk single set, and the 4,000-won kids' jjajang, whose portion was generous enough for an early elementary schooler, while the fried rice set also came with noodles. The seasoning at Doseogwan Dwitjip is not overly salty, making it an easy Chinese restaurant for eating out with a child.

## Inside Doseogwan Dwitjip: the room and the self-serve bar

The interior of Doseogwan Dwitjip was really clean and tidy. Fitting with the name, there were lots of books placed around the restaurant~

## Menu, what you can't take out, and the review freebie

Here's the menu. Weekday lunch takeout isn't available, and the hot plate fried jjajang, kids' jjajang, and single-person sets can't be taken out at all!

![Sign listing menu items unavailable for takeout](https://img.superchart.com/images/dosogwan-dwitjip-yongin-kids-jjajang/dosogwan-dwitjip-yongin-kids-jjajang-13-de1t3-m-900.webp)

Leave a Naver review and get fried dumplings or a drink on the house! And military, police, and firefighters get double portions 👍 A restaurant that looks out for the people who serve our country is exactly the kind of good-hearted place I want to visit again, ㅠㅠ

Our chaotic little household's order arrived.

- Spicy jjajang + sweet and sour pork set
- Fried rice + sweet and sour pork set
- Kids' jjajang

![Plate of glutinous rice sweet and sour pork from the single-person set](https://img.superchart.com/images/dosogwan-dwitjip-yongin-kids-jjajang/dosogwan-dwitjip-yongin-kids-jjajang-16-5rzoh-900.webp)

## What is the tangsuyuk in the single sets like?

The sweet and sour pork that came with the sets at Doseogwan Dwitjip was just the right amount to pair with the jjajang or fried rice — felt exactly like a side dish, which I liked! And what matters most with sweet and sour pork is the ratio of batter to meat — this wasn't all thick batter, it had a nice balance so you could actually taste the meat. Super chewy glutinous rice batter, exactly my type 💚

The sauce wasn't overly sweet or intense either — just enough not to compete with the jjajang and fried rice, which made it easy to eat together.

![Cross-section of sweet and sour pork with sauce](https://img.superchart.com/images/dosogwan-dwitjip-yongin-kids-jjajang/dosogwan-dwitjip-yongin-kids-jjajang-17-ea67i-900.webp)

## How spicy is the spicy jjajang at Doseogwan Dwitjip?

Doseogwan Dwitjip's spicy jjajang is confidently, assertively spicy. It's a basic jjajang base loaded up with cheongyang chili peppers and chili powder, adding both heat and a tingling aroma. It's not just a spicy sauce — there's that distinctive tingling cheongyang chili flavor that makes your mouth go slightly numb the more you eat.

The sweet, rich flavor of the jjajang combined with the sharp kick of the chili powder and the clean spiciness of cheongyang chili gives it a totally different feel from regular jjajangmyeon!! The cheongyang chili really does a lot of the work here. If you find regular jjajangmyeon a bit too greasy and sweet, this spicy version might actually suit you better. Thanks to the heat, the finish felt a bit cleaner too. Though as someone who's bad with spicy food, I found it pretty spicy 😅

## How big is the 4,000-won kids' jjajang?

The menu that genuinely surprised me at Doseogwan Dwitjip was the kids' jjajang. First off, it's ₩4,000, and the portion size was shocking. "This is ₩4,000?" — that's how much food there was.

Some places give kids' menus a tiny portion, but here it was generous enough that even after my kid ate, there was still some left over!! It's a portion size that an early elementary schooler could handle. Best of all, the seasoning wasn't overly strong across the board, which made it great to bring a kid to. Our little one was slurping down the kids' jjajang the whole time 😋

## House-made noodles and Chinese food that sits light

A defining feature of Doseogwan Dwitjip! They make their own noodle dough without adding hardening agents to keep the noodles from getting mushy, so you get a soft texture and Chinese food that's gentle on the stomach.

After eating, I noticed I didn't have that heavy, bloated feeling you usually get after Chinese food — my stomach was noticeably more comfortable.

## The best dish: old-school fried rice

The tastiest thing I ate was actually the fried rice. These days, Chinese restaurant fried rice often isn't fluffy enough, doesn't have much filling in it, and just comes with a jjajang sauce poured over it. But Doseogwan Dwitjip's fried rice brought back the old-school Chinese restaurant fried rice I ate as a kid 🥲🥲 That taste of nostalgia...

Every single grain of rice was fried up light and fluffy, with ham, egg, and vegetables mixed in — basic, done right. And the flavor itself was clean and mild, which made it even better!! The moment I saw it, and the moment I took a bite, I thought, "this is exactly what fried rice used to taste like," and it just brought back memories, ㅠ haha.

Rather than leaning on smoky char or heavy seasoning, it leaned into the natural savoriness of the rice itself and the flavor of frying it well — personally, I really loved that approach. And the jjamppong broth, made without water using only stock and aged at low temperature for over 12 hours, gave everything real depth of flavor.

![Fluffy old-style fried rice](https://img.superchart.com/images/dosogwan-dwitjip-yongin-kids-jjajang/dosogwan-dwitjip-yongin-kids-jjajang-23-7u11a-966.webp)

### The fried rice set comes with noodles too

But that's not all! I ordered fried rice, and noodles came along with it?!? Eat some fried rice, then some noodles, then back to the rice~ getting both rice and noodles in one meal! 😂

Eating fried rice made me want jjajangmyeon, and eating jjajangmyeon made me want fried rice again — an endless loop. This felt like a restaurant that truly understands what customers want. If you're someone who enjoys the fun of dipping a bit of noodle into the jjajang sauce when you order fried rice at a Chinese restaurant, you'll be very satisfied here ^3^

![Milk coffee served after the meal](https://img.superchart.com/images/dosogwan-dwitjip-yongin-kids-jjajang/dosogwan-dwitjip-yongin-kids-jjajang-24-uvvoh-900.webp)

## Why Doseogwan Dwitjip works with a toddler

Finished off with a milk coffee for dessert. Overall, this Yongin favorite, Doseogwan Dwitjip, felt closer to old-school Chinese restaurant cooking that sticks to the basics, rather than the flashy, intense style that's trendy these days.

What I personally liked was that none of the dishes felt overly heavy. Chinese food can easily end up greasy, salty, or sweet, but everything we ate that day wasn't over-seasoned, so we could actually taste the food itself. Especially when dining with a kid, it's stressful when both the adult food and kid food are too strongly seasoned — but here, the kids' jjajang was made separately and the portion was generous, which was really satisfying.

I heard that Doseogwan Dwitjip's old-style jjajang uses less water and doesn't rely on seasoning or sugar for flavor. They draw out the natural sweetness of onions to the max, letting it blend with the chunjang for that authentic old-school jjajang flavor. Knowing that made me feel more at ease giving it to our little one. If you're looking for a Chinese restaurant to visit with family, I highly recommend Doseogwan Dwitjip!!
