Orot Robata is Orot's second location. I got there around 6:10pm on a Saturday, and true to its hot-spot reputation, it was already full!

Luckily I was waiting number 1, so I put my name down and went for a walk along the Gyeongui Line Forest Trail right next door. Perfect spot for a stroll while you wait! Since it's a bar, they warned me the wait could be long, so I'd braced myself — but the call came much sooner than expected, around 6:35, so I hurried back. If you're waiting here, try to stay nearby!!

Stepping inside, the dark black-toned finishes gave off a mood that was both upscale and casual — really striking. One side had a folding door thrown wide open, and the sense of openness plus the cool breeze drifting in felt amazing.

That crisp, cool feeling you only get this time of year..💕 In that moment I felt like I'd found exactly the right sentimental Gyeongui Line Forest Trail bar. Everyone, enjoy this fleeting, lovely season while it lasts🧚‍♀️

We were seated at the bar table, and the staff thoughtfully offered a spot to store our belongings and kindly walked us through ordering via phone NFC, which made everything easy.

## Orot Robata's assorted sashimi: nine kinds of melt-in-your-mouth aged fish

The menu we picked at Orot Robata was the assorted sashimi platter, abalone agemono, and Yebisu draft beer. We started with the assorted sashimi — basically the star of any izakaya — then went back and forth between ankimo bomb-maki and abalone agemono before settling on the abalone agemono.

For a drink to go with it, we chose Yebisu draft! I used to drink Yebisu often from cans, so getting to try it on tap felt like an extra treat.

After a little while, a beautifully plated assorted sashimi arrived.

Sea bream, mullet, Spanish mackerel, two kinds of horse mackerel, steamed abalone, salmon, tuna, and boiled octopus — nine varieties in total, all elegantly arranged.

Chatting away with my partner, we tried a piece at a time — the aging was impressively soft, nearly melting the moment you bit into it, and the slices were cut generously thick, so it was tender yet gave a good, chewy mouthful of flavor.

Personally, the sea bream was the clear winner that day! Chewy yet tender, with a savory richness that builds the more you chew — one bite of sea bream followed by a cold sip of Yebisu draft, and that's a certified great izakaya near Mapo Station.

## Abalone and shiitake agemono at Orot Robata: the fried dish that calls for beer

Next up was the dish I'd deliberated over — abalone agemono. It's crispy-fried abalone with a moist interior, alongside fried shiitake mushrooms stuffed with minced shrimp, all lightly soaked in a special sauce, topped with grated radish and gim (seaweed) flakes.

After soaking it well in the sauce and adding a bit of grated radish, the taste reminded me of a cool, clean Japanese soba — an absolutely perfect pairing for beer. The fried abalone was tender and chewy, bite-sized so it was easy to pop in without any fuss,
