## In short

Pyeongando Sikdang Sinchon Branch is a 24-hour Korean soup restaurant in Seodaemun, Seoul. We had the 15,000 won sundae-guk set and pork bone hangover soup set, with chewy pyeonyuk and a lightly meaty broth standing out. Verdict: order both soups to share when dining as a pair.

Pyeongando Sikdang Sinchon Branch (평안도식당 신촌점) sits among the many, many bars near Sinchon Station. It is a restaurant specializing in sundae-guk (Korean sausage soup) and gamjatang (pork bone soup), open 24 hours a day, every day of the year. I had enjoyed a meal at another branch before, so I stopped in for dinner on a day when I had errands near Sinchon Station.

> Whether you come late at night or stop by early in the morning, we believe the soup should always be hot and deeply flavorful. At Pyeongando Sikdang Sinchon Branch, we are open 24 hours and prepare a hearty bowl of gukbap with broth carefully simmered for 24 hours.

Pyeongando Sikdang Sinchon Branch is said to be a 24-hour Korean restaurant in Sinchon with a wide range of gukbap dishes, including sundae-guk, pork bone hangover soup, gamjatang, seolleongtang (ox-bone soup), and beef head-meat gukbap.

## The restaurant atmosphere at dinner

It was quiet when we arrived, but as dinner time approached, sooo many delivery riders came in.

![Pyeongando Sikdang during the dinner rush](https://img.superchart.com/images/sinchon-pyeongando-sundaeguk-jeongsik/sinchon-pyeongando-sundaeguk-jeongsik-04-zwmq8-966.webp)

Perhaps because there is so much foot traffic around Sinchon Station, there were also plenty of customers stopping by for a meal.

There is a big TV in the dining room, making it a nice atmosphere for solo diners to eat while watching television. There were lots of solo diners that day, but really many groups of two, three, four, and more as well.

## Sundae-guk set and pork bone hangover soup set

Our choices that day were the sundae-guk set and the pork bone hangover soup set: two at ₩15,000 each, ₩30,000 total! Pyeongando Sikdang's signature dish is its Pyeongando sundae-guk, appealing for its warm broth and generous ingredients, so I recommend trying sundae-guk first on a first visit. There are options to suit your preference, such as sausage only or meat only, so order the combination you want.

![Sundae-guk and pork bone hangover soup set-meal spread](https://img.superchart.com/images/sinchon-pyeongando-sundaeguk-jeongsik/sinchon-pyeongando-sundaeguk-jeongsik-07-1pwi4-966.webp)

The basic side dishes plus the set-meal pyeonyuk spread. Kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi), kimchi, chives, onion and chili peppers, and ssamjang (savory dipping paste) came as the basic sides.

For those who absolutely need kkakdugi and kimchi with gukbap, it is nice that both are on the table. Neither was especially memorable, but both were perfectly fine alongside the soup.

The pyeonyuk and sundae included in the set.

![Pyeonyuk and glutinous-rice sundae included in the set](https://img.superchart.com/images/sinchon-pyeongando-sundaeguk-jeongsik/sinchon-pyeongando-sundaeguk-jeongsik-10-q7x89-966.webp)

The sundae was standard glutinous-rice sundae, so my dining companion happily ate it all.

It was my first time having pyeonyuk, and its wonderfully chewy, lightly sweet character was dangerously good. I vowed to get some pyeonyuk to go next time.

## Sundae-guk with milky-white broth

The sundae-guk and pork bone hangover soup arrived still vigorously bubbling. First, the sundae-guk.

![Vigorously bubbling sundae-guk and pork bone hangover soup](https://img.superchart.com/images/sinchon-pyeongando-sundaeguk-jeongsik/sinchon-pyeongando-sundaeguk-jeongsik-13-mep2f-966.webp)

Once the bubbling ttukbaegi (earthenware pot) settled down, I could see it was packed with head meat in the milky-white broth.

![Sundae-guk set at Pyeongando Sikdang Sinchon Branch](https://img.superchart.com/images/sinchon-pyeongando-sundaeguk-jeongsik/sinchon-pyeongando-sundaeguk-jeongsik-14-o9dve-966.webp)

After giving it a good stir with my spoon, I found a seriously generous amount of head meat from different cuts.

![Generous head meat in sundae-guk](https://img.superchart.com/images/sinchon-pyeongando-sundaeguk-jeongsik/sinchon-pyeongando-sundaeguk-jeongsik-15-12wfi-966.webp)

Personally, exactly my kind of style...

![Sundae-guk broth with head meat](https://img.superchart.com/images/sinchon-pyeongando-sundaeguk-jeongsik/sinchon-pyeongando-sundaeguk-jeongsik-16-1my1r-966.webp)

The broth was milky-white, and on tasting it, it seemed to get its savory depth from pure stock rather than heavily added seasoning. Ahh... the broth was good. I personally prefer broth with just a sliiight meaty aroma rather than something that is only ultra-clean, and Pyeongando Sikdang's broth was right up my alley.

![Sundae-guk broth with a subtle meaty aroma](https://img.superchart.com/images/sinchon-pyeongando-sundaeguk-jeongsik/sinchon-pyeongando-sundaeguk-jeongsik-17-150ax-966.webp)

The tender head meat too, ahh~ My husband shared lots of the head meat, nose, and tongue cuts with me, so I ate plenty.

![Tender head meat in sundae-guk](https://img.superchart.com/images/sinchon-pyeongando-sundaeguk-jeongsik/sinchon-pyeongando-sundaeguk-jeongsik-18-1wk4x-966.webp)

While it was hot, I threw in a whole bunch of chives.

![Chives added to sundae-guk](https://img.superchart.com/images/sinchon-pyeongando-sundaeguk-jeongsik/sinchon-pyeongando-sundaeguk-jeongsik-19-ccrmv-966.webp)

I like to let them wilt, then mix in rice and eat. Pyeongando Sikdang's carefully simmered broth is rich yet clean, the kind you can enjoy without feeling weighed down.

![Sundae-guk with chives and rice](https://img.superchart.com/images/sinchon-pyeongando-sundaeguk-jeongsik/sinchon-pyeongando-sundaeguk-jeongsik-20-1ke17-966.webp)

At the end, I added just a little dadegi (seasoning paste), yum~ Whenever I have hangover soup, I agonize between gukbap and pork bone hangover soup, then end up choosing the pork bone soup—but when two people visit, getting to taste the sundae-guk broth is absolutely next-level~

![Sundae-guk with dadegi seasoning paste](https://img.superchart.com/images/sinchon-pyeongando-sundaeguk-jeongsik/sinchon-pyeongando-sundaeguk-jeongsik-21-10gpg-966.webp)

## Pork bone hangover soup with plenty of meat

My favorite hangover soup dish: pork bone hangover soup.

![Pork bone hangover soup with large bones](https://img.superchart.com/images/sinchon-pyeongando-sundaeguk-jeongsik/sinchon-pyeongando-sundaeguk-jeongsik-22-j223t-1200.webp)

It had two large bones, with an extremely generous amount of meat clinging to them, so it was definitely not a small portion haha. It seems like it would be enough for even big eaters as a meal, but if it is not enough, you can order it as a set, right?

![Pork bone hangover soup with plenty of meat](https://img.superchart.com/images/sinchon-pyeongando-sundaeguk-jeongsik/sinchon-pyeongando-sundaeguk-jeongsik-23-137wc-966.webp)

Rather than being aggressively seasoned, the broth was rich, clean, and pleasantly spicy! The sundae-guk was also deliciously mild and nutty, but... I simply cannot give up pork bone hangover soup... It was also fun fishing out and eating the glass noodles inside at Pyeongando Sikdang!

I recommend Pyeongando Sikdang Sinchon Branch to anyone near Sinchon Station who needs a hangover cure, is craving good gukbap, or is looking for great sundae-guk in Sinchon. Fill yourself up, right down to your stomach, with a warm bowl of soup.
