## In short

Dokbul Janggun Ilsan Baekseok Branch is a Jeju pork Korean BBQ restaurant in Goyang, Gyeonggi. After a movie date, I ordered the 600g 72-hour-aged Jeju platter and grilled chewy pork, pork jowl, and nakyeopsal in order, with water kimchi and complimentary cheonggukjang standing out. Verdict: a great spot for Jeju specialty cuts in a terrace-style evening atmosphere.

After enjoying a movie date over the weekend, we were hungry—and now that the weather has turned cool, I went looking for a meat restaurant with that open-air terrace vibe. That brought us to Dokbul Janggun Ilsan Baekseok Branch, a Korean BBQ spot near Baekseok Station in Ilsan.

## Jeju specialty-cut Korean BBQ in Baekseok Station’s dining alley

Right at the entrance to Baekseok Station’s dining alley, Dokbul Janggun was easy to find. This local Ilsan favorite uses premium Jeju pork specialty cuts aged for 72 hours, so you can enjoy fresh meat with loads of juice.

We made a Naver reservation before visiting, and even though it was after 8 p.m. on Sunday, there were still plenty of guests having dinner with a shot of soju. I thought, yep, I found the right place today. Haha.

The weather has gotten properly cool lately—perfect for an open-air terrace atmosphere, isn’t it? >_< It looked like a lovely place to have dinner and a drink of soju at a terrace table with your partner or friends at night.

## What order did we grill the Jeju platter in?

One wall listed Dokbul’s recommended course and the order for eating the meat, which was handy to refer to. We ordered the main recommendation, the Dokbul 72-Hour Aged Jeju Platter, 600g.

![Dokbul 72-Hour Aged Jeju Platter order](https://img.superchart.com/images/baekseok-jeju-pork-dokbuljanggun/baekseok-jeju-pork-dokbuljanggun-05-av5ur-966.webp)

Right after we ordered, they brought over red-hot charcoal too.

The side dishes arrived too. There was napa cabbage kimchi, pickled shredded chili peppers, grilled glasswort salt, galchi-sokjeot (salted hairtail fish sauce), wrap vegetables, wasabi, garlic, and water kimchi—so many side dishes, and every one was perfect with the meat.

All the side dishes were tasty, but the house-made water kimchi was especially insanely good ㅠㅠ It tasted like the kind my grandmother used to freeze underground in an earthenware jar during winter, so I was honestly surprised, haha.

And, amazingly, hearty yet clean traditional cheonggukjang came as a complimentary service! It was lovely for warming and soothing the stomach before the meat. We ordered a bowl of rice too, but I nearly polished off a whole bowl with the cheonggukjang before even getting to the meat—then stopped after eating about half, haha.

### From chewy pork to nakyeopsal

Dokbul 72-Hour Aged Jeju Platter, 600g: ₩56,000

The combination of kkodeulsal (chewy pork), bolhangjeongsal (pork cheek jowl), and nakyeopsal was unreal ㅠㅠ The meat had been properly aged for 72 hours, so there was no off smell and the color was beautiful. I wondered how we should eat these meat slices spread out prettily like flowers, but they kindly explained each cut, so we started grilling them in order.

Following their instructions, we grilled the kkodeulsal first.

![Kkodeulsal grilled first on the grill](https://img.superchart.com/images/baekseok-jeju-pork-dokbuljanggun/baekseok-jeju-pork-dokbuljanggun-13-xqd5g-966.webp)

I could see why it is called kkodeulsal from its satisfyingly chewy texture. I loved how the outside was not merely savory but crispy and lightly crunchy too.

The grill had great heat and nothing stuck to it, so even our couple—normally hopeless at grilling meat—could cook and enjoy it deliciously. Hahaha.

We mixed the special galchi-sokjeot from the side dishes and dipped the meat in it; the seasoning was spot-on. And the glasswort salt, which seemed like nothing special at first, was really the secret weapon.

It was also so good wrapped in the lettuce provided with the sides, with a little shredded scallion and ssamjang (savory soybean dipping paste). Ah! Extra lettuce wraps cost ₩1,000, so keep that in mind!

Next up was bolhangjeongsal, which lets you enjoy pork cheek and jowl together.

The bolhangjeongsal was nicely thick and full of juices;; Thinking about that flavor and aroma makes me want to eat it again. Hahaha.

![Juicy bolhangjeongsal](https://img.superchart.com/images/baekseok-jeju-pork-dokbuljanggun/baekseok-jeju-pork-dokbuljanggun-19-w862c-966.webp)

Pork jowl and pork belly are normally my favorites, but I think this was my first time trying bolhangjeongsal. Hahaha. Compared with regular pork jowl, it had an even more savory, clean-tasting quality.

![Grill after eating the bolhangjeongsal](https://img.superchart.com/images/baekseok-jeju-pork-dokbuljanggun/baekseok-jeju-pork-dokbuljanggun-22-13jv8-966.webp)

And finally, we grilled the nakyeopsal.

![Nakyeopsal grilled last](https://img.superchart.com/images/baekseok-jeju-pork-dokbuljanggun/baekseok-jeju-pork-dokbuljanggun-23-3recm-966.webp)

It was my first time trying nakyeopsal, so I was curious. I heard it is an especially delicious cut at the end of the pork shoulder, a prized cut that yields only around 250g from one pig.

![Mild and chewy nakyeopsal](https://img.superchart.com/images/baekseok-jeju-pork-dokbuljanggun/baekseok-jeju-pork-dokbuljanggun-24-tj391-966.webp)

Though it had less fat, it was mild and chewy, almost like eating beef. It was a perfect match with the kimchi cooked alongside it on the grill, and simply dipping it in glasswort salt was enough to enjoy all those rich juices.

This is a Baekseok Station Korean BBQ restaurant that is just right for a meal with an open-air terrace atmosphere. If you love Jeju pork specialty cuts, this is a place to find beautifully aged Jeju pork.
