My mother-in-law called to tell us to come pick up some green-onion kimchi, so we went to Incheon in the morning. My parents-in-law had both gone to work, and as we were taking it out ourselves, my husband and I thought, “Our work schedule is tight too—let’s eat before we go!” So we stopped by the neighborhood spot my mother-in-law had heard so much about: Hongdae Gureume Incheon Nonhyeon Branch ♡

## An interior like walking into Fukuoka

It was so fun looking around inside. There’s a reason they call it Fukuoka you can walk to. The décor and cute little props really gave the feeling of walking straight into Fukuoka.

There are mostly tables for two and four, along with bar seats that are great for solo dining. The walls are packed with writing: explanations of Hongdae Gureume’s menu, the chef’s career and TV appearances, and the restaurant’s philosophy about food.

Hongdae Gureume’s Nonhyeon branch is a Japanese restaurant that has been loved in Incheon’s Nonhyeon-dong for more than 11 years under the concept of “Fukuoka within walking distance.” They say you can enjoy a wide range of Japanese dishes personally developed and prepared by a Japanese cuisine chef with 25 years of experience who graduated from Japan’s Hattori Nutrition College.

Its signature Kumamoto-style ramen combines deeply simmered broth with kuromayu, black garlic oil made with Uiseong black garlic, for a rich, deep flavor. You can choose Fukuoka-style or Korean-style ramen according to your taste. Another Hongdae Gureume-only signature is scoopable sushi: fresh salmon, tuna, and sushi rice are gathered into one spoonful, making it easy to eat, and it’s a popular must-order for returning guests.

It has appeared on many TV programs, including SBS’s Taste vs. Taste, MBC’s Find Delicious TV, and KBS’s Live Info Show. I brought over the menu!!! The value is so good.

There’s ramen with three broth choices, scoopable sushi, sake don (salmon rice bowl), many kinds of ramen and sushi, and katsu set meals.

Every table has aprons, hair ties, and phone stands. There was also information about the benefits of prepaid top-ups: you can receive up to 15% extra credit. They can be purchased during the first week of each month and are valid for one year.

## Korean-style ramen set and assorted katsu B set

While waiting after ordering, we tried the little draw for a word of comfort and luck. My husband got, “No matter what anyone says, you are the only one of your kind in the universe,” and I got, “It’s okay to be a little clumsy. Everyone is living life for the first time.” Such wise words!! We ordered the Korean-style ramen set and assorted katsu B set.

### Korean-style ramen with spicy sauce in tonkotsu broth

There are three ramen choices: Kumamoto-style, with stir-fried black garlic added to tonkotsu broth; classic Fukuoka-style, using only tonkotsu broth; and Korean-style, with spicy sauce added to tonkotsu broth. We chose the third, Korean-style one.

It came loaded with chashu, bean sprouts, and shredded green onion. The spicy-looking broth was gorgeous. It is about as spicy as Shin Ramyun and would be great for a hangover. My husband fell for that warming, clearing heat. If Japanese ramen feels a bit heavy to you, I think this would be just the right menu choice.

The bean sprouts were crisp, and the broth was delicious—another little moment of delight.

I nearly burned the roof of my mouth on the freshly fried karaage (Japanese fried chicken). It tastes even better because it’s hot, haha.

For the assorted katsu B set, we received a full spread of snow-cheese katsu, pork loin katsu, ebi fry, rice, clear soup, salad, wasabi salt, and two kinds of sauce.

The dish I fell for 😍😍😍 It was packed full of yellow cheese inside! They lightly torch the cheese sprinkled on the outside, adding a smoky char, so the cheese katsu is just perfect. I want it again already~

The pork loin katsu was also full and meaty, with just the right thickness of breading. The fried shrimp was so crisp and delicious too—I sincerely recommend this menu.

As you’d expect from a place that has lasted 11 years in one spot, it seemed to have so many true regulars. There was a mountain of coupon cards they had used for years—there were even more off to the side than what you see in the photo. They also add points using your phone number. And that wrapped up our lunch ♡

If you are looking for a tasty meal after a movie at Nonhyeon Megabox, sightseeing at Sorae Pogu, or a fun outing at Neulsollgil Sheep Ranch, Hongdae Gureume Incheon Nonhyeon Branch would be such a good choice. From ramen, pork loin katsu, cheese katsu, fried shrimp, and karaage, there was nothing that wasn’t delicious. No wonder it has become a genuinely well-known neighborhood favorite. Food has to be delicious for word to spread, after all. I agree with the buzz, so I’m spreading it too.

- You absolutely have to go here two or three times.
- It is a compact dining room, but packed with Fukuoka details—so much fun to look around.
- Convenient parking.
- Everyone is so kind. (If I were the owner, they’d be getting recruitment offers.)
- Above all, I was very satisfied with the food.
