After checking out a preview at Seoul Auction in Apgujeong in the afternoon, I met up with a friend for dinner and headed to Arigyegok, a Gangnam Station favorite. Finding a table for a dinner plan near Gangnam Station can be tough since every restaurant tends to be packed. Arigyegok's tables weren't cramped, and there were seats that could fit larger groups, so it seemed well suited for anyone looking for a Gangnam Station meeting spot. Crunchy cucumber with nutty black sesame and a touch of spicy chili oil went really well between bites of the mud duck jeonbyeong or potato pancake. It looked great, and the portion was bigger than expected, working fine as a meal and not just a drinking snack. Since it's served as jeonbyeong (a thin crepe wrap), you wrap the duck with cabbage and fried dumpling wrappers to eat. Eating the duck with the cabbage and crispy dumpling wrapper gave a much more varied texture than eating the duck alone. The outside was fried crisp, but the inside still had that soft, mashed-potato texture. Topped with cheese, it was savory and filling, pairing well as a makgeolli snack. So we finished with aged kimchi fried rice (₩6,900). From the mud duck jeonbyeong to the black sesame cucumber salad, cheese potato pancake, and aged kimchi fried rice — all four dishes came in generous portions, good for ordering and sharing with a group. The mud duck jeonbyeong especially is the signature dish worth trying on a first visit to Arigyegok, and the black sesame cucumber salad, which I hadn't expected much from, was also satisfying. If you're looking to handle both a meal and drinks in one spot near Gangnam Station, or want a Gangnam Station bar where you can gather with friends comfortably, put Arigyegok on your list.
