From the name alone, it sounds like an udon specialty restaurant, but the actual menu has quite a range of things that go well with drinks: fish cake udon, handmade tangsuyuk (sweet-and-sour fried pork), seriously delicious Kkang chicken feet, Kkang gangjeong, dumplings, and more. Especially since you can pair hot broth with fried dishes, it looked like a solid option not only for the first round but also when looking for a second bar in Bangi-dong. With mostly round tables and simple chairs, it feels more like a casual place to eat and drink than somewhere for a formal meal. The scribbles covering the walls also seem to create Kkang Udong’s distinctive vibe, and that atmosphere makes it feel especially fitting for a second round after searching for a good spot in Bangi-dong’s dining alley. I visited around 5 p.m.??? and could already see groups of customers coming in, plus quite a few people who had been drinking since broad daylight. It has suddenly gotten cold lately, with quite a big swing between day and night temperatures, so how could I resist udon loaded with large fish cakes, yubu (fried tofu pouch), crown daisy, and scallions, with seasoning piled in the middle? The noodles were thicker than expected too, making them easy to slurp up with the broth. More than anything, there’s hot broth at a drinking table. The savory flavor from the fish cakes and the nutty taste of the yubu come together, making this the kind of dish you keep reaching for without any burden. Forget Chinese restaurants; at ₩18,000, it already looks different from the usual Chinese restaurant tangsuyuk, right? It is crispy fried meat topped generously with onions, then lightly finished with sauce and nuts. The coating is crisp while the meat stays moist, and eating it with raw onion cuts the richness, so it goes wonderfully with drinks. The sweet sauce and crunchy onion texture make it something you just keep eating. You have to order it! A sip of hot udon broth, one piece of tangsuyuk, then beer was a pretty great combination. The pocha-like atmosphere is comfortable too, so it is especially suited to having a drink with friends or looking for a second-round spot rather than making a big meal of it. If you are looking for a good restaurant in Bangi-dong or in Bangi-dong’s dining alley, I would try the fish cake udon and handmade tangsuyuk combination at least once. It is easy to reach from Jamsil too, so I would also recommend it to anyone looking for a bar near Jamsil.
