## In short

Cheonsanga Jangeoga Hagae Branch is a charcoal-grilled eel restaurant near Hagae Station in Nowon, Seoul. The writer took her mom and sister for the 3-person set at ₩104,000, where the owner grilled everything from start to finish, served an extra bowl of doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) just for mom, and added stone-bowl sushi for ₩3,000 more. The eel was thick and large but surprisingly light, making it a satisfying, low-hassle spot for a family meal with parents.

I suggested to my mom that we go eat eel together for a little health boost, and she immediately said yes — so my sister and I took her out.

When you're eating with your parents, food matters, but so does whether parking is easy, whether the restaurant feels comfortable, and whether the staff are kind. Cheonsanga Jangeoga Hagae Branch had parking and good reviews, so that's where we went.

To cut to the chase, the meal was really satisfying. What I appreciated most was that the owner grilled the eel from start to finish himself. We didn't have to worry about the grilling at all — we could just relax and chat with mom while eating.

Cheonsanga Jangeoga Hagae Branch is on the 1st floor at 67 Hangeulbiseok-ro 1-gil, Nowon-gu, Seoul. It's about 597m from Exit 2 of Hagae Station, so it's easy to reach by public transit too.

It's open daily from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., with last order at 9:10 p.m. That makes it convenient for both lunch and dinner if you're looking for a family meal spot.

There's parking right in front of the restaurant, which made it convenient to drive there. Parking matters more than you'd think when you're dining with your parents, and I liked that we didn't have to walk far.

The restaurant can seat up to 60 people and takes group reservations, so it seems like a good option for family gatherings or larger get-togethers too.

## A family meal with mom and my sister

The three of us — my mom, my sister, and I — went together. When eating with my parents, I usually prefer a place that's calm enough to talk over food rather than loud and chaotic. That day, we got to chat with mom over eel and eat at a relaxed pace, which was really nice.

Having a staff member grill the eel made things especially easy with my parents there. Eel is great to eat, but if you're grilling it yourself, conversation can get interrupted once you start focusing on the meat. Here, though, the staff grilled it from start to finish, so we could eat comfortably the whole time.

You can also ask for it to be cooked to your preferred doneness, so if you like your eel well done and crispy, that's an option too.

## The 3-person set for ₩104,000

We ordered the 3-person set for ₩104,000. It came with grilled eel, doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew), and deodeok-muchim (seasoned mountain herb salad), among other side dishes.

Seeing the eel up close, it was quite large and thick. What I really liked was that it was lighter than expected. Usually with a whole eel, the richness can start to feel like too much partway through.

But this eel, despite being big and thick, wasn't overly greasy. So even though the portion looked large at first, we managed to enjoy it all the way to the end. It had that signature nutty eel flavor without being too heavy, which made it easy to share as a family.

They use domestic freshwater eel and grill it over charcoal, so it's worth checking out if you're a fan of grilled eel.

## An extra bowl of doenjang jjigae, just for mom

![Doenjang jjigae included in the set](https://img.superchart.com/images/cheonsangae-jangeo-hagye-family-dinner/cheonsangae-jangeo-hagye-family-dinner-11-r8w1m-966.webp)

![Extra individual doenjang jjigae served](https://img.superchart.com/images/cheonsangae-jangeo-hagye-family-dinner/cheonsangae-jangeo-hagye-family-dinner-12-18raf-966.webp)

What stood out most that day was the owner's thoughtfulness. The set came with one doenjang jjigae, but noticing that mom was sitting a bit farther away, he brought out a separate bowl just for her.

It's the kind of small gesture you could easily overlook. But seeing him notice exactly where each person was sitting and take care of it himself felt genuinely thoughtful and kind. As someone who brought her mom along, that little bit of care meant a lot to me.

With the owner continuing to grill the eel throughout the meal, all we had to do was enjoy it. Mom seemed relaxed and comfortable too, which put my mind at ease.

## Deodeok-muchim, stone-bowl sushi, and green onion kimchi on the side

![Deodeok-muchim served alongside the eel](https://img.superchart.com/images/cheonsangae-jangeo-hagye-family-dinner/cheonsangae-jangeo-hagye-family-dinner-13-18iyi-966.webp)

The deodeok-muchim that came with the eel paired well with it. When you're eating eel for a while, it's nice to have something lighter alongside it. Alternating between the eel and the side dish kept things from feeling repetitive all the way to the end.

Stone-bowl sushi came included with the set, and it went so well with the eel that we added an extra order for ₩3,000. If you like enjoying eel sushi-style, it's worth ordering.

We wrapped it in lettuce, ate it with green onion kimchi, and tried it every way we could think of, right to the end.

![Warm nurungji served to finish the meal](https://img.superchart.com/images/cheonsangae-jangeo-hagye-family-dinner/cheonsangae-jangeo-hagye-family-dinner-18-ewvik-966.webp)

To finish the meal, they served warm nurungji (scorched rice soup), which made for a hearty, satisfying end.

Basic side dishes included pickled onions and green onion kimchi, and there's a self-serve bar too, so we could easily grab more of whatever we wanted. They run weekday lunch specials and offer takeout, so it's worth keeping in mind for a lunch outing or eating eel at home.

They also sell eel extract, and I really wanted to buy some for my mom. My parents already have black goat extract at home though, so I held off this time, haha.

This visit to Cheonsanga Jangeoga Hagae Branch with my mom and sister was a satisfying family meal. Above all, the eel was thick and large yet light, and having the staff grill it from start to finish made everything so easy.

If you're looking for a place to take your parents for a health-boosting meal like we were, a spot with this kind of service is genuinely convenient. And the small gesture of bringing mom her own bowl of doenjang jjigae is something I'll remember for a while.

With a family meal, the food matters, but what matters most is that everyone eats comfortably and leaves in a good mood. Watching my mom enjoy the eel that day made me feel really glad we went.

If you're looking for an eel restaurant in Hagae-dong, Nowon, or a family dining spot near Hagae Station, Cheonsanga Jangeoga Hagae Branch is worth considering — especially for meals with parents, family gatherings, or a health-boosting dish.

If grilling eel yourself has always felt like a hassle, having staff do it from start to finish will definitely feel like a relief. For me, finding an eel restaurant near my parents' place where mom could eat comfortably made this a really satisfying visit.
