Hello! Today I'm sharing an honest review of Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch, the place I always think of first when stress piles up or I'm craving something spicy and intense — a long-time Yongsan landmark known as the holy grail of spicy tteokbokki (stir-fried rice cake).

If you love tteokbokki, you've probably heard of this place at least once — it's that famous. Even though it had been a while since my last visit, the distinctive atmosphere and unchanged flavor left me completely satisfied.

### 1. Location and exterior

Walking through the alleys near Yongsan Station and Sinyongsan Station, a huge yellow chimney sign catches your eye from far away. The nostalgic retro-style red roof blends with the modern storefront, so it's easy to spot even tucked in an alley. On weekends or during peak hours, there's always a line of waiting customers out front.

### 2. CatchTable and kiosk ordering system

Right at the entrance, a smart CatchTable device greets you. If there's a wait, you enter your phone number and get real-time updates on your queue position via KakaoTalk, so you don't have to stand in line the whole time.

Once seated, ordering is done contactlessly through the in-store kiosk (Toss Payments). The kiosk screen supports foreign languages as well as Korean, which was a nice touch that makes it easy for foreign tourists to order.

### 3. A pleasant interior and induction tables

The interior has high ceilings and feels open, so it never felt cramped, and the bright lighting and lively atmosphere were appealing. Old photos capturing Hyeonseonine's history and memories hang on the walls, giving the place a unique charm.

One especially great feature is the induction burner neatly built into every table. Beyond the regular snack sets, if you order jeuksseok-tteokbokki (freshly simmered tteokbokki), it's thoughtfully set up so you can keep it simmering hot to the last bite and add extra noodles or rice cakes.

### 4. A well-stocked self bar

On one side of the restaurant is a self bar where you can grab the side dishes and utensils you need.

### 5. Trying the hearty 'Hyeonseonine Set'

We ordered the 'Hyeonseonine Set,' which lets you taste all of Hyeonseonine's signature dishes at once — tteokbokki, sundae, fried snacks, mini gimbap, and fish cake — along with a cold Coca-Cola.

Tteokbokki: The chewy rice cakes are deeply coated in a sweet yet sharply spicy sauce that's addictive — you keep reaching for more. The spice level is adjustable, so if you can't handle spicy food, I'd recommend the mild version or half-and-half.

Assorted fried snacks: The crispy fried gimmari (seaweed rolls), mandu (dumplings), vegetables, and sweet potato are savory on their own, and dipping them in the spicy tteokbokki sauce is a fantastic combination.

Sundae and mini gimbap: The sundae (blood sausage) had no off-putting smell and came with a generous serving of liver and organs, while the mini gimbap, fragrant with sesame oil, was perfect topped with a bit of tteokbokki sauce.

Fish cake and drink: Just as the heat starts building, a bite of warm, deeply flavored skewered fish cake broth and a sip of cold soda make for the perfect finish.

## Overall thoughts and visit tips

The clean, modern ordering system, the pleasant and lively store atmosphere, and the unchanging, addictive spiciness all reminded me once again why this has been beloved as one of Yongsan's top restaurants for so long.
