I went to Jeju this time for a wedding snap photoshoot! I'd been up and moving since dawn, so the moment I landed on Jeju my stomach was growling... While I was trying to decide what to eat for breakfast-slash-lunch, I just headed straight for Aewol. You can't come to Jeju without eating gogi-guksu (pork noodle soup), right?! A local Jeju friend had recommended a great pork noodle spot in Aewol, so I ran straight to Handam Guksu💨

Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch (한담국수 곽지애월점) is at 33 Aewol-ro, Aewol-eup, Jeju-si, Jeju-do, South Korea, 1st floor, and it's open from 10am to 8:50pm. Break time is 16:00–17:30, last order is 19:50, and on Mondays it only runs until 16:20. There's a dedicated parking lot in front of the building.

This pork noodle spot sits right at the entrance to the Aewol café street, so it's the perfect spot for a meal before browsing cafés and gift shops!!

We visited between 10:30 and 11am on a Sunday and got seated right away with no wait at all! It opens at 10am, so it's also perfect for a brunch-style breakfast-lunch while traveling~

The inside is wood-toned with generous space between tables, so the overall vibe felt clean and comfortable~

And on top of that... the view here is genuinely insane!!!! The Aewol sea stretches out through the floor-to-ceiling windows — a café-worthy view at a noodle restaurant!

The weather was great too, so the sea was completely blue. Sitting by the window eating with that view, I got drunk on the scenery once and drunk on the taste again >.<

### What's on the self-serve bar at Handam Guksu?

There's a separate self-serve bar near the entrance where you can grab kimchi, pickles, peppers, ssamjang and other basic sides, plus scissors, tongs and small plates if you need them!

Spoons and wet wipes are in the table drawer, and disposable aprons are hung on the wall~

## The self-serve kimchi wins before the noodles arrive

One of the things I judge a noodle restaurant on is whether the kimchi is good~ if the kimchi's good, the noodles usually are too, haha. This place's kimchi is seriously. so. good!! Passed!!!

You can refill from the self-serve bar too, so if you run out you can grab more without any hesitation!!

## Bone-broth pork noodle soup, 10,000 won — clean broth with bean sprouts

The bone-broth pork noodle soup at Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch is ₩10,000 — chunks of sliced pork, bean sprouts, chopped green onion and sesame seeds sit on top of a pale, milky bone broth. I tried the broth first~ it tasted much cooler and fresher, maybe because of the bean sprouts! Different from the Jeju pork noodle soup I'd had before?! Oh~ so this style exists too, I thought!!

The dombe pork on top of the noodles was pale and tender too~

You really have to eat it with kimchi on top... the kimchi is seriously insanely good...!!!

On the side of the table there's pepper, salt and gochugaru so you can season to taste~ I just sprinkled some pepper on as I ate :)

## Dongchimi bibim noodles, 10,000 won — topped with shredded lean pork

The dongchimi bibim noodles are ₩10,000, topped with shredded lean meat, bean sprouts and julienned cucumber, and it comes with a separate bowl of dongchimi broth on the side. This was my fiancé's dish~ at first I thought the meat topping was chicken lol

But apparently it's pork! It's shredded and piled on like jangjorim (soy-braised meat), so the look was completely different from what I expected — pretty interesting~

I don't usually order bibim noodles myself since they're often too salty or heavily seasoned. But here the seasoning wasn't salty at all — it was just right, so I kept eating more! The sauce itself wasn't harsh or overpowering either, which I liked~

## Dombe naengsuyuk, 15,000 won — served with wasabi and a house sauce

The dombe naengsuyuk is ₩15,000 and the meat comes neatly arranged. You get wasabi and a house-made sauce on the side to pair however you like. The slices are thin but the portion was actually pretty generous — quite filling~

For the first bite I wanted to taste the meat on its own, so I just added wasabi and the house sauce. The meat was tender and went down easily~ eating both sauces together also worked really well!!👍

Oops, I forgot the kimchi for a second, then had some with it too — yum~~ You really have to eat sliced pork with kimchi, right!?

At the end, my fiancé picked up the bowl of dongchimi broth and drank it straight, lol. Says it all, doesn't it?

On our way out we spotted a banner — write a Naver receipt photo review and you get a tasty Crunky chocolate bar too, haha. Everyone should join in and grab one~ >.<

## Is Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch worth it? Final verdict

An ocean-view noodle restaurant where you eat while looking out at the Aewol sea! The pork noodle soup topped with bean sprouts was refreshingly different~ and the kimchi is a must-refill!!

Final scores: taste ★5 | price ★5 | atmosphere ★5 | friendliness ★5.

Would I go back? It's great for breakfast, and the ocean view is flawless, so I'll definitely be back on our next Jeju trip❤
