## In short

Usu is a Korean fine-dining restaurant in Mapo, Seoul, serving Hanwoo-focused courses in private rooms. From pre-meal bites to grilled beef and garden-like dessert, Usu's seasonal presentation made the whole meal feel special. Verdict: a deeply satisfying pick for an important occasion.

I visited a Seoul restaurant where you can enjoy premium fine dining in an elegant private room. I made a reservation at this specialist in premium Hanwoo course cuisine, and I’ll share the course lineup and my overall thoughts. Spoiler: I was hugely satisfied!

## Private rooms near Gongdeok Station, perfect for family introductions

A restaurant for a family introduction meeting, visited for a special anniversary or meaningful time with someone dear, is not simply a place to fill up.

![Private atmosphere at a family introduction restaurant](https://img.superchart.com/images/gongdeok-private-hanwoo-course-woosu/gongdeok-private-hanwoo-course-woosu-01-w2cj9-900.webp)

It is somewhere you take in the complete experience: the private, quiet atmosphere and the neatly prepared food. This Hanwoo omakase and fine-dining specialist gave me an aesthetic thrill from the first bite through the final dessert. Above all, with its room-based layout, it was as close to perfect as it gets for a family introduction restaurant. I’ll record the thoughtful course in detail—the ingredients, techniques, and what I genuinely felt.

The restaurant is made up of private rooms, so it looked ideal for a family introduction meal. The two of us ate at a four-person table, and the clean setting under soft lighting made it the perfect environment to focus entirely on the food and conversation.

There was also a hanger inside the room for putting away coats, which was convenient.

## A Korean fine-dining course centered on Hanwoo

The dishes here are served as a course. Hanwoo is the centerpiece, but it is more accurate to think of it as Korean fine dining.

There are delicious options at a range of prices, so you can look over the menu and choose what appeals to you.

### Nature-inspired starters and seafood finger food

The porridge and opening dishes were so lavishly presented, with a wonderfully nature-friendly feel, that I could not take my eyes off them. Pre-meal liquor and bite-sized treats sat charmingly on a tray inspired by moss, stones, and trees, clearly showing the culinary world this restaurant is pursuing.

For seafood finger food, we had a sweet shrimp and gimbugak (crispy fried seaweed chip) canapé. Plenty of tender sweet shrimp, or amaebi, was piled onto premium crispy gimbugak, then finished with a sprig of a refreshing Hallabong- or young-citrus-type leaf. The shrimp’s melting sweetness and richness harmonized beautifully with the crunch of the gimbugak. There was no fishiness at all—just the ingredients’ natural flavors gently spreading across the palate.

The mushroom-paste pastry brioche was presented on a tree-stump-shaped serving piece. Deeply flavored mushroom paste and fried mugwort topped soft, nutty brioche toast. The mushroom umami that emerged as I chewed, together with the bread’s nutty flavor, was excellent.

The next dish was a more modern interpretation of Hanwoo yukhoe (seasoned raw beef). A generous mound of finely chopped, nuttily seasoned premium Hanwoo yukhoe sat atop lightly vinegared rice; when I gently wrapped it in the wide sheet of gamtae seaweed from Taean and ate it in one bite, aromas of the sea and flavors of the land came together. The delicate balance was outstanding, with nuttiness and umami seeming to burst out as I chewed.

### Warm dishes and abalone gardenia noodles

The next part of the course was made up of warm dishes that soothed and comforted the stomach.

![Tofu dish with mushrooms and kabocha squash](https://img.superchart.com/images/gongdeok-private-hanwoo-course-woosu/gongdeok-private-hanwoo-course-woosu-13-7j58i-900.webp)

This tofu dish came with crisp-on-the-outside, soft-on-the-inside mushrooms and kabocha squash in a richly textured cream soup, and the combination worked so well. It was so good that I wondered whether this is what a modern interpretation of kongbiji, soybean-pulp stew, would feel like. The green oil dotted over the soup was a visual accent, of course, but also added a lovely fragrance throughout the meal. The soft creaminess and crisp filling were in perfect harmony—so delicious.

![Abalone gardenia noodles with shredded perilla leaf](https://img.superchart.com/images/gongdeok-private-hanwoo-course-woosu/gongdeok-private-hanwoo-course-woosu-15-1bk8h-900.webp)

This was five-color gardenia noodles topped with sliced live abalone that had been carefully scored and gently steamed. In a lightly reduced, refreshing umami broth, the noodles came with a little sharpness and shredded perilla leaf, and every strand tasted refined. Above all, the abalone’s chewy yet tender texture was so delicious that it felt like a dish from an upscale seafood restaurant.

![Tilefish dish with glutinous rice and broth](https://img.superchart.com/images/gongdeok-private-hanwoo-course-woosu/gongdeok-private-hanwoo-course-woosu-16-14yqv-900.webp)

Before moving on to grilled Hanwoo, an okdom, or tilefish, dish arrived: a fish fillet was grilled with its scales left crisp, placed over savory glutinous rice, and the chef poured warm broth over it tableside. The tender fish, crisp skin, and warm broth came together for a deep, rich flavor. The tilefish was truly delicious. I was surprised.

## Striploin Hanwoo and the course finale

The tteokgalbi (grilled minced-meat patty) served alongside was also really delicious, but by this point I was starting to get very full, haha. It was time for the main grilled Hanwoo. Top-grade Hanwoo with gorgeous marbling and colorful garnishes were neatly arranged on a weighty cast-iron pan stamped with the logo.

Even before cooking, the striploin’s vivid fresh-red color and dense, snowflake-like marbling were enough to whet my appetite. It was very easy to eat. Asparagus, yellow bell pepper, zucchini, and shiitake mushrooms grilled alongside the Hanwoo cut through the richness of the meat and added varied texture. It was fun mixing and matching it with salt, wasabi, and the house sauce according to my taste.

Dessert, served after the full course, delighted both the eyes and the palate right to the end.

![Dessert inspired by moss and basalt](https://img.superchart.com/images/gongdeok-private-hanwoo-course-woosu/gongdeok-private-hanwoo-course-woosu-23-143ej-900.webp)

![Consommé ice cream dessert and tea](https://img.superchart.com/images/gongdeok-private-hanwoo-course-woosu/gongdeok-private-hanwoo-course-woosu-24-5do8k-900.webp)

It brought to mind cute green moss-like crumbs and black basalt, while the consommé ice cream was tastier than I expected. The plating looked like a garden in a painting. The tea served alongside was also so good, haha.

## Why it is worth visiting near Gongdeok Station for a special day

The fine-dining family introduction restaurant I visited today offers more than simply delicious food: its thoughtful storytelling, carrying the feeling of the seasons, and flawless course composition really stood out. Its location near Gongdeok Station also seemed very accessible, since parents coming up from other regions via the Airport Railroad can reach it from Gimpo Airport, Incheon Airport, or Seoul Station. I was extremely satisfied, so I absolutely recommend it to anyone considering a visit.

If you want an unforgettable gourmet experience on a special day, I recommend visiting at least once.
