## In short

Gamgol Yeontan-jip Seonyudo Station Branch is a retro Korean BBQ restaurant in Yeongdeungpo, Seoul, where Korean pork is grilled over real charcoal briquettes. I tried limited Seolhwa Kkodeulsal, pork belly, gochujang bulgogi, Odol Galbi, flat spicy noodles, stew, and charcoal-shaped fried rice. Verdict: a fun choice for a group meal with both good pork and plenty to photograph.

When you look for good restaurants around Dangsan Station or Seonyudo Station, an incredible number of samgyeopsal and pork specialists come up. Among them, I visited a Dangsan-area Korean BBQ restaurant with a very distinct personality, from its atmosphere to the way it grills its meat: Gamgol Yeontan-jip Seonyudo Station Branch. Located between Seonyudo and Dangsan stations, it grills Korean pork over real charcoal briquettes. From the green sign and floral chairs to old posters, coolers, and even the cutlery, everything had a retro feel, so there was plenty to look at throughout the meal.

This is what we ordered that day.

- Korean pork Seolhwa Kkodeulsal
- Charcoal king salt pork belly
- Gochujang charcoal bulgogi
- Korean pork Odol Galbi
- Mrs. Im So-young's doenjang-jjigae (soybean-paste stew)
- Cubed charcoal fried rice
- Flat spicy mixed noodles

Since different cuts suit different grill plates, we ate them in this order: Seolhwa Kkodeulsal, charcoal king salt pork belly, gochujang charcoal bulgogi, then Odol Galbi.

## Location and group-dining details between Seonyudo and Dangsan stations

Gamgol Yeontan-jip Seonyudo Station Branch is on the first floor at 15 Seonyu-ro 49-gil, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul. It is a little closer to Seonyudo Station, but still walkable from Dangsan Station, so it is easy enough to reach from either. If you are using public transit, coming from Seonyudo Station is slightly more convenient.

According to the restaurant, Naver reservations are available and group seating for up to 16 people can be booked. With several tables connected together, it looked well suited to a company dinner near Dangsan or Seonyudo stations. Parking is listed as paid rather than dedicated free parking. If you are driving, it is best to ask the restaurant first or check the hours and rates at nearby public parking lots.

## Retro details from the moment you walk in

My first impression was that Gamgol Yeontan-jip is seriously committed to its retro concept. Green-and-wood-toned walls, sliding doors you might have seen in an old family home, floral chair covers, and handwritten notices all carried the same mood through the space.

The little props were especially fun to browse. I did not drink, but the old cooler keeping alcohol chilled caught my eye, and even the spoons and chopsticks had floral patterns. Plenty of retro Korean BBQ restaurants stop at an old-fashioned sign or wallpaper, but Gamgol Yeontan-jip carried the concept through to the tableware, tissue holder, and chair covers. It was great for taking photos during the meal, so I think it could also make a fun Seonyudo or Dangsan date stop.

## A brand created by a chef son and his mother

The restaurant introduction says Gamgol Yeontan-jip was created by a son who trained at Le Cordon Bleu and his mother, born in 1968. It also introduces the chef and culinary researcher as the person who planned the brand and participated in menu development. The family story naturally carries into dishes such as “Mrs. Im So-young's doenjang-jjigae,” named for the mother, and that felt like a distinctive touch of this Korean BBQ restaurant.

There was also a notice in the women's restroom saying that conveniences such as hand cream, mouthwash, and hair ties were available. It showed care not only for the food and decor, but also for the space guests spend time in.

## Real charcoal briquettes and the clean-charcoal notice

Real charcoal briquettes sit inside each table, with a grill plate chosen for the particular meat placed on top. Seeing the red-hot briquettes up close was both unusual and fun—something that is not easy to encounter at Korean BBQ restaurants these days. A notice in the restaurant said it is a certified clean-charcoal establishment, using patented clean charcoal with no hydrogen sulfide.

## Menu at the time of my visit

These were the main menu prices at the time.

## The order we grilled the meats

Since we ordered several meats, they arrived together in separate earthenware bowls. Some dishes required a different grill plate, so we ate them in the following order as guided by the staff.

> Seolhwa Kkodeulsal → charcoal king salt pork belly → gochujang charcoal bulgogi → Odol Galbi

Starting with unseasoned meat before moving on to gochujang bulgogi and Odol Galbi kept the flavors from mixing, and let us notice each menu's texture and character in turn. If you plan to try several dishes, I recommend asking about the grilling order and when the plate will be changed when you order.

## Limited-quantity Seolhwa Kkodeulsal

The first dish was Korean pork Seolhwa Kkodeulsal, a special cut marked as available in limited quantities each day. True to its name, it had a pleasantly springy, chewy texture without being overly tough, along with a nice nutty flavor.

![Limited-quantity Seolhwa Kkodeulsal](https://img.superchart.com/images/seonyudo-charcoal-retro-pork/seonyudo-charcoal-retro-pork-16-chdrd-966.webp)

As the surface browned over the charcoal, it picked up a subtle smoky aroma. Because it was unseasoned, it was easy to start with, and its texture was one of the most memorable things I ate that day. Quantities are limited, so if Seolhwa Kkodeulsal is a must, it would be wise to reserve or check availability before visiting.

## Rich charcoal king salt pork belly

Next, we put the charcoal king salt pork belly on the grill. The restaurant says that its gochujang charcoal bulgogi and king salt pork belly are aged in earthenware for 1,440 minutes. As the pork belly cooked over charcoal, the fat melted richly and the surface turned golden. Even without a special seasoning, the pork's savory flavor came through clearly, and it was clean with no off smell, so I kept reaching for it.

Grilling kimchi and green onion kimchi alongside it naturally cut through the richness of the pork belly. The aging seemed to improve both the texture and flavor along with the meatiness, making this the safest, easiest dish to begin with if you are looking for pork belly near Seonyudo or Dangsan stations.

## Gochujang charcoal bulgogi with smoke and seasoning

After the pork belly, we changed the grill plate and cooked the gochujang charcoal bulgogi. Since seasoned meat can burn easily over high heat, it was best to turn it often. The edges developed a lightly caramelized seasoning while the inside stayed moist, really showing off the combination of charcoal heat and gochujang seasoning.

The sweet-spicy seasoning had soaked into the meat without becoming overly heavy. It would go well with rice, and it also seemed like a good choice as a drinking snack.

## Odol Galbi with a definite crunch

The last meat was Korean pork Odol Galbi. Its crisp, cartilage-like chew was different from the Kkodeulsal, so it still had a very clear character after several meats. The more I chewed, the more savory seasoning came through, with charcoal aroma on top, making it a good final dish. If you prefer chew over tender meat and enjoy smoky flavor, Odol Galbi is worth ordering too.

## Flat spicy noodles that pair well with meat

The most distinctive side dish was the flat spicy mixed noodles.

![Flat spicy noodles topped with vegetables](https://img.superchart.com/images/seonyudo-charcoal-retro-pork/seonyudo-charcoal-retro-pork-19-1p087-966.webp)

Wide, flat noodles were coated in tangy, spicy seasoning and piled with vegetables. Rather than eating the noodles alone, my favorite combination was wrapping meat and the flat noodles together in lettuce. They freshened up the rich fat of the pork belly, while making the gochujang charcoal bulgogi taste even more layered and spicy. If you order several types of meat, they are also great for changing up your palate between bites. Unlike the naengmyeon (cold noodles) commonly found at Korean BBQ restaurants near Seonyudo Station, this felt like a very Gamgol Yeontan-jip-specific dish.

## Mrs. Im So-young's doenjang-jjigae

We also ordered Mrs. Im So-young's doenjang-jjigae because we wanted a warm soup with the meat. It arrived bubbling in a large ttukbaegi (earthenware pot), so it stayed warm throughout the meal. There was plenty of tofu and vegetables, and the deeply savory, gently spicy broth paired well with the meat. Its family-story menu name also suited the restaurant's retro atmosphere. With the fried rice, it is a satisfying way to finish a meal.

## Cubed charcoal fried rice shaped like a briquette

We finished with the cubed charcoal fried rice. The combination was good, but its appearance was fun from the start: it looked like a real charcoal briquette with several holes. A fried egg, bracken fern, and cheese came alongside it, making the presentation quite generous.

![Charcoal fried rice with egg and cheese](https://img.superchart.com/images/seonyudo-charcoal-retro-pork/seonyudo-charcoal-retro-pork-21-1tute-966.webp)

Cubed meat in the fried rice added a nice bite, and mixing in the runny egg yolk made it softer and richer. It was not just a dish made for photos; its seasoning was not overpowering, so it worked well as a proper meal alongside the meat and doenjang-jjigae. I was impressed that the retro concept continued beyond the interior and into the food's shape.

## More fun details, from events to drinks

The walls displayed various notices for review events, the “Hongsidan” fan club, and a monthly event on the 25th. At the time of my visit, the notices said a review would earn charcoal-grilled dried filefish, while joining Hongsidan came with a keyring. Event details and gifts may change, so check the in-store notices when you visit.

I did not drink, but there was a wide range of alcohol, including regional soju, highballs, and somaek options. The retro cooler and old liquor crates near the table felt like part of the atmosphere, and were fun to look at. With a varied selection of meat and drinking snacks, it seemed like a place where you could carry the mood from a first round into a second round, making it a good option for a group dinner near Seonyudo or Dangsan stations.

## Days I would recommend it for

- When you are looking for Korean BBQ near Dangsan or Seonyudo Station
- When you need a Dangsan or Seonyudo group-dinner venue
- When you want a retro atmosphere different from an ordinary pork belly restaurant
- When you enjoy the fun of grilling directly over charcoal briquettes
- When you are looking for a photo-friendly Dangsan date course

## Both good meat and a fun space

Gamgol Yeontan-jip Seonyudo Station Branch was a great Dangsan-area restaurant for both the meat and the fun of the space. From the springy texture of Seolhwa Kkodeulsal and the richness of king salt pork belly to the seasoning and smoke of gochujang charcoal bulgogi and the crisp chew of Odol Galbi, each dish had a distinct personality. The flat spicy noodles, Mrs. Im So-young's doenjang-jjigae, and cubed charcoal fried rice were also easy additions between the meats.

More than anything, I remembered how carefully the retro feel carried through—from the exterior to the chairs, cutlery, cooler, and even the menu names. It was not simply a Korean BBQ restaurant where you eat and leave, but a good Seonyudo Station spot with things to look around at and photograph. If you are looking for somewhere different from your usual Korean BBQ restaurant around Dangsan Station, Gamgol Yeontan-jip Seonyudo Station Branch is worth adding to your list.

Hours, prices, reservation capacity, and events may change, so please check Naver Map or contact the restaurant before visiting.
