## In short

Gyuen Dang Seongsu Main Branch is a Japanese restaurant on the second floor of a building on Yeonmujang 7-ga-gil, a short walk from Exits 3 and 4 of Seongsu Station in Seongdong, Seoul. Booked through Naver, the meal was tenderloin gyukatsu (beef cutlet) at 24,000 won plus a tsukune (chicken meatball) rice bowl, with slices grilled 15 seconds per side on a tabletop brazier over Isigny butter. Tsukune usually comes on a skewer, so getting it as a rice bowl crowned with egg yolk made Gyuen Dang a place worth a return visit.

Today I'm introducing a Seongsu restaurant I loved! I went to a perfume-making workshop in Seongsu a while back, and while looking for a nearby restaurant I really wanted gyukatsu (Japanese-style breaded beef cutlet)! Walk out of Exit 3 or 4 of Seongsu Station and keep going straight — it's right next to Betong!! I was so moved eating it, haha... definitely a place I want to come back to! The color of the gyukatsu was killer haha! And I got to try tsukune (Japanese-style chicken meatballs), which I'd only ever had as skewers, as a rice bowl!! Anyway, let me introduce Gyuen Dang Seongsu Main Branch, where everything was delicious!

## How to find Gyuen Dang Seongsu Main Branch, and is there parking?

![Exterior of Gyuen Dang Seongsu Main Branch on the 2nd floor of the Gasit building](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyuendang-seongsu-tsukune-donburi/gyuendang-seongsu-tsukune-donburi-02-1ln5c-900.webp)

Gyuen Dang Seongsu Main Branch is on the 2nd floor above the Gasit building! You go up the outdoor stairs next to it to reach the 2nd floor.
Unfortunately parking isn't available, so keep that in mind!

![Reserved seating area inside Gyuen Dang Seongsu Main Branch, crowded with guests](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyuendang-seongsu-tsukune-donburi/gyuendang-seongsu-tsukune-donburi-03-1cn9f-900.webp)

I only photographed the reserved seating area... because the place was absolutely packed!! It's popular enough as a Seongsu restaurant to have an actual waitlist (❁´◡`❁)

## Waiting at Seongsu Station: a Naver reservation gets you straight in

Oh, I made a Naver reservation before visiting, so I got seated at a reserved table!!! People outside were waiting via Catch Table, so walking straight in felt amazing haha. Everyone, definitely book ahead through Naver or Catch Table!!!!

## Gyuen Dang menu and what we ordered

Let's order! Here's the menu at Gyuen Dang Seongsu Main Branch. It's not just gyukatsu — there are rice bowls, curry, udon, omelet rice and more, giving it a real Seongsu Japanese restaurant feel! As a review event, we also got a mini okonomiyaki (Japanese savory pancake).

- Tenderloin gyukatsu x1
- Tsukune rice bowl x1

This is what we ordered! Tsukune skewers are my favorite thing at izakayas haha. So the tsukune rice bowl, full of that smoky grilled flavor, looked so good I had to order it 🎵

![Instructions explaining how to eat gyukatsu](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyuendang-seongsu-tsukune-donburi/gyuendang-seongsu-tsukune-donburi-08-zlxr0-900.webp)

## How to grill gyukatsu: 15 to 20 seconds per side

They had a clear guide for eating both gyukatsu and omelet rice!
Apparently gyukatsu tastes best when you grill each cut side for 15–20 seconds. Lightly cooked must taste better somehow haha.

![Personal tabletop grill placed at each table](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyuendang-seongsu-tsukune-donburi/gyuendang-seongsu-tsukune-donburi-09-1mp62-900.webp)

And for those like me who eat slowly and worry the fire will go out, don't worry —
ring the bell and they'll diligently relight the fire and swap the grill plate for you (❁´◡`❁)
There really is something fun about each table having its own personal grill at a gyukatsu place haha.

## Tenderloin gyukatsu at 24,000 won vs striploin at 19,000 won

Ta-da, this is the tenderloin gyukatsu! It was ₩24,000. The striploin gyukatsu was ₩19,000, but I figured the pricier one would be more tender and delicious, haha, so I went with tenderloin!! The color really was beautiful 🤗

## What does the tsukune rice bowl with egg yolk taste like?

I'd only ever had tsukune at skewer places, so seeing it as a rice bowl felt kind of novel!

![Tsukune rice bowl topped with mushrooms](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyuendang-seongsu-tsukune-donburi/gyuendang-seongsu-tsukune-donburi-12-91441-900.webp)

You just mix the well-cooked tsukune and mushrooms together!
For reference, tsukune is chicken-based!! The seasoning was so good haha.

## Isigny butter served with gyukatsu?

Gyukatsu comes with butter on the side — and whoa, it's Isigny butter!!!!
Unbelievable.
That a gyukatsu place would give you such premium butter... I was genuinely moved.

Butter and tenderloin ~ honestly, grilled well, that combination can't possibly taste bad lol.

The egg yolk gets placed on top of the tsukune rice bowl to eat together!

The smoky grilled aroma was so good hahaha. The seasoning was seriously delicious, confirmed hit restaurant.
Cooked perfectly all the way through!!!!

## The gyukatsu at last, and why the sauce is the kicker

And now, the moment we've been waiting for — the gyukatsu itself.

![Plate of gyukatsu before being placed on the grill](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyuendang-seongsu-tsukune-donburi/gyuendang-seongsu-tsukune-donburi-20-ty7gq-900.webp)

![Cross-section of gyukatsu grilled 15 seconds per side](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyuendang-seongsu-tsukune-donburi/gyuendang-seongsu-tsukune-donburi-21-1by2t-900.webp)

Put butter on the grill plate and cook each side 15 seconds and it's ready to eat right away!!
I actually like it more well-done, so I grilled mine a bit longer lol.

![A piece of gyukatsu grilled a bit longer](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyuendang-seongsu-tsukune-donburi/gyuendang-seongsu-tsukune-donburi-22-h2qkm-900.webp)

![Gyukatsu dipped in thin sauce with wasabi](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyuendang-seongsu-tsukune-donburi/gyuendang-seongsu-tsukune-donburi-23-orr2w-900.webp)

The sauce was unusually thin, but that thin sauce is the real kicker!! Eating it with the sauce, that salty-sweet combo was so satisfying ~~ Adding wasabi on top was also amazingly good!!!! Honestly every combination tasted great haha.
Seongsu has restaurants everywhere you look... but this place is genuinely one of the good ones !! It really reminded me that people don't line up here for nothing (●'◡'●) If you're craving Japanese food or meat in Seongsu, I unconditionally recommend Gyuen Dang Seongsu Main Branch!
