I went to a great jokbal (braised pig's trotter) restaurant near Jonggak that's perfect for a company dinner or a Jongno gathering. Yeonnam Jokbal is on Jongno Young Street, so it's super easy to get to by public transport. The exterior, with its wood accents, tiled roof, and glowing lights, gave off a really stylish vibe for a jokbal restaurant :)

## Arrive before 5pm to eat without waiting

The interior of this Jonggak jokbal spot has a wood design, and the seat backs double as partitions, giving it a surprisingly private feel.

I was running errands near Jongno and went in before 5pm for an early dinner, and I was able to eat at a relaxed pace. Once it gets past 6pm and the office crowd arrives, there can be a wait.

## The jokbal set served in brassware on a rotating tray

Once you order, they set up the jokbal table spread first. The banchan (side dishes) come in a wide variety and are neatly arranged, so it seemed great for a family gathering or a company dinner.

On a large round tray you get cabbage salad, bean sprout soup, dried radish strips, wild garlic leaves, baek kimchi, seasoned oysters, sauces, and more — generously portioned and cleanly plated. And the dishes are actual brassware! There's also a rotating platform under the tray, so you can spin it around while you eat :)

## How the fried jokbal tastes: part jokbal, part fried chicken

The empty space in the middle of the spread got filled in with crispy-outside, juicy-inside fried jokbal haha. The jokbal that came out looked incredibly appetizing, and there was a generous amount of it.

Yeonnam Jokbal says they carefully select 100% domestic fresh (unrefrigerated) trotters and simmer them for 2 hours with 12 kinds of medicinal herbs and roots.

This Jongno fried jokbal tasted like a mix of jokbal and fried chicken. Sauce is drizzled on top in just the right amount, adding a savory note — I think kids and women in particular would love it.

## Wrapped in pickled chili peppers, piled onto buckwheat noodles

The jokbal is tasty on its own, but wrapping it in lettuce with dried radish and a clove of garlic is great too, and so are the pickled chili peppers — they add a nicely spicy kick. And you know what else is a treat? Piling a piece of jokbal onto the cold buckwheat noodles that arrive a bit later :)

As someone who loves fried food, this fried jokbal was exactly my thing! Crispy and savory on the outside, tender and chewy inside — I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to try something more special than regular jokbal. And honestly, nothing beats it paired with a cold beer~ I was so sad I couldn't have a beer with it that day, ugh.

This Jongno jokbal restaurant also offers great side dishes to enjoy alongside the various jokbal options — cold buckwheat noodles, Yeosu cockle & mixed noodles, and flying fish roe rice balls. I ordered the buckwheat noodles, and I loved how loaded it was with vegetables like cabbage, sprouts, and lettuce.

Mix it all up and add a piece of jokbal on top — it's delicious. Try the cold water-based buckwheat noodles too. If you're looking for a clean, stylish jokbal restaurant near Jonggak Station with a neat tableside spread, I'd recommend Yeonnam Jokbal :)
