## In short

Jjigaen Jjukkumi Yongmun Market Branch is a spicy griddle-cooked octopus (jjukkumi) restaurant tucked inside Yongmun Market in Yongsan, Seoul. The order here was the spicy octopus with pork belly for two, eaten with ssam wraps and finished with cheese fried rice, and the mix of heat and nutty richness was satisfying. Jjigaen Jjukkumi is worth a stop near Yongmun Market on a day when you want a spicy lunch or dinner.

I was around Yongsan and got a craving for something spicy, so I stopped by Jjigaen Jjukkumi Yongmun Market Branch (찌갠쭈꾸미 용산용문시장점)!

## Spicy octopus with pork belly for two, cooked on the griddle

What we ordered was the spicy octopus with pork belly for two! I thought about just getting octopus, but figured octopus really needs pork belly alongside it, so we ordered that — and to cut to the conclusion, sharing that combo between the two of us was really good. The octopus and pork belly come out on a hot plate fully coated in red sauce, and just the look of it was spicy enough to get my appetite going. The octopus wasn't too tough — it had a nice plump, chewy texture — and the sweet-spicy sauce was soaked in pretty deeply. The pork belly got stir-fried together with the octopus sauce, picking up a savory richness, making it feel a lot more filling than eating octopus alone!

When the spicy sauce mixes with the savory fat from the pork belly, it's the kind of flavor that keeps you reaching for more. The spice level itself wasn't just harshly hot — it leaned more toward tastefully spicy, so it was easy to eat without feeling overwhelmed. If you like spicy food, you'll definitely enjoy this!

It's located inside Yongmun Market, and if you like octopus, it's worth visiting at least once. I was especially curious because this place was also featured on Amazing Saturday (놀라운토요일). After some back and forth, we went with the spicy octopus with pork belly for two so we could have both. And since we came for hot-plate food, we couldn't skip the fried rice — so at the end we thoroughly finished off some cheese fried rice too haha.

## Does it taste better in ssam wraps with pickled radish and bean sprouts?

Eating it with the basic side dishes gives a different feel. The spicy octopus with pork belly is great on its own, but pairing it with things like pickled radish or bean sprouts mellows out the spiciness a bit and adds a crunchy texture that goes really well together. Personally, picking up one piece of octopus and one piece of pork belly together and eating them in one bite was the best haha. If you're looking for spicy octopus in Yongsan, I'd recommend the spicy octopus with pork belly menu.

Overall, the combination of spicy octopus and savory pork belly was great, and the finishing cheese fried rice was satisfying too. It's a good place to go when you're craving something spicy for lunch or dinner near Yongmun Market! If you're specifically looking for spicy octopus near Yongmun Market in Yongsan, I'd recommend trying the spicy octopus with pork belly plus cheese fried rice combo at Jjigaen Jjukkumi.

## Finishing with cheese fried rice on the griddle

And now for the grand finale. If you eat hot-plate food and skip the fried rice, it feels like you left without finishing the meal, right haha. Instead of regular fried rice, we ordered the cheese fried rice. The rice gets stir-fried in the leftover spicy octopus sauce, and once cheese is added on top, this combo is nearly impossible to make bad!!!!!!!!! The sauce soaks into every grain of rice, so it's salty and spicy, but with the cheese added it becomes much more savory and soft. Scraping up the bits that got slightly crisped onto the hot plate was seriously delicious. Even though we were already pretty full from the spicy octopus with pork belly, the cheese fried rice kept going in — such a strange phenomenon haha. Personally, if you're going for octopus, I'd definitely recommend getting the fried rice too!
