## In short

Sanchaega Hanjeongsik Meokgol Main Branch is a gondre and deodeok cauldron-rice hanjeongsik (Korean set-menu) restaurant a 3-minute walk from Meokgol Station in Jungnang, Seoul. Visiting right at opening, a couple ordered two servings of the gondre cauldron special set, which arrived as a full table of banchan running from grilled hwangtae (dried pollack) and deodeok to jeyuk-bokkeum and assorted namul. The gondre cauldron rice at Sanchaega was mild enough to keep eating, and the nurungji sungnyung poured at the end was the best part of the meal.

This is a place I went to recently with my husband, and it had such a healthy, home-cooked feel that I wanted to share it! 🍚 If you're looking for a good restaurant near Meokgol Station, or a hanjeongsik (Korean set meal) place in Jungnang-gu, write this one down right now!! It's Sanchaega Hanjeongsik Meokgol Main Branch.

## Where is Sanchaega Hanjeongsik Meokgol Main Branch, and when is it open?

Sanchaega Hanjeongsik Meokgol Main Branch is at 30 Dongil-ro 157-gil, Jungnang-gu, Seoul, a 3-minute walk between Exits 5 and 6 of Meokgol Station on Line 7. Hours are 11:00–21:30, with break time from 15:30–17:00 and last order at 20:30.

🚘 There's a separate parking area marked with white lines near the restaurant, but spots aren't plentiful, so I'd recommend taking public transit!

## Finding Sanchaega: a corner building in the alley

Walking from Meokgol Station, it's on a corner of the alley, so it wasn't hard to find at all.

![Exterior of Sanchaega Hanjeongsik Meokgol Main Branch on an alley corner](https://img.superchart.com/images/sanchaega-mokgol-gondre-solbap/sanchaega-mokgol-gondre-solbap-02-1xi7j-900.webp)

The sign on the building clearly said "gondre-bap" and "deodeok yeongyang gamasot-bap (deodeok nutrition cauldron rice)," so I immediately got the sense this was a gondre-bap specialty place. We came right when they opened so there was no wait, but I heard there can be a line at lunchtime, so I'd recommend timing your visit well!

Inside, it's decorated cozily with wood furnishings, and a large photo of Sanchaega's gondre fields hangs on the wall, giving a real sense that the ingredients come straight from the source.

## Menu and prices: sets around 13,000 won, special sets around 18,000 won

![Sanchaega's menu board listing set meals and special sets](https://img.superchart.com/images/sanchaega-mokgol-gondre-solbap/sanchaega-mokgol-gondre-solbap-05-1exsh-900.webp)

Looking at the menu, 🍚 the set meals (around ₩13,000) include the gondre cauldron set, the deodeok + shiitake mushroom cauldron set, and the black rice + sweet potato cauldron set, while 🍚 the special sets (around ₩18,000) add grilled deodeok, grilled hwangtae (dried pollack), and wraps to the set meal composition.

We ordered two servings of the gondre cauldron special set! Since the rice is cooked fresh to order, they let us know in advance it would take about 15 minutes.

![Banchan spread set out before the rice arrives](https://img.superchart.com/images/sanchaega-mokgol-gondre-solbap/sanchaega-mokgol-gondre-solbap-06-buebb-900.webp)

While we waited, the banchan came out first, and I was genuinely surprised at how many dishes there were haha. Let me introduce them one by one!

## What comes with the special set: the full banchan spread

### Grilled hwangtae (dried pollack) and grilled deodeok

These come out crispy-fried, and the hwangtae pulled apart soft along its grain with a salty, savory flavor that went perfectly with rice. Put it on top of the gondre rice and take a bite — all your stress from the day melts away ><

![Sweet and spicy jeyuk-bokkeum sprinkled with sesame seeds](https://img.superchart.com/images/sanchaega-mokgol-gondre-solbap/sanchaega-mokgol-gondre-solbap-08-mhbvw-900.webp)

### Jeyuk-bokkeum (spicy stir-fried pork)

Pork stir-fried well in a sweet-and-spicy sauce, sprinkled with sesame seeds for extra nuttiness. The spice level is on the mild side, so kids and adults alike could eat it without worry.

![Doenjang-jjigae with a rich savory aroma](https://img.superchart.com/images/sanchaega-mokgol-gondre-solbap/sanchaega-mokgol-gondre-solbap-09-1cksw-900.webp)

### Doenjang-jjigae (soybean paste stew)

A rich, savory aroma rises from it right away, and eating it together with rice really brings out the depth of flavor. It scratched that itch for home-cooked food.

![Tangy ojing-eo chomuchim (vinegared squid)](https://img.superchart.com/images/sanchaega-mokgol-gondre-solbap/sanchaega-mokgol-gondre-solbap-10-13rr9-m-900.webp)

### Ojingeo-chomuchim (squid in tangy chili dressing)

The tangy squid did a great job waking up the palate when appetite was lacking.

### Kkwari-gochu myeolchi-bokkeum (stir-fried shishito peppers with anchovies)

The shishito peppers and anchovies were stir-fried to a savory saltiness that kept my chopsticks coming back.

![Assorted namul of chamnamul, eggplant namul, and mu-saengchae](https://img.superchart.com/images/sanchaega-mokgol-gondre-solbap/sanchaega-mokgol-gondre-solbap-12-r3cn2-900.webp)

### Assorted namul: chamnamul, eggplant and mu-saengchae

The three types of namul each had a different texture, so it was a combination I kept eating without getting tired of it.

![Springy acorn jelly banchan](https://img.superchart.com/images/sanchaega-mokgol-gondre-solbap/sanchaega-mokgol-gondre-solbap-13-vm608-900.webp)

### Dotori-muk (acorn jelly) and mukeunji (aged kimchi)

The acorn jelly had a chewy texture that felt springy even just picking it up with chopsticks — a nice palate cleanser between other dishes.

![Tangy, well-aged mukeunji kimchi](https://img.superchart.com/images/sanchaega-mokgol-gondre-solbap/sanchaega-mokgol-gondre-solbap-14-1avfb-900.webp)

The mukeunji was well-fermented and tangy, so I kept eating rice without ever feeling weighed down.

## The gondre cauldron rice at last

As soon as the gondre cauldron rice came out, a nutty aroma spread through the air — the gondre namul was mixed densely between the grains of rice, so a gentle herbal scent rose up with every bite. Even eaten plain, it was mild and kept going down easily.

## Nurungji sungnyung: the scorched-rice tea that ends the meal

After eating about half the rice, we poured water over the scorched rice at the bottom of the pot. A savory sungnyung (scorched-rice tea) aroma rose right up, with the gondre scent steeping gently into the water — just right for sipping between bites of the spicier dishes.

It was especially good paired with the jeyuk-bokkeum, resetting the spicy palate to something mild and keeping the chopsticks coming. At the end, sipping the sungnyung alone made my stomach feel at ease — strongly recommend it as a way to finish the meal! haha

## Who should eat at Sanchaega Hanjeongsik Meokgol Main Branch?

They said banchan refills were available, so we ate freely without worrying about running out. The value for the price was so solid that it really felt like we'd been given a full, proper spread!

- ☑️ Strongly recommended for anyone looking for a good restaurant near Meokgol Station or a hanjeongsik place in Jungnang-gu
- ☑️ The many banchan and the mild gondre rice are the highlights
- ☑️ A healthy, home-cooked atmosphere that's perfect to bring your spouse or parents to

I'd love to come back once gondre season is in full swing. If you're looking for a good restaurant near Meokgol Station, be sure to stop by!
