## Where is Meongseokjip Jongno 3-ga Branch, and what are its hours?

Now that it's autumn, I figured it was time for an outdoor-patio-style BBQ night, so I headed to Jongno 3-ga Station. This is Meongseokjip Jongno 3-ga Branch, which I found while hunting for good street-BBQ spots.

Walk straight from Exit 6 of Jongno 3-ga Station and turn into the alley, and it's right there. I could spot the Meongseokjip sign from far off, so it was easy to find.

When you think of Jongno 3-ga, you think of the hanok streets of Ikseon-dong and the street-tent alleys — that distinct atmosphere. I'd heard Meongseokjip had that same cozy, only-in-Jongno vibe, so I went in with high expectations.

## Indoor seats that feel like a street BBQ: seating at Meongseokjip

Meongseokjip is a BBQ restaurant that's indoors but somehow feels like an outdoor street patio. Even though I went right after opening, there were already people there ahead of me. And I loved that even indoors, it still had that open-air patio feeling.

On nice-weather days you can also sit outside and soak in the alley atmosphere directly — it felt a bit different from your typical BBQ restaurant haha.

The overall mood wasn't quiet and calm — it was lively, with groups of people gathered together enjoying meat and drinks.

It seemed like a great spot for gatherings or work dinners where you can chat comfortably over the meal. If you come at lunchtime, you can even relax while looking up at that open ceiling haha.

## Meongseokjip's menu and what comes in the meongseok set

Meongseokjip sells a wide range of meat cuts — aged pork belly, skirt meat, flower pork collar, pork jowl, beef short rib meat, beef chuck flap, and more. If you want to try several cuts at once, there's also a combo set — aged pork belly for two plus flower pork collar for one, which felt just right for two people.

We ordered one meongseok set, rice for each of us, and — since the owner said the beef brisket doenjang stew (soybean paste stew) was delicious — one of those too.

## A 30°C autumn day, but Meongseokjip has air conditioning

One more bonus of being indoors: there's air conditioning. It was autumn, but the temperature had climbed to 30°C, so I was worried — but it wasn't hot at all. People who run hot immediately claimed the seats right in front of the AC. I run cold, so I sat a bit further away!

## Meongseokjip's self-serve bar: green onion kimchi refilled twice

The side dishes came out right after we ordered. The green onion kimchi was genuinely so good. I refilled it twice.

Refills are self-serve. It's such a generous, wallet-friendly setup — you can just grab as much of that amazing kimchi as you want.

The owner turned on the flame for us to start grilling, and the heat was so strong — the pork cooked in no time. This is definitely a restaurant built for Korean-style eating.

## Aged pork belly and flower pork collar served in a crock

The meat we ordered came out neatly arranged in a crock! Most BBQ restaurants these days serve meat on sleek stainless trays or wooden boards, but this rustic, homey presentation felt like something foreigners would love too.

First we put the two servings of aged pork belly on the grill. We planned to grill the pork collar once some fat had rendered off the belly haha.

There was supposedly a grilling service, but the staff seemed too busy to do it for us. Honestly, though — grilling it ourselves is more comfortable anyway!

We ended up eating the green onion kimchi before the meat was even ready, it was that good. I really wish the owner sold that kimchi separately.

The meat's surface cooked quickly, which seemed to lock in the juices nicely. The quality of the meat was excellent too!! It tasted even better for being so fresh.

## The owner's pick: beef brisket doenjang stew with bean sprouts

The beef brisket doenjang stew the owner recommended was also delicious. It arrived bubbling hot, so it stayed warm until the very last spoonful. Along with the brisket, it was loaded generously with tofu and vegetables, so instead of just sipping broth, there was plenty of fun in digging out the ingredients!

Right before we left, the owner offered us some freshly made bean sprouts to try. They were crunchy and well-seasoned, pairing perfectly with the meat.

## Who will enjoy Meongseokjip most?

It's close to the Ikseon-dong hanok streets, so it's great for wandering around before or after your meal, and it's also a solid spot for casually enjoying meat and drinks with friends. On nice-weather days especially, you'll really get that full outdoor-patio feeling — so if you're looking for an atmospheric BBQ restaurant in Jongno 3-ga, it's worth a visit.
