## In short

Jojo Mullae Branch is a Japanese teppanyaki restaurant near Mullae Station in Yeongdeungpo, Seoul, cooking okonomiyaki, monjayaki and yakisoba on individual tabletop griddles. Visiting on a weekday at 4pm, the writer ordered the 2-person monjayaki set for ₩39,500 (mentaiko monjayaki, karai yakisoba, waterfall potato), and the mentaiko monjayaki was fun to eat scraping up the cheese- and mochi-topped crispy bits stuck to the griddle. Watching the cooking happen right at the table made it a solid pick for a Mullae-dong date dinner too.

> A different kind of monjayaki, found in Mullae
> Jojo Mullae Branch

There are so many great restaurants popping up around Mullae these days haha. I was looking for somewhere to eat after wandering around Mullae Art Village when I found Jojo Mullae Branch. It specializes in Japanese-style teppanyaki, and apparently you can get all kinds of griddle dishes here — okonomiyaki, monjayaki, yakisoba, donpeyaki, and more.

This place is known as the restaurant of the chef from Black and White Chef Season 2's "Teppan Captain," which made me even more curious to check it out. This was actually my first time trying mentaiko monjayaki, so I went in wondering what it would taste like — here's how my visit to Jojo Mullae Branch went :)

## Getting there from Mullae Station, and what about waiting and reservations?

Jojo Mullae Branch is located near Mullae Station, so it's an easy stop if you're already looking for somewhere to eat around Mullae Art Village. There's no break time, so it's open from lunch through dinner. Reservations are possible on weekdays, but weekend slots are apparently a bit limited. It's a place that always has a wait around mealtimes, so I'd recommend avoiding peak hours if you can. We went around 4pm on a weekday, and by the time we left, there was already a big line.

It's a great spot if you're hunting for a Mullae lunch spot like we were, but it also has menu items that pair well with a drink in the evening, so it could suit anyone looking for a restaurant-bar near Mullae Station too. Honestly, every dish here goes well with beer haha.

If you're driving, you can use the Mullae Neighborhood Park public parking lot, but honestly, it's pretty rough there. I'd really recommend public transit instead.

## What's in the ₩39,500 2-person monjayaki set

What we ordered that day was the 2-person monjayaki set for ₩39,500. It came with mentaiko monjayaki, karai yakisoba, and waterfall potato. We picked this set so the two of us could try a bit of everything.

### Mentaiko monjayaki — what exactly is monjayaki?

The dish I was most looking forward to that day was the mentaiko monjayaki! This was actually my first time eating monjayaki. If you're like me and have only heard the name and wondered what on earth monjayaki actually is — it's a type of Japanese teppanyaki dish, and its defining feature is a batter that's much runnier than okonomiyaki's.

![Runny batter, the signature feature of monjayaki ingredients](https://img.superchart.com/images/jojo-mullae-monjayaki-set-teppan/jojo-mullae-monjayaki-set-teppan-07-cu2v2-900.webp)

Finely chopped cabbage and flour batter get cooked on the griddle, and then you scrape up the crispy bits stuck to the surface little by little. At first, a staff member cooks it right at the table, and watching the ingredients sizzle away was fun in itself. They cooked the chopped cabbage and batter on the griddle, and at the end, topped it with mozzarella cheese and mochi.

The salty, savory kick of the mentaiko combined with the richness of the cheese and the chewy texture of the mochi worked better than I expected. And unlike okonomiyaki, which you cut and eat, this is a dish where you scrape up the crispy bits stuck to the griddle bit by bit, which made it genuinely fun to eat. Make sure you let it crisp up before eating!! The crispy part is way tastier.

If you've never tried monjayaki before, like me, it's worth experiencing at least once. It's especially good if you're at a Mullae lunch spot and want something a little different from your usual order.

### How spicy is the karai yakisoba, really?

Next up, the karai yakisoba! The savory umami typical of yakisoba came with a spicy kick added in, so it was tasty without being heavy or greasy. That said, by Korean standards, it's really not that spicy lol. This isn't a Korean-style adaptation — it tastes like genuine Japanese-style yakisoba, with a fairly bold sauce flavor. The toppings were generous too — shrimp, squid, pork belly, thin-sliced meat, and more.

### Side dish: waterfall potato

We also had the waterfall potato that came as a side. It's potato salad topped with a soft-boiled egg, and it balanced out the bold flavor of the yakisoba sauce really nicely.

Having a side dish alongside the mains made the meal feel much more varied than just ordering the main dishes for two — it was great being able to enjoy a range of flavors. And the portion was plenty for two people to share.

## Space and atmosphere — an individual griddle at every table

The first thing that caught my eye walking into Jojo Mullae Branch was the brick-style interior. It fits Mullae's distinctive vibe really well!

I also liked that the tables were spaced out more than I expected. Restaurants in Mullae tend to be on the smaller side, with tables packed close together, but Jojo Mullae Branch has more breathing room than I anticipated, so we could eat comfortably without worrying about the table next to us.

Best of all, every table has its own individual griddle! Staff cook the food right at your table, so you get to watch the whole process happen in front of you. Watching the ingredients sizzle away on the griddle while you eat is genuinely entertaining on its own. That's why I thought this place could also work well as a Mullae-dong date spot — watching the cooking together is part of the fun, lol.

In the evening, dishes like okonomiyaki, yakisoba, and monjayaki also seem great for a light drink, so I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a restaurant-bar near Mullae Station too. You could visit for a proper meal at lunch, then come back in the evening for teppanyaki with a drink — a place you can enjoy differently depending on the time of day haha. There were even a few tables of guys day-drinking, which I didn't expect lol.

## Final thoughts

What stuck with me most from this visit to Jojo Mullae Branch was definitely the monjayaki, which I was trying for the first time. I'd only ever had okonomiyaki or yakisoba before, so monjayaki felt like a genuinely different dish, and watching it cook right on the griddle in front of us added to the fun. It was salty, savory, and chewy all at once — I really enjoyed it even as a first-timer.

This place seems like a solid choice whether you're looking for a Mullae lunch spot, want a different kind of date menu, are searching for a Mullae-dong date spot, or want a restaurant-bar near Mullae Station. If you're planning to check out Mullae Art Village and haven't tried monjayaki yet, like me, I'd recommend giving it a shot!
