## In short

Daegang is an aged sashimi (sukseonghoe) pub on the Seokchon Lake café street in Songpa, Seoul, with a large outdoor patio out front and a separate, airy indoor hall. On a Thursday evening the patio had a wait while the indoor hall seated us right away, so we ordered the assorted aged sashimi platter with a soju jjabaegi made with lemon slices and a side of corn cheese. The thick-cut sashimi with free-refill seaweed, baek-kimchi (white kimchi) and wasabi is what makes Daegang worth the trip.

I was looking for somewhere to eat dinner near Seokchon Lake in Jamsil and ended up at Daegang. These days the evenings have gotten pleasantly cool, so drinking outside beats sitting indoors, right? So I looked around for spots in Jamsil good for a patio (yajang) setup, and Daegang has a pretty wide outdoor area out front — it's hugely popular!!

## Daegang's patio or indoor hall: which seats to pick

Daegang runs its front patio and inner hall separately, with separate waitlists too. On a Thursday evening, the patio had a fair wait, but we walked straight into the hall with no waiting at all.

![Atmosphere of Daegang's patio and indoor hall](https://img.superchart.com/images/daegang-songpa-aged-sashimi-hall-seat/daegang-songpa-aged-sashimi-hall-seat-02-xxcd2-966.webp)

![View of Daegang's indoor hall seating](https://img.superchart.com/images/daegang-songpa-aged-sashimi-hall-seat/daegang-songpa-aged-sashimi-hall-seat-03-atd7d-966.webp)

![The open, airy interior of Daegang's hall](https://img.superchart.com/images/daegang-songpa-aged-sashimi-hall-seat/daegang-songpa-aged-sashimi-hall-seat-04-180u6-966.webp)

From outside it looked like a place built entirely around the patio, but the indoor hall turned out to be surprisingly spacious and open too.

One thing I loved: you can watch the owner slicing sashimi right there at the open kitchen. Even without a patio seat, that open feel made eating in the hall totally satisfying. Since patio and hall waitlists are handled separately, anyone eating in the hall could get in without waiting (on a Thursday evening, at least) — the patio had a decent wait, sadly.

## Daegang's menu and how to order by QR code

![Daegang's menu](https://img.superchart.com/images/daegang-songpa-aged-sashimi-hall-seat/daegang-songpa-aged-sashimi-hall-seat-06-17z0t-966.webp)

The menu at Daegang is kept simple! You order by scanning a QR code at your seat and ordering on your phone. We wanted both the aged sashimi and the raw shrimp sashimi, but during busy hours they close off raw shrimp orders (probably because it's all peeled fresh to order, ugh). So we went with the classic — the signature aged sashimi — plus baek-kimchi and lemon slices to go with the fish and drinks. We also added a simple side, corn cheese!

## How to drink soju jjabaegi with lemon slices

![Soju jjabaegi with lemon slices in an iced glass](https://img.superchart.com/images/daegang-songpa-aged-sashimi-hall-seat/daegang-songpa-aged-sashimi-hall-seat-07-1yjep-966.webp)

![A glass of soju made by pressing in lemon](https://img.superchart.com/images/daegang-songpa-aged-sashimi-hall-seat/daegang-songpa-aged-sashimi-hall-seat-09-139rl-966.webp)

You can't eat sashimi without soju, right? We added lemon slices to soju, filled a glass with ice, and made it into a jjabaegi. Pressing the lemon slightly now and then adds a fresh citrus aroma. A thick piece of sashimi followed by a cool sip is exactly the right combo! Sitting on a cool evening at a Jamsil patio with a bite of aged sashimi and a lemon jjabaegi in hand is just... good ✨

## Daegang's assorted aged sashimi platter: thick-cut from the first slice

![A plate of thick-cut assorted aged sashimi at Daegang](https://img.superchart.com/images/daegang-songpa-aged-sashimi-hall-seat/daegang-songpa-aged-sashimi-hall-seat-10-6m0uk-966.webp)

The moment Daegang's assorted aged sashimi arrived, the thickness was the first thing I noticed. Each piece was cut generously large and thick.

![Assorted aged sashimi with salmon, flounder, and red seabream](https://img.superchart.com/images/daegang-songpa-aged-sashimi-hall-seat/daegang-songpa-aged-sashimi-hall-seat-11-8xf83-1200.webp)

It came with salmon, flounder, red seabream, flounder fin, and seaweed fusion (tot), among others — seems like it varies depending on what's fresh that day. Above all, the assorted aged sashimi really delivered that chewy texture and umami unique to aged sashimi. Instead of the style where you eat many thin slices, you get to chew on one thick, mouth-filling piece, and it was so~ good.

## Seaweed, baek-kimchi and wasabi: eat them together

![A wrap of seaweed with aged sashimi and baek-kimchi](https://img.superchart.com/images/daegang-songpa-aged-sashimi-hall-seat/daegang-songpa-aged-sashimi-hall-seat-12-6m2am-966.webp)

![Unlimited seaweed refills served with baek-kimchi and wasabi](https://img.superchart.com/images/daegang-songpa-aged-sashimi-hall-seat/daegang-songpa-aged-sashimi-hall-seat-13-19pg5-966.webp)

The combo of putting aged sashimi, baek-kimchi, and wasabi on a piece of seaweed! Lay a thick piece of fish on a seaweed sheet, add a little baek-kimchi and wasabi, and eat it in one bite — genuinely so good, ugh. The seaweed is free-refill, so we kept wrapping without any hesitation haha. Among the sashimi restaurants around Songni-dan-gil, I especially liked how Daegang slices the aged sashimi thick and lets you eat it in so many different combinations.

We also added chodaeri (vinegar soy sauce) and made our own salmon sushi with it!! Genuinely so tasty. Really recommend the sashimi here...

## The corn cheese side we kept reaching for

![Corn cheese ordered as a side dish](https://img.superchart.com/images/daegang-songpa-aged-sashimi-hall-seat/daegang-songpa-aged-sashimi-hall-seat-16-1hfyk-966.webp)

Eating just sashimi felt a little lacking, so we ordered corn cheese too and it turned out more satisfying than expected — there seemed to be something else in the sauce besides cheese, maybe a bburinkle-style sauce. After all the sashimi and soju cooling us down, warming back up with a bite of hot, savory corn cheese every so often was genuinely great. If you want one side dish to add alongside the assorted aged sashimi, corn cheese is my recommendation!

## Is Daegang worth a visit? Final verdict

We ate in the hall with no wait, and honestly the atmosphere there was great too — so I'm satisfied! If the patio wait gets long, don't be disappointed, the hall is genuinely worth recommending too. Above all, the most satisfying part of the day was the aged sashimi. Chewy texture, great umami, and a generous portion made it feel like a genuinely good value pick. If you're looking for somewhere to have a drink around Seokchon Lake or Songni-dan-gil, Daegang is a sashimi spot worth recommending to anyone who loves fish!!
