## In short

Deok Ori Jumulleok Ganghwa Main Branch is a duck stir-fry restaurant on Mani-san Road in Ganghwa, Incheon. On a weekend at 1pm there was no wait for a samchae duck stir-fry at ₩22,000, plus naengmyeon (cold noodles) at ₩7,000 and fried rice at ₩3,000, with the owner grilling the duck first over charcoal outside the restaurant. The duck was tender with no gamey smell, and the samchae (three-flavor herb) cut through the richness, making the noodle and fried rice add-ons well worth it.

There was one restaurant I'd scoped out ahead of a weekend trip to Ganghwa Island... Deok Ori Jumulleok Ganghwa Main Branch, famous enough for its duck that word has really gotten around!! I already love duck dishes so my expectations were high, and to cut to the chase — it was even more satisfying than expected~

## Up the hill on Mani-san Road, finding Deok Ori Jumulleok

The weather was so nice we went for a drive and ended up looking for Deok Ori Jumulleok for lunch. The restaurant is off the main road, up a hill!! It's a pretty steep hill, so keep that in mind

![Exterior of Deok Ori Jumulleok Ganghwa Main Branch on a hill](https://img.superchart.com/images/ganghwa-manisan-duck-jumulleok-naengmyeon/ganghwa-manisan-duck-jumulleok-naengmyeon-01-1b0sd-900.webp)

They're open from 11am to 9pm and closed on Mondays, so double-check the hours before you go!! We went around 1pm on a weekend and got seated right away with no wait

## Menu and side dishes

The menu is simple — mostly stir-fry varieties, but there are also side dishes like potato pancake and chicken gizzards?!

Apparently they were even featured on a TV food show as a famous duck restaurant back in the day!

The basic side dishes are just the essentials, nothing fancy. That candied sweet potato was seriously delicious hahaha, tasted like something from middle school lunches...ha ha

They'll give you more side dishes if you ask, and there was also a self-serve bar for radish pickle and dongchimi. Radish pickle with meat is just love~

## What we ordered

- Samchae duck stir-fry ₩22,000
- Naengmyeon (cold noodles) ₩7,000
- Fried rice ₩3,000

## Charcoal pre-grilling outside — can you watch?

The owner grilled the duck over charcoal outside the restaurant himself, so the smoky char scent reached us even from inside

I asked if I could watch from the side, and he smiled and happily said yes haha. That charcoal smell was seriously mouth-watering...

Watching the process is part of the fun too — makes lunch at Deok Ori Jumulleok in Ganghwa even better!?

## Samchae duck stir-fry

![Samchae duck stir-fry on the grill](https://img.superchart.com/images/ganghwa-manisan-duck-jumulleok-naengmyeon/ganghwa-manisan-duck-jumulleok-naengmyeon-09-1hiwt-900.webp)

The duck at Deok Ori Jumulleok Ganghwa Main Branch had absolutely no gamey smell and the meat was tender. The seasoning wasn't overpowering but had a savory depth that soaked well into the meat and vegetables, so I kept reaching for more...

![Duck and vegetables soaked in sauce](https://img.superchart.com/images/ganghwa-manisan-duck-jumulleok-naengmyeon/ganghwa-manisan-duck-jumulleok-naengmyeon-10-bmau3-900.webp)

As the meat cooked, the sauce's aroma mixed with samchae's distinctive bitter-yet-nutty scent rose up...!

So this is samchae...? That bittersweet, slightly pungent taste was oddly addictive haha

![Close-up of bitter-tasting samchae](https://img.superchart.com/images/ganghwa-manisan-duck-jumulleok-naengmyeon/ganghwa-manisan-duck-jumulleok-naengmyeon-12-y94mk-900.webp)

You can wrap it in perilla leaves or radish pickle, so there are lots of ways to enjoy it haha

![A bite of duck stir-fry wrapped in perilla leaf](https://img.superchart.com/images/ganghwa-manisan-duck-jumulleok-naengmyeon/ganghwa-manisan-duck-jumulleok-naengmyeon-13-8karr-900.webp)

![Duck and samchae piled on radish pickle](https://img.superchart.com/images/ganghwa-manisan-duck-jumulleok-naengmyeon/ganghwa-manisan-duck-jumulleok-naengmyeon-14-k11e5-900.webp)

The crunchy texture of the samchae especially cut right through the richness of the duck, so I could eat down to the very last piece without getting tired of it!!!

![The last bits of duck stir-fry left on the grill](https://img.superchart.com/images/ganghwa-manisan-duck-jumulleok-naengmyeon/ganghwa-manisan-duck-jumulleok-naengmyeon-15-bowj9-900.webp)

Wrapped in lettuce with a big piece of garlic, the flavor filled my whole mouth — even full, I kept eating...

## Naengmyeon

![A bowl of naengmyeon with slush ice broth](https://img.superchart.com/images/ganghwa-manisan-duck-jumulleok-naengmyeon/ganghwa-manisan-duck-jumulleok-naengmyeon-16-sn7dg-900.webp)

To cleanse the palate we ordered naengmyeon. The cool broth with floating slush ice felt like it neatly reset my mouth after all that richness

![Lifting a chewy strand of naengmyeon noodles](https://img.superchart.com/images/ganghwa-manisan-duck-jumulleok-naengmyeon/ganghwa-manisan-duck-jumulleok-naengmyeon-17-1w4gt-900.webp)

The noodles were chewy and the broth had great depth — eaten together with the duck stir-fry it was a surprisingly delicious new combo haha. The naengmyeon broth was so good that personally, ordering it is a must!!

## When's the best time to order the fried rice?

![Fried rice stir-fried with leftover sauce](https://img.superchart.com/images/ganghwa-manisan-duck-jumulleok-naengmyeon/ganghwa-manisan-duck-jumulleok-naengmyeon-18-1rckk-900.webp)

Once we'd eaten most of the meat, how could we skip fried rice with sauce like this? So we went ahead and added fried rice haha. The staff kindly told us it tastes best if you order it and mix it in when about a third of the meat is left

They finely chopped the leftover sauce and vegetables and stir-fried them with the rice, and with dried seaweed flakes and fragrant sesame oil added, I kept eating even though I was full.... (what is happening to my stomach) They said it's even better if you let it sit a bit like scorched rice, so we left it on the grill until it got a little crispy and scraped up every last bit stuck to the bottom... (can't resist carbs~~~)

## Final thoughts

Overall the food quality was high and the portions generous, so it didn't feel like money wasted. The staff were also so friendly that it made for a pleasant meal haha. If you're traveling or driving around Ganghwa Island and looking for a good meal, I highly recommend Deok Ori Jumulleok Ganghwa Main Branch!! You get to nourish your body and enjoy delicious duck dishes, so next time I'm thinking of bringing my parents!!

The weather was so nice we snapped a photo~~~ After living cooped up in the city, a view that opens up your chest like this made the weekend fly by~~~ (after this we went to Peace Observatory hahaha)
