## Making Pochacco Keychains with Square Beads

Lately, these diamond painting keychains made with square beads have been all over Instagram, Twitter, everywhere!! I’m not someone who can just let a trend like this pass me by... but I’d failed to buy square beads at Daiso, so I was kind of pretending not to see it.

But then I finally had a chance encounter with Daiso square-bead diamond painting and immediately made one! (Daiso item no. 1047815)

The colors weren’t that varied, so I made Pochacco, who can be made with just white and black. I was going to put it into an ID-photo keychain, so size was an issue too. That’s why I just... chose a background color. At first I used orange, which seemed like the color I’d use least, then for take two I went with pink because there was quite a lot of it. A color choice I normally would never make, but it’s only the background, so whatever.

A progress shot. I didn’t put a pattern underneath or anything—I just went for it. Because I was truly not prepared at all.

Finished~~! But maybe because I just used top coat, the back is a bit messy,,. Next time, I’m thinking I might lay down actual diamond painting sealer first.

## The Sealer I Found Because I Worried Beads Would Fall Off

But after carrying this around, I started thinking: if even one bead falls off, it’ll look so bad.... And that’s how I found sealer for diamond painting while searching...! “Bead gloss” seems to be the more common name. I can’t believe something like this exists—this world is wide and craft supplies are many.

Hasi Diamond Painting Sealer comes in a whopping 247ml bottle, plus a silicone brush for spreading it out. For keychains, you really need only a tiny amount, so if you’re using it for keychains like I am... you may never finish it in your lifetime.

## Checking the Instructions and What’s Included

I’m the type of person who reads the manual even when I buy an iPhone, so of course I read it this time too. It says drying takes about two hours, but perhaps because the keychains are so small, they were completely dry in under an hour.

Apparently it can be used not only on diamond painting but also on puzzles, photos, paper, and wood...! For someone like me who loves making all sorts of things, this is the kind of liquid that would get a lot of use.

The included silicone brush is pretty sturdy too.

You twist the lid open like this. It doesn’t come completely off. Maybe because it’s adhesive... Anyway, with coatings like this, the lid is bound to disappear after you finish coating something, so I only see that as a good thing.

You twist it to close it too! The opening where coating liquid comes out often gets clogged and becomes unusable, but that probably won’t happen here either.

## Coating Two Pochacco Keychains

My two Pochaccos to coat. I’m hoping the coating will make them a little shinier and sturdier.

One thing: I did not need to squeeze out this much... A small amount is enough to make it sturdy and glossy. Don’t squeeze it out wildly like I did—use a little at a time,,

Can you see that shine? I spread the bead gloss with the included silicone brush. But because I squeezed out way too much (ㅠㅠ), the amount left on the silicone brush alone was enough to coat the other keychain.

Right after applying the diamond painting coating liquid!! You just let it dry in this state. In the meantime, I washed the silicone brush.

The instructions said to wash it with water only, so I just went ahead and washed it with water. It’s a water-based PVA product that has passed strict standards, so it seemed safe to wash with bare hands. There are no children in my home, but apparently it is safe enough for households with children to use.

I felt like the brush should dry too, so I set it beside the keychains to dry. When I checked after around 50 minutes, everything was dry. I guess it was because they were so small.

## Gloss After Drying and My Next Square-Bead Pattern

Once they were dry, they were even shinier,,. This must be why people use coating liquid on diamond paintings. It is said to preserve the gloss and keep them sturdy for a long time. Now I can carry them around as keychains without worrying.

I thought diamond painting was only about sticking round beads onto a base, so honestly I wasn’t that interested. But making something with square beads like this was much more fun than I expected. You can make anything with a square pixel pattern, and I have collected lots of those patterns for crochet colorwork, so now I’m going to make them into diamond paintings one by one~~!
