I stopped by Jeong Ji-young Coffee Roasters, Lotte Department Store Nowon (정지영커피로스터즈 롯데백화점 노원점) because I wanted a distinctive coffee while visiting Lotte Department Store Nowon. Rather than my usual Americano or latte, I was craving something different, and the coconut coffee on the menu caught my eye.

To give you the conclusion first, it was far more delicious than I expected! When you hear coconut coffee, it is easy to imagine an overly sweet, dessert-like drink, but the coconut coffee I tried was not intensely sweet at all, which I really loved.

## The newly renovated B1 at Lotte Department Store Nowon

Did you know that Lotte Department Store Nowon has just reopened after a renovation? I could tell during my visit that the atmosphere is definitely cleaner and more polished than before.

The renovated space felt bright and modern overall. It no longer felt like a department store just for shopping, but more like a place where you can spend time over a meal or take a break at a café. There are plenty of well-prepared places to rest, too, so it is nice for a quick break while shopping. But then, Jeong Ji-young Coffee Roasters, one of Suwon's most famous cafés, has opened here!!

## What kind of drink was the coconut coffee?

It was clearly different from a sweet coffee made simply with coconut syrup. I heard this coconut coffee is a patented menu item that has sold a cumulative 1.11 million cups. Creamy espresso is made by shaking espresso and ice, then poured right into sweet coconut milk.

They also sell coffee beans, instant coffee, and merchandise such as hats and T-shirts, so it was fun to browse while waiting for my drink.

## Moderate sweetness and creamy espresso

Soon, Udangtang Home's coconut coffee arrived. It felt a little different from a typical coconut latte. Creamy espresso made by shaking espresso and ice sits on top, with coconut milk as the base. As expected, the combination worked so well.

The shaken espresso felt much smoother and creamier than simply drinking strong coffee, which was impressive. The coffee's bitter, deep flavor remained present, while the coconut milk added a subtly sweet, nutty note.

What I liked most was that the sweetness was not excessive! It definitely had the characteristic sweetness of a coconut drink, but it was not so sweet that it became cloying as I drank it. Instead, the coffee's bitterness and the coconut's smooth, nutty flavor were nicely balanced, so I kept drinking it. At first I thought, “It is coconut coffee, so it will be sweet, right?” But it was much cleaner than expected.

### A different flavor when mixed well

And when you mix the creamy espresso on top well with the coconut milk underneath, the flavor changes again. At first, the coffee's deep flavor comes through, then the coconut's smooth, subtle sweetness follows. The staff member also told me to stir it well after making the drink.

The more I drank, the more I felt it had a character a little different from the coconut lattes commonly found at other cafés.

When I go to a café, unless I really want a sweet drink, I am the type who always orders an Americano. Jeong Ji-young Coffee Roasters' coconut coffee was a great choice. I think it would suit you especially well if you do not like overly sweet coffee but enjoy coconut's nutty, smooth flavor.

Thanks to the shaken espresso cream, I could properly taste the smooth coffee, while the coconut milk supported it softly, so it did not feel heavy like a dessert. Personally, I think it would taste even better in summer. With its cool, creamy texture and coconut's distinctive tropical flavor, it was great for a change of pace instead of ordinary iced coffee.

If you want a distinctive coffee at Lotte Department Store Nowon, I recommend Jeong Ji-young Coffee Roasters' coconut coffee! Coconut milk joins creamy coffee made by shaking espresso and ice, giving it a charm clearly different from a typical coconut latte. I liked that it was not too sweet, and the coffee's deep flavor blended beautifully with the coconut's smooth, nutty taste.

On a day when you want something a little different from an ordinary Americano, if you are visiting Lotte Department Store Nowon, I would say this is a menu item worth trying at least once~ Even on my next visit, I think I would order this coconut coffee again before anything else 😋
