## In short

Gyudongjip Noryangjin Main Branch is a Japanese-style rice bowl restaurant in Dongjak, Seoul, an 8–10 minute walk from Noryangjin Station Exit 3, in the restaurant alley behind Samik Plaza near Cup Rice Alley. On a weekend lunch visit with a friend, the wait was about 5 minutes, and the meal at the bar table included a yukhoe (raw beef) bowl set, a gyudon (beef rice bowl) set meal, shrimp tempura, sweet potato cheese croquettes and a melon drink. With single bar seats through 4–5 person group tables, Gyudongjip suits solo diners, dates and small groups alike.

Gyudongjip, a solo-dining favorite in Noryangjin — also perfect for a date.

I went to Noryangjin with a friend to pick up some sashimi to go, and it turned out to be lunchtime haha! While we were figuring out where to get a filling, clean meal, we decided to head to Gyudongjip, a Noryangjin solo-dining spot I'd been to before. It's a great date restaurant too — when you actually go, you see couples and groups of friends there, so I'd recommend it for either.

## Where is Gyudongjip? 8–10 minutes on foot from Noryangjin Station Exit 3

It's an 8–10 minute walk from Exit 3 of Noryangjin Station, so it's quite accessible on foot. Walk in behind the lively Cup Rice Alley and into the restaurant alley near Samik Plaza, and you'll spot Gyudongjip standing out with its clean, stylish exterior among the surrounding buildings.

## Gyudongjip hours and how long the weekend lunch wait runs

Gyudongjip is open daily from 11am to 9pm, with last order at 8:15pm — good to know in advance. We went on a weekend, and from around noon to 1pm you should expect some kind of wait, but since the menu turns over quickly, you won't be waiting long even if there's a line.

## Seating at Gyudongjip: solo bar seats and 2-person date tables

True to its reputation as a Noryangjin solo-dining spot, there's a bar table, and we got seated there after about a 5-minute wait; a kiosk at each table makes ordering easy. The wooden deck exterior had me excited before I even walked in, and the interior is compactly but thoughtfully laid out, so getting settled in for the meal was a pleasant experience. Two-person tables and group seating for 4–5 are also well balanced throughout, so next time I plan to bring my girlfriend here as a date spot.

We ordered the yukhoe bowl set and the gyudon set, added some fried items, and threw in a melon-flavored drink too — every time I come here, this melon drink is so good I end up adding it to the order again. We chatted while reading through the Gyudongjip usage guide, and before long our order arrived.

## Yukhoe bowl set: sauce on the side, wrapped in seaweed

This place is known for great value, letting you enjoy a varied home-style spread without breaking the bank, so from the moment the food arrived we were busy snapping photos to send to friends. The yukhoe bowl set came out first.

![The full yukhoe bowl set spread](https://img.superchart.com/images/noryangjin-gyudongjip-weekend-lunch-yukhoe/noryangjin-gyudongjip-weekend-lunch-yukhoe-10-7qavj-900.webp)

![Yukhoedon piled high with raw beef](https://img.superchart.com/images/noryangjin-gyudongjip-weekend-lunch-yukhoe/noryangjin-gyudongjip-weekend-lunch-yukhoe-11-115nv-900.webp)

The yukhoedon, piled high with vivid red fresh raw beef, was visually satisfying the moment it arrived. The beef had a chewy, satisfying texture, and they thoughtfully served the salty special sauce on the side so you could adjust it to taste.

The side dishes — kimchi and crunchy pickled radish you can nibble on along the way — were also great!

For the yukhoe bowl, once you mix in the right amount of sauce, it's even more delicious wrapped in the seaweed they provide. Crisp, fresh vegetables, chewy raw beef, and the savory sauce all coming together made it impossible not to smile. I think this dish is perfect for anyone who loves Korean food and wants a filling, fresh meal. I'd been really craving yukhoe recently, and this fully satisfied that craving — a great menu choice.

## Gyudon set meal: house-made sauce, poached egg, ₩2,000 extra portion

My friend ordered the gyudon set, which is, as the restaurant's name suggests, their most confident signature dish. On a bed of fluffy rice sat neatly arranged beef — grilled to a nice golden brown with none of the usual gamey smell — along with green onion and pickled ginger. They said they don't use store-bought sauce but instead make a deep, rich house-made sauce by simmering down various vegetables themselves. I stole a bite and the umami was outstanding.

![Close-up of gyudon made with house-made sauce](https://img.superchart.com/images/noryangjin-gyudongjip-weekend-lunch-yukhoe/noryangjin-gyudongjip-weekend-lunch-yukhoe-17-1ph1i-900.webp)

![Poached egg placed on top of the gyudon](https://img.superchart.com/images/noryangjin-gyudongjip-weekend-lunch-yukhoe/noryangjin-gyudongjip-weekend-lunch-yukhoe-18-19u63-900.webp)

As instructed in the guide, if you place the poached egg on top of the bowl, break it, and mix everything evenly, it works magic — deepening the beef's clean savoriness with no eggy smell at all. We swapped the tempura option for shrimp tempura, and since my friend is a guy, we also added the ₩2,000 portion upgrade — turned out to be a great call.

Despite being called "mini," the mini mojiba (cold buckwheat noodles) that came with it was surprisingly generous in portion, with a refreshingly cool broth, rounding out a full set meal you never get tired of. If I lived nearby, I can say with certainty I'd become a regular at this Noryangjin solo-dining spot.

## Shrimp tempura, sweet potato cheese croquette and black sesame salad

The shrimp tempura and croquette also came out freshly fried, and as a fried-food lover, they totally won me over.

![Freshly fried shrimp tempura](https://img.superchart.com/images/noryangjin-gyudongjip-weekend-lunch-yukhoe/noryangjin-gyudongjip-weekend-lunch-yukhoe-22-56n78-900.webp)

Honestly, the quality nearly outshone the main dishes and had me giving a thumbs up. The crispy shrimp tempura had plump, springy shrimp inside a thin batter, and dipping it in the spicy sauce was fantastic. The sweet potato cheese croquette poured out a rich flood of cheese along with sweet mashed sweet potato inside, making me randomly think I should get some to go and enjoy with a beer at home.

A salad drizzled with black sesame sauce came along with it too, cleanly cutting through the richness.

## Is Gyudongjip good for solo dining and dates?

There was even a nice detail of plum tea served before and after the meal, which had me nearly falling in love with Gyudongjip. It felt like being treated to a high-quality meal that rivals what you'd get in Japan itself, all at a reasonable price — a true Noryangjin solo-dining spot. With comfortable single seats as well as 2-person and 4-person tables, I'd also give it top marks as a date spot to spend a satisfying time with a friend.
