## In short

Samsin Garosu-gil is a fusion Chinese restaurant near Sinsa Station in Gangnam, Seoul. I tried handmade shrimp har gow, Tokyo tangsuyuk, tebannaka meat jjamppong, and xiaolongbao in its richly atmospheric space. Verdict: a memorable pick for an unusual Chinese meal and a moodier dinner date.

At first, I visited thinking it would simply be one of those nice Chinese restaurants near Sinsa Station—but as I looked through the dishes one by one during the meal, it turned out to be dim sum heaven, my favorite~

## Chinese food crossing Korean and Japanese borders

It is clearly Chinese food at its foundation, but it naturally draws in Korean ingredients and familiar flavors, plus Japanese cooking methods and plating. Come with me into today’s world of fusion dining~

## A two-floor space near Sinsa Station

It is at 46 Gangnam-daero 156-gil in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, and occupies the second and third floors~ It is also quite close to Sinsa Station, so I think it is easy to set as a meeting spot.

Rather than being a Chinese restaurant styled only in a clean modern way, the interior makes quite active use of Eastern-style decorations and a weighty atmosphere.

Even with its glamorous elements, it did not feel cluttered overall, and I thought it would suit occasions that call for a little ambiance, too.

And after being shown to our table, there was one detail that quietly made me happy: the table setting~ The golden spoons laid out on the table caught my eye right away. Even before the food arrived, it felt as though the tableware and space had already created one cohesive mood. っ˘ڡ˘ς

There were lots of diners inside as well—company dinner groups, family gatherings, friends’ get-togethers, important occasions~ I liked that the space could be used in different ways while still making it feel as if it were just the two of you.

## The fusion direction on the menu

What makes Samsin Garosu-gil (삼신 가로수길점) interesting is that, though it is Chinese food, it does not stop at Chinese food. Looking at the menu makes the restaurant’s identity even clearer.

![Korean-Chinese-Japanese fusion Chinese menu](https://img.superchart.com/images/sinsa-fusion-dim-sum-samsin/sinsa-fusion-dim-sum-samsin-09-194gi-900.webp)

For example, the Samsin Special Korean-Chinese-Japanese cold platter brings together salmon, scallop, shrimp, abalone, century egg, and even yukhoe (Korean beef tartare). It presents ingredients familiar in Korean and Japanese cooking on a single plate within the format of a Chinese cold platter. And that is not all.

There is crisp gat kimchi (mustard-leaf kimchi) menbosha to cut the richness of the shrimp toast, made with Jeolla-do gat kimchi; truffle 1++ Korean beef hambak wans, a Korean-style reinterpretation of Chinese meatballs; mapo omelet rice combining Chinese mapo tofu and a Japanese omelet; and tendon kimchi fried rice, which pairs tendon with kimchi fried rice. Just reading the menu names makes Samsin’s direction easy to understand. (So many things made me curious—I was happily torn over what to choose.) The menu itself was really fun to browse.

## Handmade shrimp har gow and Tokyo tangsuyuk

So, what did we order?

Now it was time to really dig in~ The lovely, bouncy first course was handmade shrimp har gow. Har gow is a shrimp dim sum that I really, really love.

The moment you can slightly see those plump shrimp fillings through the translucent wrapper, it already gets a big stamp of approval in my heart. Samsin’s handmade shrimp har gow has a clear, chewy wrapper packed full of shrimp~ Take a bite and the outside is chewy with a little springiness, while the bouncy shrimp pops inside.

It did not come on too strong from the very start; it gently woke up my appetite, which made it such a great first dish.

But beside me, something was bubbling away... burbling away... Tokyo tangsuyuk was making its presence known from a hot earthenware pot! I mean, how could you not eat it when it is bubbling like that? This is said to be a fusion dish that pays homage to “Tokyo steak,” adding a Japanese sensibility to traditional Chinese tangsuyuk (sweet-and-sour fried meat).

![Tokyo tangsuyuk with a Japanese-inspired touch](https://img.superchart.com/images/sinsa-fusion-dim-sum-samsin/sinsa-fusion-dim-sum-samsin-14-f27np-900.webp)

Perhaps because of that, it was a little different from the sweet-and-sour tangsuyuk we usually know. Right from the first taste, a deeply nutty, abundant aroma spread through my mouth. I almost thought, “Huh...? Is this cheese?” It had a slightly rich, seductive flavor, if that makes sense? It felt like another layer of nuttiness and substantial flavor had been built in.

Even though the hot sauce clung tightly to the meat, the coating did not disappear completely; when you bite in, the flavor bursts out with the moist meat inside... Ah, this is dangerous. I kept reaching for more.

## The deep smoky heat of tebannaka meat jjamppong

Finally, it arrived! Tebannaka meat jjamppong. Fried chicken wings piled generously on top of jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup)! Tebannaka is Japanese for the middle section of a chicken wing~ That deep flame-grilled flavor totally captured my taste buds~

![Tebannaka meat jjamppong topped with fried chicken wings](https://img.superchart.com/images/sinsa-fusion-dim-sum-samsin/sinsa-fusion-dim-sum-samsin-15-1fa95-900.webp)

It was not simply a hot, peppery broth. The deep umami of meat stock formed the base, then smoky wok flavor and spice rose up layer by layer. Samsin seems to enjoy connecting flavors from different countries within one familiar dish.

## Handmade xiaolongbao, enjoyed carefully

And here came a dish I can never simply pass by when I see it at a Chinese restaurant! Handmade xiaolongbao, too.

You all know you should not rush into xiaolongbao, right? Carefully open the wrapper a little, and the warm juices gathered inside reveal themselves. Past the thin, soft wrapper comes moist meat filling, and the warm, rich juices coat your entire mouth—it was an incredibly comforting flavor.

If har gow has that fresh, bouncy charm unique to shrimp, xiaolongbao is definitely a little warmer and richer in flavor.

## Next time, the lunch course

I heard that lunch also has a course where you can enjoy soup, dim sum, tangsuyuk, noodle dishes, dessert, and more together, so next time I plan to visit a little more leisurely and enjoy every part of it properly.

If you want to experience something a little different from the usual Chinese food near Sinsa Station, or are looking for a Chinese restaurant near Sinsa Station with atmosphere as well, Samsin Garosu-gil is one to remember.
