## In short

Jjamppong Jijeon Seooreung Branch is a Chinese restaurant on Seooreung-ro in Deokyang-gu, Goyang, Gyeonggi, spread over the first and second floors. Remembering how good the jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup) was last time, the writer came back with her boyfriend and ordered jjamjjamyeon at spice level 4, jjamppong soondubu (soft tofu stew), fried mandu (dumplings) and jjamppong mandu. The broth was deep and fiery with plenty of cockles and squid, and the jjajangmyeon side came with big chunky toppings, making Jjamppong Jijeon an easy return whenever a spicy jjamppong craving hits.

There's a place I always think of whenever I crave a spicy bowl of jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup). That place is Jjamppong Jijeon Seooreung Branch.

I remembered really enjoying the jjamppong on my last visit here, and after some time passed, I found myself craving it again. So this time I came back with my boyfriend.

## Inside the two-floor restaurant and what's on the menu

Jjamppong Jijeon Seooreung Branch is a decently sized restaurant spread across the 1st and 2nd floors. The interior felt comfortable enough for a group meal, and it seemed like a great option for a family dinner or a couple's meal spot.

![Menu board showing jjamppong spice level options](https://img.superchart.com/images/seooreung-jjamppong-jijon-jjamjjamyeon-sundubu/seooreung-jjamppong-jijon-jjamjjamyeon-sundubu-05-sfilq-900.webp)

The menu had a wide variety — jjamppong, jjajangmyeon, fried rice, and more. This time we ordered jjamjjamyeon, jjamppong soondubu, fried mandu, and jjamppong mandu.

One thing worth noting: at Jjamppong Jijeon you can choose the spice level of the jjamppong! I usually like spicy food, so I went straight for level 4 without hesitation this time too.

## Level 4 spicy jjamjjamyeon: jjajangmyeon and jjamppong in one bowl

![Jjamjjamyeon with both jjamppong and jjajangmyeon](https://img.superchart.com/images/seooreung-jjamppong-jijon-jjamjjamyeon-sundubu/seooreung-jjamppong-jijon-jjamjjamyeon-sundubu-06-1j4ju-900.webp)

My order — jjamjjamyeon! Last time I had jjamppong, but this time I wanted to try the jjajangmyeon too, so I picked jjamjjamyeon. It's the perfect menu when just one dish isn't enough and you want both jjajangmyeon and jjamppong.

![The jjajangmyeon portion of the jjamjjamyeon](https://img.superchart.com/images/seooreung-jjamppong-jijon-jjamjjamyeon-sundubu/seooreung-jjamppong-jijon-jjamjjamyeon-sundubu-07-ap1mo-900.webp)

![Noodles mixed with black bean sauce](https://img.superchart.com/images/seooreung-jjamppong-jijon-jjamjjamyeon-sundubu/seooreung-jjamppong-jijon-jjamjjamyeon-sundubu-08-r2m0r-900.webp)

I tried the jjajangmyeon first. The sauce had a subtle savory depth, and best of all, it was loaded with big chunks of onion and meat.

![Jjajangmyeon with visible onion and meat chunks](https://img.superchart.com/images/seooreung-jjamppong-jijon-jjamjjamyeon-sundubu/seooreung-jjamppong-jijon-jjamjjamyeon-sundubu-09-1gyoa-900.webp)

Sometimes with jjajangmyeon there's plenty of sauce but not enough toppings, but here I loved the texture of biting into those big chunky ingredients. The sweet onion paired really well with the black bean sauce, and it was pretty delicious. It tasted better than I expected, which made me glad I went with the jjamjjamyeon.

Next up, level 4 spicy jjamppong! Since I usually love spicy food, I dug in expecting a good kick — the broth was rich and sharply spicy, and I loved how the fiery flavor spread through my mouth.

![Jjamppong with cockles and squid](https://img.superchart.com/images/seooreung-jjamppong-jijon-jjamjjamyeon-sundubu/seooreung-jjamppong-jijon-jjamjjamyeon-sundubu-12-byvin-900.webp)

![Close-up of the seafood toppings in the jjamppong](https://img.superchart.com/images/seooreung-jjamppong-jijon-jjamjjamyeon-sundubu/seooreung-jjamppong-jijon-jjamjjamyeon-sundubu-13-k9l6u-900.webp)

The jjamppong was loaded with cockles and squid. With so much seafood packed in, it was fun eating them alongside the noodles.

![A spoonful of jjamppong broth](https://img.superchart.com/images/seooreung-jjamppong-jijon-jjamjjamyeon-sundubu/seooreung-jjamppong-jijon-jjamjjamyeon-sundubu-14-shuuh-900.webp)

![Noodles and seafood picked up together](https://img.superchart.com/images/seooreung-jjamppong-jijon-jjamjjamyeon-sundubu/seooreung-jjamppong-jijon-jjamjjamyeon-sundubu-15-tet32-900.webp)

Picking out the cockles and squid while sipping the broth spoonful by spoonful really let me enjoy jjamppong's signature spicy punch. I came back because of how much I enjoyed the jjamppong last time, and once again it hit the spot. If you love spicy food, this is worth trying at least once.

![Table set with jjamjjamyeon and jjamppong soondubu](https://img.superchart.com/images/seooreung-jjamppong-jijon-jjamjjamyeon-sundubu/seooreung-jjamppong-jijon-jjamjjamyeon-sundubu-16-10dfq-900.webp)

## What does the jjamppong soondubu taste like?

This time my boyfriend ordered jjamppong soondubu! I had the jjamjjamyeon and he had the jjamppong soondubu, so we shared bites of each other's dishes.

![A bowl of jjamppong soondubu with soft tofu](https://img.superchart.com/images/seooreung-jjamppong-jijon-jjamjjamyeon-sundubu/seooreung-jjamppong-jijon-jjamjjamyeon-sundubu-17-1c0z8-1200.webp)

Jjamppong soondubu combines savory, soft soondubu (soft tofu) with a rich jjamppong broth, and it had a totally different charm from regular jjamppong! The soft tofu gently softened the spiciness of the broth, making it easy to eat without feeling overwhelmed.

![Mixing rice into the jjamppong soondubu broth](https://img.superchart.com/images/seooreung-jjamppong-jijon-jjamjjamyeon-sundubu/seooreung-jjamppong-jijon-jjamjjamyeon-sundubu-18-1fmm1-900.webp)

My boyfriend in particular mixed rice into it, and as the broth soaked into every grain, it turned into a much heartier meal.

I tried a spoonful too, and the combination of soft tofu and the spicy broth worked really well together. If you want a hearty meal with rice in a spicy broth, jjamppong soondubu is a solid choice.

## Fried mandu vs. jjamppong mandu: which one wins?

![A plate of fried mandu ordered as a side](https://img.superchart.com/images/seooreung-jjamppong-jijon-jjamjjamyeon-sundubu/seooreung-jjamppong-jijon-jjamjjamyeon-sundubu-19-1tlym-900.webp)

![Crispy fried mandu](https://img.superchart.com/images/seooreung-jjamppong-jijon-jjamjjamyeon-sundubu/seooreung-jjamppong-jijon-jjamjjamyeon-sundubu-20-1rf1c-900.webp)

Just the main dishes felt slightly lacking, so we ordered fried mandu (dumplings) as a side. I like pairing mandu with meals at Chinese restaurants, so I ordered them this time too to go with the jjamppong.

![Cross-section of a fried mandu packed with filling](https://img.superchart.com/images/seooreung-jjamppong-jijon-jjamjjamyeon-sundubu/seooreung-jjamppong-jijon-jjamjjamyeon-sundubu-21-l0j6m-900.webp)

![A fried mandu split in half showing the filling](https://img.superchart.com/images/seooreung-jjamppong-jijon-jjamjjamyeon-sundubu/seooreung-jjamppong-jijon-jjamjjamyeon-sundubu-22-1f9hy-900.webp)

The fried mandu had a crispy fried exterior and were packed full of filling inside. Crispy outside, moist inside — perfect to nibble on between bites of jjamppong. I've had disappointing mandu at other Chinese restaurants before where the filling felt almost hollow, but these were satisfyingly stuffed.

![Jjamppong mandu from Jjamppong Jijeon](https://img.superchart.com/images/seooreung-jjamppong-jijon-jjamjjamyeon-sundubu/seooreung-jjamppong-jijon-jjamjjamyeon-sundubu-23-svjo5-900.webp)

Alongside the regular fried mandu, we also ordered jjamppong mandu! I was curious how something named after jjamppong would actually taste, and once I tried it, it clearly had a charm all its own compared to the regular mandu.

It was surprising to taste jjamppong's signature spicy flavor coming through in the mandu itself. The crispy dumpling skin paired with the jjamppong flavor felt like a fresh twist. Worth ordering if you want to try something different from your usual mandu.

![Regular fried mandu and jjamppong mandu served together](https://img.superchart.com/images/seooreung-jjamppong-jijon-jjamjjamyeon-sundubu/seooreung-jjamppong-jijon-jjamjjamyeon-sundubu-24-1c81f-900.webp)

The familiar fried mandu was tasty, but the jjamppong mandu stuck with me for showing off Jjamppong Jijeon's own signature style. If you love jjamppong, it's worth ordering as a side too.

## Final verdict after a second visit to Jjamppong Jijeon

I came back to Jjamppong Jijeon Seooreung Branch after remembering how good the jjamppong was last time! I loved the rich, sharp broth and the generous seafood, and the jjajangmyeon in the jjamjjamyeon was excellent too, with big chunky toppings and a deep savory flavor.

If you're looking for restaurants in Goyang or around Seooreung and craving spicy jjamppong, it's worth visiting Jjamppong Jijeon Seooreung Branch. Next time I visit, I'd love to try some of the other jjamppong dishes too. 😊
