This dish pairs golden pan-fried beef yukjeon with seasoned chives. It had a wonderfully nutty, tender texture. Sometimes you come across tough ones, but this was not tough at all and chewed softly, so it was great with rice too. Personally, the yukjeon was much tastier eaten with the seasoned chives than on its own. Since the name Mikodam itself comes from miyeokguk (seaweed soup) and cockles, seaweed soup is one of the restaurant’s signature dishes. That day, I chose the beef version. When I took a spoonful of the warm broth, it was not overpowering; it had a savory, deep flavor. With seaweed soup done this properly, I thought it would be so, so nice to come here on a birthday. Personally, when seaweed soup is too salty or greasy, I get tired of it after a few spoonfuls. This one was comparatively mild, though, so I polished off a whole bowl just like that..! There was a ton of beef in it too 💖 And nearly all of the side dishes could be refilled; the fact that japchae and spicy stir-fried pork could be refilled without an extra charge was...! Amazing. Mikodam is a place I think of when dining with my parents around Magok or Balsan, or when I want a tidy Korean table spread.
