The soup and geotjeori (fresh kimchi) that come as basic side dishes are exactly the kind of Korean-style appetite-boosters, right? Geotjeori paired with beef radish soup... it's not the Gyeongsang-do style radish soup, but the meat is so tender the kids loved it. Mu-saengchae (seasoned radish salad) and stir-fried garlic scapes with anchovies also came out as rice side dishes, so how could we not order a bowl of rice! Just these alone could finish off a bowl of rice. As we kept eating, main dish number one finally arrived — hanwoo yukhoe bibim buckwheat noodles. Carrots, rice, and egg garnish — a bowl that clearly took some real effort. The kale ssambap is subtly addictive — anyone who's had it properly with gangdoenjang knows you need both hands to eat it right. The gangdoenjang wasn't too salty and paired perfectly with both the cold pork and the ssambap. Is there any kid who doesn't like cold pork? Kids tagging along with mom and dad can easily finish a whole bowl, and even kids who usually avoid vegetables can eat comfortably here — a table with a clean, satisfying balance.
