Spicy marinated crab! You'd usually think of it as a side dish for rice or a drinking snack, but with its spicy sauce it actually goes really well with a drink at dinner too. This time we visited a place called Maeun Gieok, a well-known bar near Jecheon Terminal. It ended up being much more delicious than I expected, so let me share an honest review. ## Where is Maeun Gieok and how late is it open? Maeun Gieok is located at 3 Docksun-ro 11-gil, 1st floor, Jecheon-si, Chungcheongbuk-do, and it's open every day from 16:30 to 03:00. I don't get to eat marinated crab that often, so it's been a while since I had it out, and I was looking forward to it. Maeun Gieok's spicy marinated crab is like a spicy version of yangnyeom-gejang (soy-marinated crab), tossed in a spicy sauce. From the moment it came out, the sauce looked so appetizing, coated all over, that it made me crave both rice and a drink haha. The crab's distinct flavor blended so well with the spicy sauce, it was really delicious! The sauce was extremely spicy, but unlike dishes that are just spicy and get tiring after a few bites, this crab has that addictive taste that makes you keep eating because of the flavorful sauce. And it was incredibly fresh, with the meat packed full — honestly the most satisfying crab I've had in a while!!! I got it through a review event, and this seemingly plain gimbap actually went perfectly with the spicy crab. Spicy marinated crab is the kind of dish that makes you eat more rice, so this gimbap paired really well with it. The sesame oil scent and nutty flavor of the sesame salt on the seaweed were strong, so it was really delicious. I debated between somyeon (thin wheat noodles) and jjolmyeon, but figured the chewiness of jjolmyeon would suit the spicy sauce better, so jjolmyeon it was!! Make sure to add the noodle add-on too. Getting to eat jjolmyeon on top of everything — now that's doing it right, isn't it? Spicy marinated crab sits somewhere between a meal and a drinking snack, so it's great as a filling meal with rice or as a spicy dish to go with drinks. My friend and I travel all over the country together, and this time we picked Jecheon. It turned out to be a surprisingly easy city to get around, with plenty to see — and the spicy crab was really delicious too^^ If you're looking for something different among Jecheon downtown restaurants, I recommend Maeun Gieok's spicy marinated crab!! It was a different kind of dinner during our Jecheon trip, and it turned out to be much more delicious than expected, so it's a restaurant that's stayed in my memory.
