## In short

Gyeongju Tokyo Pie is a pie bakery in a Poseok-ro alley off Hwangnidan-gil in Gyeongju. Apple, red bean, and chocolate pies were bought individually wrapped at 4,500 won each and eaten at home with cold milk, and the butter smell that rose the moment the bag opened was the best part. Chocolate was the favorite, then apple, then red bean, and revisit intent is 100000%.

## Gyeongju Tokyo Pie menu and prices: 4,500 won per pie

I found Gyeongju Tokyo Pie while walking around Hwangnidan-gil. This time I packed three flavors — apple pie, red bean pie, and chocolate pie — at ₩4,500 each.

The moment I opened the bag, a rich buttery smell hit me right away, and my expectations shot up from that instant.

Hwangnidan-gil has dessert shops down every alley, so you fill up fast if you try a bit of everything. I'd recommend taking Tokyo Pie's pies to go and eating them while walking, or finding a spot to sit and enjoy them at leisure. Pair it with a stroll through Daereungwon or Cheomseongdae and one dessert basically completes a day trip.

## How does the apple pie at Gyeongju Tokyo Pie taste?

First up, the apple pie. One bite and the outside is crispy while the pastry layers stay distinct, so the texture is fun.

Inside is sweet apple, and the tart-sweet flavor blended with the buttery richness for something clean, not greasy. Out of the three, it was the most crowd-pleasing, easy-to-love flavor. Since the flaky layers shatter easily, it helps to eat over a plate or napkin.

Pies lose their crispness over time, so I'd recommend eating them right after picking them up. If eating all three at once feels like too much, splitting them with friends or family lets everyone try a little of each flavor.

Tokyo Pie's biggest charm was definitely the butter smell. Every time I opened the bag, that savory scent rose up and put me in a good mood before I even took a bite, and even after eating, a faint buttery lingering made me keep reaching for the next piece.

## Red bean pie: a must if you like pat (sweet red bean paste)

Second, the red bean pie. The savory pastry meeting sweet red bean paste made for a flavor that was familiar yet different.

The red bean wasn't too sweet, backed up by the pastry's savoriness, so I kept reaching for it. If you like red bean, this one is a must-try. If you're into combos like ang-butter (red bean and butter), this should suit you especially well.

## Chocolate pie: the richest, sweetest of the three

Last, the chocolate pie. Rich chocolate mixed in with the pastry, and a sweet-bitter flavor spread through my mouth.

The chocolate's rich taste paired well with the buttery savoriness, holding its own as a dessert. Since the sweetness runs strong, I'd recommend savoring it slowly, bite by bite.

## Comparing the three flavors: which pie to pick

Comparing all three from Gyeongju Tokyo Pie: apple pie was clean, red bean pie was savory-sweet, and chocolate pie was rich. My personal ranking was chocolate, then apple, then red bean.

If it's hard to pick just one, I'd recommend buying all three and comparing them by sharing.

## Why Gyeongju Tokyo Pie tastes best with cold milk

The most satisfying pairing this time around was milk. Eating them with cold milk at home made the buttery savoriness pop even more and cleaned up the sweetness, so all three pies disappeared in no time.

Coffee is good too, but I strongly recommend pairing Tokyo Pie with milk. It's perfect as an afternoon snack when you're peckish, or as a sugar boost while traveling.

## Who Gyeongju Tokyo Pie is best for

- Anyone who loves pies packed with buttery flavor
- Anyone looking for a dessert to carry around while strolling Hwangnidan-gil
- Anyone who loves red bean paste or chocolate desserts

## Gyeongju Tokyo Pie: the verdict

Tokyo Pie let me pick by mood — the cleanness of the apple pie, the savory-sweetness of the red bean pie, and the richness of the chocolate pie. I fell for the butter smell, then fell again over a glass of milk.

Next time I'm in Hwangnidan-gil, I'm planning to pack more to go. Revisit intent is 100000%. If you're headed to Hwangnidan-gil, make sure to stop by!
