## In short

Furato Shokudo Seoul Square Direct Store is a Japanese gyukatsu restaurant on basement level 1 of the Seoul Square building, right outside Exit 9 of Seoul Station in Jung-gu, Seoul. The writer ordered gyukatsu at 19,500 won and the steki set at 19,500 won, grilled both on a single tabletop hearth with butter added, and found the dining room wide enough that plenty of guests were eating alone. A solid choice when you have time before a KTX departure and want to skip the crowded Seoul Station food court.

Today was a bit of a special discovery for me haha

Every time I've taken the KTX from Seoul back to my hometown, I've felt like there wasn't a decent place to grab lunch near Seoul Station. So I always ended up eating somewhere in that insanely crowded part of Seoul Station before heading off 😭 To think a place like this existed nearby...

## How to find Furato Shokudo Seoul Square from Seoul Station Exit 9

I finally found a decent Japanese restaurant near Seoul Station to eat at before catching the KTX! The place I visited is ✅️ Furato Shokudo Seoul Square. Apparently this is a direct-run branch!

📍 Head out toward Seoul Station Exit 9
📍 It's in the basement level (B1) of the building.

![Entrance area on basement level 1 of the Seoul Square building](https://img.superchart.com/images/seoul-station-exit-nine-gyukatsu-solo/seoul-station-exit-nine-gyukatsu-solo-04-1a0pn-900.webp)

At first, since the entrance looked like a café, I thought 'is this really the way in?' — but yes, it is!

*Head toward Pascucci*

Once you go in, there's an escalator heading down. Get off it, and Furato Shokudo is right there!

I noticed this again after eating, but I really liked that it's so accessible, being right in the building in front of the station.

## Gyukatsu and the steki set at Furato Shokudo: 19,500 won each

> Revisiting Furato Shokudo

Furato Shokudo is a franchise, but it's a place I already liked enough to have paid out of my own pocket a few times before haha

![Furato Shokudo menu board highlighting the signature gyukatsu](https://img.superchart.com/images/seoul-station-exit-nine-gyukatsu-solo/seoul-station-exit-nine-gyukatsu-solo-08-zmpzb-900.webp)

The signature menu item here is definitely the gyukatsu (beef cutlet)! The omurice is supposedly a signature too, but I always feel like I'm missing out if I don't grill my own cutlet here. So this time again I ordered:

- ✅️ Gyukatsu ₩19,500
- ✅️ Steki set ₩19,500

Those two.

![Guide to Furato Shokudo's set menu options](https://img.superchart.com/images/seoul-station-exit-nine-gyukatsu-solo/seoul-station-exit-nine-gyukatsu-solo-09-lqbqt-900.webp)
*For reference, the set menu✌️*

## Grilling the beef on the tabletop hearth, and why butter is a must

![Rare-cooked meat and the tabletop hearth](https://img.superchart.com/images/seoul-station-exit-nine-gyukatsu-solo/seoul-station-exit-nine-gyukatsu-solo-10-1xljv-900.webp)

Both dishes come out rare at first. So it's a style where you grill the meat yourself on a tabletop hearth.

Personally, if two people are visiting, I'd recommend ordering one gyukatsu plus one steki set to share. Grilling both on the same hearth lets you taste both menus together.

And if possible, I'd recommend adding ✅️ butter to grill with too!

- ✌️ Much richer flavor!
- ✌️ The outside gets even crispier!

That said, at first the hearth isn't hot enough yet, so you have to wait a bit. But at some point the heat really kicks in, and from then on I was basically eating like a competitive eater haha. The staff check in periodically and swap out the coals if the fire seems to be dying down.

The meat tasted best with a little wasabi on top.

Also, being able to eat each piece warm, one at a time, was a really big plus. I cleared the whole plate without getting sick of it till the end!!

## First time at Furato Shokudo? Which dish to order first

I've also had the ebikatsu don (fried shrimp rice bowl) here before, but if you're visiting for the first time, I'd absolutely recommend starting with the gyukatsu.

![Furato Shokudo's signature gyukatsu table setting](https://img.superchart.com/images/seoul-station-exit-nine-gyukatsu-solo/seoul-station-exit-nine-gyukatsu-solo-13-vu351-900.webp)

You've got to try the signature menu at least once haha. Grilling it yourself on the hearth also makes it a different kind of fun from your usual tonkatsu.

## Is Furato Shokudo Seoul Square good for eating alone?

For reference, Furato Shokudo Seoul Square actually seemed better than expected for solo dining. Seoul Station has a lot of people like me, taking the KTX alone down to the provinces.

![Spacious interior of Furato Shokudo Seoul Square](https://img.superchart.com/images/seoul-station-exit-nine-gyukatsu-solo/seoul-station-exit-nine-gyukatsu-solo-14-1prtd-900.webp)

![Seating well-suited for solo dining at Furato Shokudo](https://img.superchart.com/images/seoul-station-exit-nine-gyukatsu-solo/seoul-station-exit-nine-gyukatsu-solo-15-exq87-900.webp)

The dining room itself was relatively spacious, and I actually saw quite a few people eating alone. So if

- ✅️ You're not sure where to eat near Seoul Station
- ✅️ You have a bit of time before your KTX

![View of Furato Shokudo, a good spot to eat before catching the KTX](https://img.superchart.com/images/seoul-station-exit-nine-gyukatsu-solo/seoul-station-exit-nine-gyukatsu-solo-16-8lck0-899.webp)

then I think it's worth stopping by Furato Shokudo.

![Notice about earning Naver Pay points](https://img.superchart.com/images/seoul-station-exit-nine-gyukatsu-solo/seoul-station-exit-nine-gyukatsu-solo-17-pf1rq-900.webp)
*Naver Pay points accrual*

I'll probably be heading to Seoul Station again soon for Chuseok, and I'm thinking of coming back then haha. Plus there's a café upstairs in the same building, so if you have a bit of time left after eating, it's convenient to grab dessert or coffee too.

The food court inside Seoul Station gets so packed on holidays ㅠㅠ

Coming out this way to eat felt much more comfortable. Of course, I've only visited on a weekday evening, so I'm not sure what it's actually like on holidays.

If you're looking for somewhere to eat lunch near Seoul Station before catching the KTX, or a solo dining spot near Seoul Station, I recommend Furato Shokudo! Especially if it's your first visit — try the signature gyukatsu first :)
