## In short

Mulgogijip is an izakaya in Mapo, Seoul, a 2-minute walk from Exit 4 of Daeheung Station, with terrace seats that look out over the Gyeongui Line Forest Trail. This visit covered the sashimi moriawase (assorted sashimi) at 39,000 won, futomaki (thick sushi roll) at 20,000 won and truffle abalone innard cream pasta at 24,000 won with Yebisu draft beer, finished with Maldon salt green tea ice cream at 6,000 won. Both the night view from the terrace and the cooking held up, so Mulgogijip is an easy pick for a date or a second-round drinks spot.

## Where is Mulgogijip? Terrace seats over the Gyeongui Line Forest Trail at night

Today's spot is Mulgogijip (물고기집), located along the Gyeongui Line Forest Trail.

![Table seating inside Mulgogijip](https://img.superchart.com/images/mulgogijip-terrace-night-sashimi-futomaki/mulgogijip-terrace-night-sashimi-futomaki-02-vdqmf-m-966.webp)

Inside there are about 10 tables, including 4-seaters and 2-seaters, plus about 10 terrace seats. The terrace faces the Gyeongui Line Forest Trail, so coming at night the view was really something.

They also had pretty lighting set up, so just sitting there zoning out at the forest trail felt healing.

## The complimentary starter and Yebisu draft beer, 12,000 won

![Table setting served with soju](https://img.superchart.com/images/mulgogijip-terrace-night-sashimi-futomaki/mulgogijip-terrace-night-sashimi-futomaki-05-1iqyk-966.webp)

After ordering the sashimi moriawase, futomaki, and soju, they brought out a basic side dish along with everything.

![Cabbage salad topped with chicken breast, the basic side dish](https://img.superchart.com/images/mulgogijip-terrace-night-sashimi-futomaki/mulgogijip-terrace-night-sashimi-futomaki-06-1b7tm-966.webp)

It looked like shredded chicken breast on top of cabbage salad — the varied texture kept me picking at it piece by piece right to the end.

![A glass of Yebisu draft beer at Mulgogijip](https://img.superchart.com/images/mulgogijip-terrace-night-sashimi-futomaki/mulgogijip-terrace-night-sashimi-futomaki-07-l2qs9-966.webp)
*Yebisu draft beer ₩12,000*

They happened to have Yebisu draft, and I couldn't just pass that up. Beer tastes clean and goes down smoothly only when the tap machine is well maintained, and theirs clearly was — it tasted just like drinking it in Japan.

## Sashimi moriawase, 39,000 won: which fish and how much

![A plate of sashimi moriawase with flounder, amberjack, salmon and more](https://img.superchart.com/images/mulgogijip-terrace-night-sashimi-futomaki/mulgogijip-terrace-night-sashimi-futomaki-08-14upv-966.webp)
*Sashimi moriawase ₩39,000*

The sashimi moriawase arrived with a good variety — flounder, greater amberjack, abalone, salmon, sweet shrimp, akami (lean tuna) and more, three pieces of each. At most other places that amount would be for two people with two pieces each, so I was surprised at how generous the portion was. The aging and flavor were both good, so for this atmosphere, this taste, and this quantity, I'd call it solid value.

## Futomaki, 20,000 won: the trick of topping it with sashimi

![Futomaki filled with tuna and salmon](https://img.superchart.com/images/mulgogijip-terrace-night-sashimi-futomaki/mulgogijip-terrace-night-sashimi-futomaki-09-n4o82-966.webp)
*Futomaki ₩20,000*

Next came the futomaki (thick seaweed rice roll), made today with tuna and salmon. Those happen to be my favorite fish, and they paired nicely with the fried shrimp inside — savory and delicious.

![Cross-section of a fist-sized futomaki roll](https://img.superchart.com/images/mulgogijip-terrace-night-sashimi-futomaki/mulgogijip-terrace-night-sashimi-futomaki-10-1jnsl-966.webp)

The size was almost as big as Sojjang's fist, haha.

![Futomaki topped with salmon and sweet shrimp](https://img.superchart.com/images/mulgogijip-terrace-night-sashimi-futomaki/mulgogijip-terrace-night-sashimi-futomaki-11-8esnq-966.webp)

Sojjang's tip was to pile salmon and sweet shrimp on top of the futomaki — I tried it this way too, and with the higher sashimi ratio it was so much tastier. Once again I thought, Sojjang really knows food.

## Truffle abalone innard cream pasta, 24,000 won

![A plate of truffle abalone innard cream pasta](https://img.superchart.com/images/mulgogijip-terrace-night-sashimi-futomaki/mulgogijip-terrace-night-sashimi-futomaki-12-18v05-1200.webp)
*Truffle abalone innard cream pasta ₩24,000*

Since the food quality overall was solid, I decided to order a pasta too.

![Close-up of the cream pasta topped with abalone, perilla leaves and arare](https://img.superchart.com/images/mulgogijip-terrace-night-sashimi-futomaki/mulgogijip-terrace-night-sashimi-futomaki-13-1t3ri-966.webp)

The pasta came with a rich innard sauce, abalone, perilla leaves, and even arare on top for extra texture. Arare are those little fried ball-shaped Japanese senbei — I never imagined seeing them on pasta. You could really feel the effort to add extra flavor, and I enjoyed it a lot.

## Maldon salt green tea ice cream, 6,000 won, to finish

![Green tea ice cream topped with Maldon salt](https://img.superchart.com/images/mulgogijip-terrace-night-sashimi-futomaki/mulgogijip-terrace-night-sashimi-futomaki-14-9eqt3-966.webp)
*Maldon salt green tea ice cream ₩6,000*

Last up was the Maldon salt green tea ice cream — simply put, salted green tea ice cream. The green tea flavor was rich and just sweet enough, a perfect palate cleanser to end the meal. I'd definitely recommend trying this one at the end!

## Who should visit Mulgogijip, and on what kind of night?

> To sum up

I'd walked past the Gyeongui Line Forest Trail now and then, but today was the first time I realized a place this charming existed here. Having a drink on the terrace while looking out at the forest trail felt as good as drinking at a campsite somewhere — and with great food quality and delicious Yebisu on top, it seems like a great spot for a date or a second-round hangout. It looks like a lot of people from nearby offices come here for meals too, probably because...
