## In short

Vines Pilates Seoul National University Entrance Station branch is a small-group Pilates studio a 2-minute walk from Exit 4 of Seoul National University Entrance Station in Gwanak, Seoul. In a 5:1 reformer group class, the instructor corrected posture down to the writer's toes gripping instead of her soles, working the hamstrings, ankles, hips, abs and back through a full-body routine that left the body feeling loose. Even in a group class, one-on-one attention to each member turned out to be Vines Pilates' biggest strength.

Ever taken a group Pilates class and had this thought creep in?

> Am I actually doing this move right...?

If the instructor doesn't check your form, it's hard to tell whether you're doing it correctly, and sometimes it feels like you're just paying money without really getting anything out of it. This Pilates studio I visited near Seoul National University Entrance Station was a bit different from that worry.

Because each group is so small, the instructor checked everyone's posture individually even though it was a group class. She even noticed from across the room that I was gripping with my toes instead of my soles, and came over to help me relax. That's got to be a hawk eye, right? (˵ •̀ ᴗ - ˵ ) ✧

So today I'm sharing the full story of the group Pilates class I took at Vines Pilates in Dongjak — wait, Gwanak. (Price list attached at the end.)

Vines Pilates is just a 2-minute walk from Exit 4 of Seoul National University Entrance Station. Having come via Line 2, being this close to the station alone made things so easy for me.

From the entrance, you just go down one floor and the studio is right there.

## What was the vibe inside the studio like?

![Neatly organized interior of the Pilates studio](https://img.superchart.com/images/vines-pilates-snu-station-group-lesson/vines-pilates-snu-station-group-lesson-08-idmag-900.webp)

The first thing I noticed walking in was how clean and upscale the atmosphere felt. Some Pilates studios aren't well kept, but this one felt calm and orderly all around.

### Locker room and shower room

![Spacious, well-kept locker room at the Pilates studio](https://img.superchart.com/images/vines-pilates-snu-station-group-lesson/vines-pilates-snu-station-group-lesson-10-n5uar-900.webp)

The spacious locker room was kept comfortably clean. When I go work out somewhere, the locker room actually matters a lot to me.

![Amenities provided in the locker room](https://img.superchart.com/images/vines-pilates-snu-station-group-lesson/vines-pilates-snu-station-group-lesson-12-13qpl-900.webp)

Vines had thoughtful little items on hand, and the shower room even had cleansing products, so it was convenient not having to bring my own.

## How are the group rooms divided?

The 5:1 group classes are split between the Chair & Barrel room and the Reformer room, apparently. Since it's a small-group class, the equipment is set up according to the number of members too. I took the reformer class that day.

## What the 5:1 reformer group class was actually like

I took my class in the group lesson room. It was a reformer session that day, and it suited me really well since I sit for long stretches. We stretched out the hamstrings, ankles, and hips to build lengthening strength, then moved into abs, back muscles, and even rotational movements!

Rather than focusing on just one area, it felt like the whole body was being worked and the stiffness released all over, so after sitting for so long, my body felt refreshingly loose once the class ended.

## Wait, you get this much posture correction in a group class?

![Instructor correcting a member's posture during group class](https://img.superchart.com/images/vines-pilates-snu-station-group-lesson/vines-pilates-snu-station-group-lesson-14-1b6ow-900.webp)

Honestly, this was the part I loved the most. Whenever I second-guessed myself mid-move and thought

is this the right posture?, the instructor would notice and come fix it. And what really surprised me was that from across the room, she caught that I was pressing with my toes instead of my soles!

![Following along with a move on the reformer](https://img.superchart.com/images/vines-pilates-snu-station-group-lesson/vines-pilates-snu-station-group-lesson-15-mkqd4-900.webp)

Just changing my posture slightly made the muscle engagement feel completely different — I could actually feel, oh, this is what proper form feels like. And at one point during the workout my body was shaking like a tiller, haha, seriously trembling nonstop. She explained that can happen when the muscles aren't stabilized yet. By the later part of class the shaking eased up, and I felt proud that I was keeping up, haha.

## How did my body feel after class?

![Inside the studio after class ended](https://img.superchart.com/images/vines-pilates-snu-station-group-lesson/vines-pilates-snu-station-group-lesson-17-10rne-900.webp)

By the end of class I was drenched in sweat. But strangely it didn't just feel exhausting. My whole body felt reset and light! When you sit for long periods your posture keeps getting worse, so it's great to keep doing a workout that stretches you out and gets you using your body properly, haha.

![Post-workout photo after the Pilates class](https://img.superchart.com/images/vines-pilates-snu-station-group-lesson/vines-pilates-snu-station-group-lesson-18-1dksz-m-900.webp)
*The post-workout photos turn out pretty well too, haha*

Above all, because the instructor watched my form so closely that day, I was able to focus even more on the workout.

## There's a cardio zone inside the studio too

![Cardio equipment inside the studio's cardio zone](https://img.superchart.com/images/vines-pilates-snu-station-group-lesson/vines-pilates-snu-station-group-lesson-19-2slua-900.webp)

And what surprised me was the cardio zone. It's not just Pilates and done — you can do cardio right there in the studio too. You don't find that everywhere! When just working your muscles feels 2% lacking, you can hop straight on the stair climber. Nice, haha.

## A space to rest before and after your workout

![A rest area for before and after workouts](https://img.superchart.com/images/vines-pilates-snu-station-group-lesson/vines-pilates-snu-station-group-lesson-20-zoyl7-900.webp)

![Snack corner with green tea, coffee, and cookies](https://img.superchart.com/images/vines-pilates-snu-station-group-lesson/vines-pilates-snu-station-group-lesson-21-1nkt8-900.webp)

One corner of the studio has a small snack area. Green tea, a water dispenser, cookies, and coffee — all the things wellness folks love these days — were ready for a quick rest after class. These little touches made it feel like the studio genuinely cares about members using the space, which I liked.

## There are two types of group classes at Vines

![Information on how group classes are run](https://img.superchart.com/images/vines-pilates-snu-station-group-lesson/vines-pilates-snu-station-group-lesson-22-1bc1n-900.webp)

![Information on the booking system versus fixed-instructor program](https://img.superchart.com/images/vines-pilates-snu-station-group-lesson/vines-pilates-snu-station-group-lesson-23-1ix3c-900.webp)

From here on, a bit more detail I picked up from actually visiting. Vines Pilates' group classes split into a regular app-booking system and a fixed-instructor system. If you're like me and just want to lightly try out a few different classes, the booking system where you pick whatever class you want works fine, but if your goal is posture correction or consistent long-term management, the fixed-instructor system seemed like a better fit.

### What makes the fixed-instructor system different?

![Information on the fixed-instructor chart management program](https://img.superchart.com/images/vines-pilates-snu-station-group-lesson/vines-pilates-snu-station-group-lesson-24-1qdsq-900.webp)

In the fixed-instructor system, one instructor is responsible for a fixed group of 5 members. It's apparently a chart-based management program where you set monthly goals and get weekly feedback. So it's not just

take today's class and done, it's closer to an ongoing system for managing how your body should be trained. That kind of training sounds pretty great, doesn't it?

Members on the fixed-instructor plan reportedly receive a detailed fitness assessment, next month's goals, and notes on which areas need strengthening, so if you want systematic management, this seemed worthwhile. Also, one perk at Vines is that after taking a private lesson, you can continue with a group class from the same instructor.

- Anyone looking for Pilates near Seoul National University Entrance Station and weighing a group class

## Overall verdict: what's Vines' biggest strength?

For me, the biggest takeaway was

wait, this much attention in a group class? Especially the moment I unconsciously tensed my shoulders even slightly and she immediately called my name to tell me to relax them — that's a real hawk eye ( ˵ •̀ ᴗ - ˵ ) ✧

I'm planning to keep working out at Vines going forward and record how my posture and movement change over time. I'm curious myself how my body will change after a few more sessions..ෆ
