## In short

Bonghyejane Jubang Jongno Tower branch is a Korean restaurant on basement level 2 of Jongno Tower in Jongno, Seoul. Two diners ordered one spicy octopus stir-fry set and one Hyeja King Donkatsu (giant pork cutlet), mixing rice into the spicy octopus and sharing a thin, crispy cutlet that filled the whole plate. With pumpkin porridge, mukbap (acorn jelly in cold broth), white kimchi and mushroom perilla soup on the side, Bonghyejane makes for a filling full-table lunch.

## Where is Bonghyejane Jubang Jongno Tower branch, and what are its hours?

I had some business near Jonggak and stopped by Bonghyejane Jubang Jongno Tower branch for lunch. It's on basement level 2 of Jongno Tower, so it wasn't hard to find, and the location was convenient for heading somewhere else afterward. I went looking for a good Jonggak lunch spot and ended up leaving happily fed — the portions were bigger than I expected.

## Bonghyejane's menu lineup and the mood inside the Jongno Tower basement

True to its name, Bonghyejane is a Korean restaurant with a warm, homey feel. The menu ranges from spicy dishes like octopus stir-fry to pork cutlet, soft tofu stew, and bulgogi — plenty of filling one-plate options.

That day I ordered the octopus stir-fry set and the Hyeja King Donkatsu. We each picked a different dish, and it turned out to be totally fine to order this way when you both want something different. Inside, the place was clean and tidy overall. Since Jonggak is full of office workers passing through, I also liked how relaxed the atmosphere felt for a weekday lunch.

## How spicy is the octopus stir-fry set at Bonghyejane?

The octopus in the stir-fry set was plump and chewy, great texture, and the sauce was moderately spicy. It wasn't an overwhelming kind of spicy — more the kind that goes well with rice — so my spoon kept going back for more.

A bite of octopus with rice was delicious on its own, and since the sauce soaks into the rice, it makes you want to mix it all together. I mixed the rice right into the sauce, and yeah — dishes like this really do taste best mixed with rice.

This was a great match for a Jonggak lunch when you're craving something spicy and Korean. What I liked more than expected was everything served alongside it. The octopus stir-fry didn't come alone — there were plenty of sides to go with it, which made the meal feel more substantial. Switching between the spicy octopus and other side dishes kept the flavors interesting, so I never got tired of it.

## Side dishes and mushroom perilla soup served with each set

Every one of the side dishes that come with the solo set was good. The pumpkin porridge was soft and mildly sweet, a nice light starter before the meal, and the mukbap (acorn jelly in cold broth) was refreshing and clean, pairing well with the spicy octopus. The white kimchi was crisp and clean-tasting, good for resetting your palate between bites. And the nutty peanut side dish was oddly addictive — I kept reaching for more.

The mushroom perilla soup was especially good — a warm, nutty broth with mushrooms in it, which paired really well alternating with the spicy octopus. I kept spooning up the broth throughout the meal. It wasn't just the main dish that was tasty — the accompanying dishes all suited my taste too, making for a really satisfying spread.

## How big is the Hyeja King Donkatsu giant pork cutlet?

We also tried the Hyeja King Donkatsu, and it really lived up to its name — a giant pork cutlet. The size alone, filling the whole plate, caught my eye right away. These days, eating out with kids means pork cutlet comes up a lot, but this time we ate it just the two of us, no kids around, and it was still satisfying.

The cutlet wasn't the thick, heavy style — it was on the thinner side, fried crisp on the outside. The crunchy coating with the thin, tender meat made it easy to eat without feeling too heavy. Since it's the 'king' size, there was a lot of it, and I wondered at first if we could finish it all — but once we started eating, it went down easier than expected.
