Boseung Hoegwan Cheonho Station Branch is a 24-hour gukbap restaurant in Gangdong, Seoul, near Cheonho Station Exit 3. ## A hearty bowl of gukbap at Cheonho Station

I visited Boseung Hoegwan Cheonho Station Branch (보승회관 천호역점) because I wanted a hearty meal around Cheonho Station. Gukbap, a Korean soup served with rice, is easy to enjoy alone, and its warm broth, rice, and meat make it a meal I find myself returning to often. That day, while looking for something light enough to eat, I stopped by Boseung Hoegwan near Cheonho Station.

What especially caught my eye was that Boseung Hoegwan Cheonho Station Branch is open 24 hours, so I could visit without worrying too much about the time. It is also close to Cheonho Station Exit 3, which makes it fairly easy to reach.

Boseung Hoegwan Cheonho Station Branch is at 1F, Unit 1, 654 Olympic-ro, Gangdong-gu, Seoul, near Cheonho Station Exit 3. It is open 24 hours a day, year-round.

There are times when you need somewhere to eat late around Cheonho Station, and having a gukbap restaurant open around the clock feels quite convenient then. Gukbap works well for breakfast or a hangover meal, and it is equally easygoing for lunch or dinner, so it is a good place to visit at any hour.

## Parking and the restaurant atmosphere

If you are driving, you can use the parking area behind the building. Boseung Hoegwan Cheonho Station Branch has both ground-level and mechanical parking there, and parking is free. Since it is a restaurant near Cheonho Station, though, the spaces are not especially plentiful, so it is best to check the parking situation ahead of time during meal hours. If parking is essential, I recommend confirming availability before visiting. It is close to Exit 3, so public transit is also an easy option if parking is a concern.

When I went inside, the restaurant felt more spacious and tidy than I had expected. It is easy to picture a gukbap restaurant with tables packed tightly together, but Boseung Hoegwan Cheonho Station Branch had solo seats as well as tables for groups.

So it did not feel awkward to come in alone. I personally pay attention to that when eating by myself, and I liked that it was an easygoing place to sit down for a bowl of gukbap and head out. It seems like a solid option for anyone looking for a solo meal near Cheonho Station, too. It also looked comfortable for a meal with friends or family, making it suitable for anything from dining alone to eating in a group. The wood-toned tables gave the space a relaxed feel rather than a stiff one.

## The gukbap menu and my pork jowl choice

Looking over the menu, there were more kinds of gukbap than I expected.

- Sundae gukbap ₩11,000 / spicy sundae gukbap ₩12,000
- Boiled-pork gukbap ₩11,000 / spicy boiled-pork gukbap ₩12,000
- Pork jowl boiled-pork gukbap ₩13,000 / offal gukbap ₩11,500
- Pork-bone hangover soup ₩11,000 / Hell gukbap ₩12,000
- Hangover ramen ₩11,500 / osori gukbap ₩11,500
- Samgyetang ₩14,000 / solo special set ₩16,000

Besides gukbap, there were seasonal dishes including mul naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodles in broth), bibim naengmyeon (spicy mixed cold noodles), and pollock sashimi naengmyeon. There were also extras such as pressed pork head meat, fire-grilled meat, plated sundae, seasoned pollock sashimi, seasoned boiled dumplings, and DIY rice balls. If you visit with several people, it could be nice to order gukbap alongside a few side dishes.

The top of the menu also noted that gukbap comes with seasoning sauce and perilla seed powder by default. If you do not want them, you can mention it when ordering, so you can have it to your taste.

I ordered the pork jowl boiled-pork gukbap for ₩13,000. I usually like pork jowl, so this was the first thing that caught my attention on the menu. Sundae gukbap and boiled-pork gukbap are easy to find normally, but this one felt a little different, so I decided to try it. Not long after ordering, the gukbap arrived in a ttukbaegi, a Korean earthenware pot. Meat and perilla seed powder sat on top of the broth, with the rice served separately.

## Hot broth and springy pork jowl

The basic side dishes were kimchi, kkakdugi cubed radish kimchi, chives, and salted shrimp. The pork jowl gukbap arrived hot enough to bubble in the ttukbaegi. Gukbap really does taste best when it is piping hot.

At first, I did not mix the rice straight into the soup; I tried the broth and meat first. Pork jowl has its distinctive springy, chewy texture, so it felt a little different from gukbap with ordinary pork. Since I already like pork jowl, I really enjoyed that texture. A piece of meat with rice, followed by a spoonful of broth, naturally kept me eating. I also added chives to the broth, and their aroma and texture went very well with the gukbap.

The kimchi and kkakdugi were also good with the rice, and before I knew it, I had nearly finished a whole bowl of rice. The pork jowl and rice together were more filling than I expected. If you like both pork jowl and gukbap, choosing the pork jowl boiled-pork gukbap instead of the usual sundae or boiled-pork version could be a nice option.

## Why it was comfortable for a solo meal at Cheonho Station

One thing I liked about this visit was how comfortable it was to eat alone. Gukbap itself is a good food for a solo meal, but the restaurant also has solo seats, so I could eat comfortably by myself. If you are running errands alone around Cheonho Station or looking for a solo lunch as an office worker, I think gukbap is a pretty good choice.

With just one order, you get rice, meat, and broth all at once, so there is no need to order several separate things. It had the right atmosphere for coming alone, having a warm bowl of gukbap, and finishing a neat meal. Since it is open 24 hours, it is also useful to keep in mind when looking for somewhere to eat alone late at night.

At Boseung Hoegwan Cheonho Station Branch, I tried the ₩13,000 pork jowl boiled-pork gukbap. I chose it because I usually enjoy pork jowl, and the hot broth with pork jowl and rice made for a quite satisfying meal. The distinctive springy texture of the pork jowl also made it feel a little different from ordinary sundae gukbap or boiled-pork gukbap. Its location near Cheonho Station Exit 3 and its 24-hour hours are advantages, too.
