I'd had lunch near Ujangsan and the weather was decent, so I figured I'd grab a coffee to go and take a walk.

But that day, out of nowhere, I got a serious craving for waffles...

While looking for a dessert café nearby, I found The Sweetree — prices looked reasonable and they seemed to have quite a lot of waffle options, so I headed straight over.

I only meant to get coffee, but once I saw the menu board, the waffles were hard to pass up, so I ended up neatly packing up two coffees and a waffle to go.

## Where is The Sweetree? The pink sign by Songhwa Market

The Sweetree is about a 5-minute walk from Exit 4 of Ujangsan Station, near the north gate of Songhwa Market (송화시장). Following the alley inside the market, a pink sign on the corner made it easy enough to spot.

The shop itself is on the small side, but waffle and bingsu (shaved ice dessert) banners at the entrance immediately gave off dessert-café vibes even just passing by.

### Seating and kiosk ordering at The Sweetree

Once inside, it's a small space geared mainly toward takeout and delivery. There's about one table for eating in, plus a 2-seat spot by the window, so sitting down for a bit is possible.

You order at the kiosk, and the display case had baked desserts like financiers on show too.

The space isn't big, but it's just right for browsing the menu while waiting for takeout.

Waffles are the signature dessert here, and there were quite a lot of types — from Belgian plain and almond crunch to blueberry cream cheese, Sinobe brown cheese, and banana choco cream, so picking one to match your mood looked like half the fun. I actually found this place while searching for waffle cafés near Balsan Station, and since they have everything from basic waffles to flashier topped ones, I want to try other flavors next time.

Drinks range from basic coffee like americano to lattes, ades, smoothies, and non-coffee options, so it's easy to pair something with the sweet desserts.

## What I ordered: waffle, americano and latte

On this visit I ordered a 1-liter americano (₩6,800), a café latte (₩5,000), and a choco banana cream waffle (₩6,800)!

The 1-liter americano stood out for its size the moment I got it — plenty for sipping bit by bit on a walk, and the flavor leaned nutty, easy to enjoy without any fuss.

The café latte was noticeably smoother than the americano thanks to the milk, with a faintly creamy feel too. If you prefer a mellow latte over strong coffee, this one's a good match!

### How does the choco banana cream waffle taste?

And the one I was most looking forward to — the choco banana cream waffle! Whipped cream and chocolate syrup piled generously on top, plus a good amount of banana, so it looks pretty sweet right from the start.

On top of that, sugar-coated almond topping, so one bite gives you the crispy waffle, nutty crunchy almonds, and soft whipped cream all at once. The waffle itself was crisp outside and soft inside, so the texture held up well.

The almonds in particular gave it some crunch here and there, so it didn't feel like just a soft, mushy dessert. That said, honestly, the whipped cream plus chocolate combo was a bit sweet for my taste 😋

Still, eating it alongside coffee toned the sweetness down and the combo worked well together. Personally I'd recommend ordering an americano along with a waffle. If you like sweet desserts, you'll probably enjoy it even more.
