I had errands to run around Hongdae and Hapjeong, so a friend and I ended up at Champpoppo Jjokgalbi Hapjeong Branch. It was my first time trying jjokgalbi (pork rib) outside of home, and the set menu was such good value with such a variety of food that I left really satisfied. It's a 6-minute walk from Hapjeong Station and a 6-minute walk from Sangsu Station — right in between the two.

## Can you get a table on a weekday night at Champpoppo Jjokgalbi?

Here's a look inside this jjokgalbi hotspot near Sangsu Station. When we walked in, there was exactly one table free — the place was packed. Even on a weekday evening, it was full of everything from two-person dinners to large group gatherings.

The interior is spacious with a variety of table setups, so staff told us it's suitable for group gatherings and private bookings too.

## What's on the menu at Champpoppo Jjokgalbi Hapjeong

Here's the menu at Champpoppo Jjokgalbi, a jjokgalbi favorite near Hapjeong Station.

![Menu board at Champpoppo Jjokgalbi Hapjeong Branch](https://img.superchart.com/images/chambbobbo-jokgalbi-hapjeong-corkage/chambbobbo-jokgalbi-hapjeong-corkage-04-d32fg-900.webp)

The signature is the jjokgalbi, and there's a wide range of set menus too. Interestingly, they even sell cream pasta.

Besides jjokgalbi, there were good drinking-snack meat options too, like galmaegisal (pork skirt steak), pork skin, and chicken feet.

![Menu board listing galmaegisal, pork skin, chicken feet, and other meat dishes](https://img.superchart.com/images/chambbobbo-jokgalbi-hapjeong-corkage/chambbobbo-jokgalbi-hapjeong-corkage-07-141i5-900.webp)

There was also a wide variety of sides — steamed egg, stew, ramen, drunken rice — lots of menu items that pair well with meat.

They also serve highballs alongside the drinks menu. Corkage is available too (₩10,000 per bottle), so if you're looking for a corkage-friendly BBQ spot near Hongdae, I'd recommend this one.

## Free side dishes that go as far as chicken porridge

![Basic side dish spread at Champpoppo Jjokgalbi](https://img.superchart.com/images/chambbobbo-jokgalbi-hapjeong-corkage/chambbobbo-jokgalbi-hapjeong-corkage-09-20igs-900.webp)

![Complimentary pork skin and potatoes](https://img.superchart.com/images/chambbobbo-jokgalbi-hapjeong-corkage/chambbobbo-jokgalbi-hapjeong-corkage-10-1m7f4-900.webp)

![Chicken porridge served as a basic side](https://img.superchart.com/images/chambbobbo-jokgalbi-hapjeong-corkage/chambbobbo-jokgalbi-hapjeong-corkage-11-12dq6-900.webp)

I was surprised by how many side dishes came as the basic spread. We got pickled onions, cabbage salad, corn cheese, pork skin, potatoes, and even chicken porridge. This was the first place I've been to that serves chicken porridge as a basic item — it was so warming and nice. Even the pork skin and potatoes, though just complimentary sides, were incredibly chewy and delicious. They went really well with the curry powder served alongside.

## Ordering the Chiletan Set: 2 soy, 1 sauce (mild)

![Table spread for the Chiletan Set](https://img.superchart.com/images/chambbobbo-jokgalbi-hapjeong-corkage/chambbobbo-jokgalbi-hapjeong-corkage-12-1y5dg-900.webp)

For the Chiletan Set's jjokgalbi, you can choose soy or sauce and the spice level, so we went with 2 soy and 1 sauce (mild).

![Chiletan rice ball topped with cartilage and flying fish roe](https://img.superchart.com/images/chambbobbo-jokgalbi-hapjeong-corkage/chambbobbo-jokgalbi-hapjeong-corkage-13-mx1io-900.webp)

![Cheese-bomb steamed egg topped with cheese](https://img.superchart.com/images/chambbobbo-jokgalbi-hapjeong-corkage/chambbobbo-jokgalbi-hapjeong-corkage-14-tbcf6-900.webp)

This is the chiletan rice ball and the cheese-bomb steamed egg. The rice ball had spicy odolppyeo (crunchy cartilage) and flying fish roe on top, so mixing it together gave a nice chewy texture and great flavor. The cheese-bomb steamed egg really lived up to its name — the seasoning was just right, and the melted cheese on top was a delicious touch. It balanced out the sauce-marinated ribs nicely.

![Pre-cooked soy jjokgalbi on the grill](https://img.superchart.com/images/chambbobbo-jokgalbi-hapjeong-corkage/chambbobbo-jokgalbi-hapjeong-corkage-15-1m3bh-900.webp)

![Soy jjokgalbi grilled and cut into pieces](https://img.superchart.com/images/chambbobbo-jokgalbi-hapjeong-corkage/chambbobbo-jokgalbi-hapjeong-corkage-16-1wfq6-900.webp)

### Soy jjokgalbi: pre-grilled, so 1 minute plus 30 seconds

This is the soy sauce jjokgalbi. It comes pre-cooked, which made things convenient. They told us to grill it bone-side down for 1 minute, then flip and grill for another 30 seconds. It cooked quickly and we cut it up to eat — the soy sauce wasn't too salty, just sweet enough, and really tasty. It paired well with the rice ball too, and the meat was tender.

![Mild sauce jjokgalbi](https://img.superchart.com/images/chambbobbo-jokgalbi-hapjeong-corkage/chambbobbo-jokgalbi-hapjeong-corkage-17-1tdjr-900.webp)

![Sauce jjokgalbi eaten with corn cheese](https://img.superchart.com/images/chambbobbo-jokgalbi-hapjeong-corkage/chambbobbo-jokgalbi-hapjeong-corkage-18-gldsj-900.webp)

### Sauce jjokgalbi (mild) and its charcoal aroma

This is the sauce-marinated jjokgalbi (mild). We deliberately went mild, and it wasn't spicy at all — just the right amount of sweetness with a nice sauce flavor and charcoal aroma. Dipped in the complimentary corn cheese or eaten with the rice ball, it wasn't too salty and paired really well.

## Why the soondubu-yeolramen is a must-order

![Soondubu-yeolramen at Champpoppo Jjokgalbi](https://img.superchart.com/images/chambbobbo-jokgalbi-hapjeong-corkage/chambbobbo-jokgalbi-hapjeong-corkage-19-5gxvi-900.webp)

We ordered the soondubu-yeolramen (soft tofu spicy ramen) separately, though it's also something you can get through review events or Naver reservations. I honestly ordered it without much thought, figuring it'd be good with the rice ball, but I was shocked at how genuinely delicious it was. The savory depth was intense, and it paired perfectly with the rice ball. My friend also said the soondubu-yeolramen was really good. This is genuinely the number-one must-order item.

## Adding whole grilled galmaegisal (pork skirt meat)

After finishing the jjokgalbi, we also ordered the galmaegisal (pork skirt steak) as an add-on.

![Additional order of galmaegisal](https://img.superchart.com/images/chambbobbo-jokgalbi-hapjeong-corkage/chambbobbo-jokgalbi-hapjeong-corkage-20-jhpct-900.webp)

![Galmaegisal on the grill](https://img.superchart.com/images/chambbobbo-jokgalbi-hapjeong-corkage/chambbobbo-jokgalbi-hapjeong-corkage-21-l364r-900.webp)

I don't really have memories of eating galmaegisal properly before, so I was curious and ordered it. It was pre-seasoned with pepper, and grilling it and dipping it in salt gave it a nutty, really delicious flavor. We weren't drinking that day, but it seemed like it would pair perfectly with soju.

![Grilled galmaegisal pieces](https://img.superchart.com/images/chambbobbo-jokgalbi-hapjeong-corkage/chambbobbo-jokgalbi-hapjeong-corkage-22-1wmu0-900.webp)

![Galmaegisal dipped in salt](https://img.superchart.com/images/chambbobbo-jokgalbi-hapjeong-corkage/chambbobbo-jokgalbi-hapjeong-corkage-23-ipvms-900.webp)

I had thought of this place purely as a jjokgalbi spot, so I wasn't expecting much, but the galmaegisal turned out to be really delicious too.

## The verdict on Champpoppo Jjokgalbi Hapjeong

From the basic spread to the set menu, everything was so varied and generous that I left completely full. The place is spacious, so it's great for group gatherings, the meat was tender, and the food overall was delicious. If you're looking for a jjokgalbi spot around Hongdae and Hapjeong, I'd recommend Champpoppo Jjokgalbi Hapjeong Branch.
