These days when I'm figuring out what to eat for lunch, I keep ending up at the same old spots haha. Wanting something a bit different for Sunday lunch, I headed to Sindaebakjip near Gwangmyeong Sageori Station, close to home. Went with my partner for a lunch date, and bottom line — the giant cast-iron lid pot of dakbokkeumtang (spicy braised chicken stew) is both a visual and a taste worth recommending as a Gwangmyeong Sageori Station favorite~~

We went at noon on Sunday, and lo and behold there were 4 parties waiting, so we waited 30 minutes... Guess word's already gotten around that this is a local favorite. A place near home that's worth waiting for?!

The interior isn't very spacious so people are packed in pretty tight, which felt a bit stuffy, but if the basic side dishes run low you could use the self-serve bar!

What we ordered on our visit was the cast-iron chicken stew for two, ₩16,000 per person. The place was full, so I peeked at what other tables were having — looked like most people were adding fish cake to the aged-kimchi chicken stew?!

Once the order came out, the first thing that caught my eye was, of course, the cast-iron lid. Unlike chicken stew served in a regular pot, this one gets cooked right on top of a giant cast-iron lid, so there's fun just in watching it.

When the food first arrived the portion looked pretty generous, so I thought, "can the two of us really finish all this?" — but once it started bubbling, my chopsticks kept reaching in anyway~~

Along with the chicken there were potatoes and vegetables, which went great with the broth, and it was slightly spicy and sweet — total lunch home run. 🌶️ The flavor wasn't so much sharp heat as a rice-craving kind of taste?! The broth was tangy-spicy while also carrying the flavor from the chicken and vegetables melding together. Personally, chicken stews that are just plain spicy tend to get tiresome fast, but this cast-iron version never did.

The portion was plenty for two of us at lunch, and it was also a nice pace for chatting slowly while eating.

Can't skip the carbs, right. Sindaebakjip's fried rice is technically self-serve, but a staff member kindly fries it for you~~ Pressed down until crispy at the bottom, it was delicious. But I got way too full lolllll

## Is Sindaebakjip good for family meals and group get-togethers?

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Personally, I actually thought this menu suits family meals or larger group gatherings even better. One chicken stew in the middle that a whole group can share, and since the cast-iron lid itself is so big, there's fun in eating it together as a crowd~~ Actually, the table next to us was a group of older women dining together. Wonder what kind of gathering that was?! I think this would also be an easy pick when eating with friends or having a weekend family meal.

## Final verdict on Sindaebakjip near Gwangmyeong Sageori Station

💰 If you're near Gwangmyeong Sageori Station and tired of the usual samgyeopsal or stew options for lunch, I think this place is worth a visit for something different!! I came for a lunch date with my partner this time, but next time I think it'd be great to come with a bigger group of family. If you're looking for chicken stew or a family dining spot near Gwangmyeong Sageori Station, Sindaebakjip is worth checking out.
