## In short

Cheonghwa Uyuk Dosakmyeon is a Chinese and Asian restaurant in Jongno, Seoul, serving beef knife-cut noodle soup, dim sum, and rice bowls. On a weekday evening, I ordered the Tiger Stir-fried Rice Bowl, beef knife-cut noodle soup, and crystal dumplings for a mix of spice, rich broth, and mild sides. Verdict: a filling three-dish order for two.

While wondering what to eat in Gwanghwamun, I suddenly had the biggest craving for hot broth and chewy noodles that day, haha. I eat Korean or Western food all the time, so I wanted something a little different—and that is how I ended up at Cheonghwa Uyuk Dosakmyeon (청화 우육도삭면). From beef knife-cut noodle soup to dim sum and rice bowls, there was plenty to choose from, and it is close to Gwanghwamun Station too, so the location is great!

## What is the atmosphere like at this Gwanghwamun beef noodle spot?

Cheonghwa Uyuk Dosakmyeon operates across the first and second floors, so it was more spacious than I expected. I visited on a weekday evening, and there were lots of office workers stopping by after work, plus plenty of solo diners—it has an easygoing atmosphere for eating alone!! It does not feel at all awkward to dine solo, but it would also work well for a meal with friends or dinner with coworkers. Since Gwanghwamun is full of office workers, I imagine it gets even busier at lunchtime.

## Three dishes ordered at the table

I could order and pay right at the table. This setup is so convenient these days, haha. You can browse the menu at your own pace and order without having to call a staff member over.

It would have been a shame to leave after eating just one noodle dish, so I properly ordered a rice bowl and dim sum too, haha.

After ordering and waiting a bit, peanuts and zhacai pickles arrived first as the basic side dishes.

## Tiger Stir-fried Rice Bowl, a sneaky rice thief

First up, the Tiger Stir-fried Rice Bowl! The name alone made it sound incredibly spicy, so I was a little nervous, haha, but it looked totally delicious from the start. It came topped with plenty of soft scrambled egg over spicy stir-fried meat. Once I mixed it into the rice, the egg softened the heat, and I just kept eating... haha. It was not simply hot—it was savory and full of umami too, perfect for polishing off a bowl of rice in no time. If you like spicy rice bowls, order this one alongside your noodles!

Personally, this is exactly my kind of dish, so it was the one I enjoyed most!! Haha. It also comes with egg soup on the side~~

## The rich broth of the signature beef knife-cut noodle soup

This was the beef knife-cut noodle soup I had been looking forward to most, and Cheonghwa Uyuk Dosakmyeon is known as a great Gwanghwamun beef noodle spot! Just look at how deep and rich the broth looks, haha.

There were plenty of generous chunks of beef, and above all, I loved the thick, chewy texture that is distinctive to dosakmyeon, or knife-cut noodles. They felt different from ordinary noodles, with a real satisfying bite. The broth was neither aggressively spicy nor salty; it was rich and deep, the kind that keeps your spoon coming back for more! Especially as the weather starts to turn cool, a hot bowl like this would be seriously satisfying, haha. If you are looking for beef noodles in Gwanghwamun, this is definitely worth trying.

## Crystal dumplings that pair well with beef knife-cut noodles

And then there were the sujeong mandu, or crystal dumplings, that I ordered as a side! Their semi-transparent wrappers looked so bouncy and interesting right from the start, haha.

On the first bite, the wrapper was pleasantly chewy and the filling inside was moist. There was a gentle chive aroma, and the overall flavor was mild, so they paired nicely with the beef knife-cut noodle soup. A sip of beef noodle broth followed by one crystal dumpling was such a good combination, haha. If noodles alone feel a little incomplete, I recommend adding one dim sum dish to share! We finished everything in no time, haha.

## What to order when you visit as a pair

I tried all three dishes together, and they made a nice combination because each one tasted different: the spicy, umami-packed Tiger Stir-fried Rice Bowl; the beef knife-cut noodle soup with chewy noodles and rich broth; and the mild crystal dumplings that were easy to snack on in between. If two people order these three dishes, you can taste a little of everything and leave feeling completely full~~

If you are looking for a good Gwanghwamun lunch spot or a dinner option near Gwanghwamun Station, or if you like beef noodles and dim sum, I think this place is worth a visit :)
