## Kosi Gyodae Branch on a late weekend evening — was there a wait?

I went to Kosi Gyodae Branch, a well-known tonkatsu spot near Gyodae Station. We showed up late on a weekend, and luckily got seated right away with no wait — though the restaurant was already pretty full inside. I'd heard this place usually has a line, and sure enough, plenty of people were eating even at that late hour. Right after we sat down, more customers kept coming in — good timing on our part, haha!

The seating is arranged snugly and coziness. There are solo counter seats too, so it looks like a fine spot for eating alone. But it also felt comfortable for a group meal like ours with the family. It's a great place for lunch or dinner near Gyodae Station, and easy to find. Parking around Gyodae Station always feels tricky, but this tonkatsu spot has free parking right out front.

We visited with the kids and ordered tori-ten bukkake udon (chicken tempura on cold broth-drizzled udon), half-and-half katsu, and the half-and-half katsu udon set. ## Tori-ten bukkake udon: those handmade noodles are the real deal

The tori-ten bukkake udon uses handmade noodles, so the texture was fantastic from the first bite. Springy and chewy, the noodles never went soft even by the end of the bowl. On top of the clean, light broth-drizzled udon flavor sat a big chunk of chicken tempura, making the whole bowl filling on its own. The batter was crisp outside and the meat tender inside, so the kids loved it too. And the portion felt huge — really generous.

Honestly, the tori-ten bukkake udon was my favorite dish at Kosi. The noodles themselves had such a great chewy bite, and the portion was big enough for the whole family to share. If you like udon, this is a dish you really have to try.

## Half-and-half katsu and cheese tonkatsu: how did the kids like it?

True to its reputation as a tonkatsu spot near Gyodae Station, the lineup here is great. We ordered a half-and-half katsu so we could try two kinds of tonkatsu, plus the half-and-half katsu udon set with noodles added on. The half-and-half katsu came with cheese tonkatsu, which I loved — it's packed with so much cheese it practically oozes out. The crispy batter, juicy meat, and stretchy cheese together gave it a rich, savory flavor. The kids happily ate their tonkatsu too.

The udon that came with the half-and-half katsu set had a lighter, clearer broth, so it felt clean overall. The broth wasn't heavy and had a mild, savory taste that paired well with the tonkatsu, and the noodles were chewy and delicious again. This place really is an udon spot, seriously.

## Self-serve bar and takeout containers

Each table comes with tonkatsu sauce and salad dressing already set out, and there's a self-serve bar where you can freely grab side dishes and sauces. They even have takeout containers ready, so if you can't finish, you can pack the leftovers to go. Very thoughtful service.
