It is close to home, so it is easy to get to—and since there had been no performance on my last visit, I was curious about one. So I booked for a night with a show. Those were reasons too, but the biggest one was that when I told Mom a cool, atmospheric jazz bar had opened in our neighborhood, she really, really wanted to go. My aunt had also heard about it from me, visited without a reservation, and couldn't get in because it was full; she was so curious too. So I booked ahead for the day Mom came up to Seoul. Mom and my aunt were both extremely satisfied, and it was such a fun performance night that it made me want to come again too: Kick Ass Jazz Club. ## Kick Ass Jazz Club near Gunja Station: location and hours It is 231 m from Gunja Station Exit 3, less than a five-minute walk from the exit, so it is very easy to reach. It is a space where you can drop in anytime, comfortably enjoy drinks and food, and casually take in jazz as well as blues, soul, pop, and more. You don't have to know jazz well. Just enjoy whatever you hear and see—that's it...! Maybe because I visited on a performance night, the place was already nearly full, and all the remaining seats were reserved. I thought, ah, so this is why my aunt couldn't get in last time. A reservation is essential on performance nights!!! I had booked ahead, so I was shown to our reserved seats right in the front row. I had booked for four, but my younger brother suddenly decided to join us, so I asked whether it might be possible to change to five. They said it would be difficult because the seats were assigned. Once I saw the reserved seating when we arrived, I immediately understood why they said that. Please, please, please think carefully when you make your reservation. When I visited, I got to see Lee Yeon-jae & Friends. On days with live music, there is a ₩12,000 cover charge per person, and the entire amount is used as performance fees for the musicians. For smooth operation and to preserve the performance culture, on nights with a show each table must order either one bottle of whisky or wine, or one plate or dish plus one drink per person. I remembered that the hot dog and other snacks I ordered on my previous visit had been delicious, but even the salad was good. I was dieting, but somehow forgot I was dieting and ate every little thing as a snack; haha. Having a glass of wine while watching Lee Yeon-jae & Friends up close felt completely different from my visit with Chacha on a night without a performance. It felt a little sad, and we wanted to enjoy the performance longer, so this time we went with red: Eleventh Hour Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon. Ah, I still don't really know what that name means as I write it—and honestly, it was the wine Mom and my younger brother chose. Kick Ass Jazz Club was even more fun thanks to Lee Yeon-jae & Friends' performance—an almost entirely self-paid review.
