## In short

Bongga Gyodong Banjeom is a new jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup) restaurant on the Eungol café street in Unseo-dong, Yeongjong, Incheon, directly across from Café Mokhyeon. The writer arrived with a friend right at the 11:00 opening and ordered Gyodong Jjamppong for 10,000 won, Sundubu Jjamppong Rice with Chodang tofu for 12,000 won and Mini Tangsuyuk for 13,000 won, and by 11:40 the room was nearly full. Between the house-made noodles, the deep broth and the yakult served at the end, Bongga Gyodong Banjeom looks set to become the neighborhood's go-to jjamppong spot.

## A new jjamppong restaurant across from Café Mokhyeon on the Eungol café street

Bongga Gyodong Banjeom is a new jjamppong restaurant that opened across from Café Mokhyeon on the Eungol café street in Unseo-dong. My close friend said she wanted to go there.

Me: Wait, where's that??? Her: You know, it's right there, across from Café Mokhyeon... Me: Oh — we saw that place under construction last time! ...Ah!!!! That's Bongga Gyodong Banjeom, right, let's go there then ^^

## Arriving at the 11:00 opening: nearly full by 11:40

We stopped by the hospital in the morning, then a bakery, thought about hitting Daiso too, but since we weren't in a rush we headed straight to Bongga Gyodong Banjeom right at the 11am opening, la la la 🎶 We got there early, but this place apparently has a waiting line these days — ₩ㅁ₩ Everyone seemed to be coming in early for lunch, reservations flying around everywhere too ~ By the time we finished eating around 11:30–40 and looked back on our way out, it was almost completely full, whoa.

One bite in and — whoa!! It's really rich and delicious!!! I let out a gasp, and immediately thought of my husband, who loves jjamppong, haha. Guess we're coming back this weekend ^_^

## Gyodong Jjamppong, 10,000 won: how spicy is it?

Gyodong Jjamppong is ₩10,000. My friend picked this one — it looks really spicy, but it actually isn't. It has a kick, but not as much as it looks. Instead, you sweat like crazy lol. My friend had a cold and said this might just cure it, haha.

![Noodles lifted up from the Gyodong jjamppong](https://img.superchart.com/images/unseo-eungol-cafe-street-jjamppong-bonga/unseo-eungol-cafe-street-jjamppong-bonga-08-npuat-900.webp)

![Close-up of the handmade jjamppong noodles](https://img.superchart.com/images/unseo-eungol-cafe-street-jjamppong-bonga/unseo-eungol-cafe-street-jjamppong-bonga-09-1apeo-900.webp)

### Why the house-made noodles at Bongga Gyodong Banjeom stand out

Unlike other Chinese restaurants, the noodles were genuinely delicious. I noticed it after just one bite!!! There's a sign on the wall saying they mix and age their own ingredients before making the noodles by hand — that's why they're chewy and springy. Ah — the noodles really are that good ^^ They soak up the broth so well and cling to your mouth, hahaha.

Gyodong Jjamppong has both meat and seafood in it. Rather than the usual clean, light flavor, it's characterized by a deep, rich density from meat, seafood, and vegetable juices all packed into the broth.

![A spoonful of the rich Gyodong jjamppong broth](https://img.superchart.com/images/unseo-eungol-cafe-street-jjamppong-bonga/unseo-eungol-cafe-street-jjamppong-bonga-10-1oko7-900.webp)

About ten years ago, early in my marriage, I went to the supposedly original spot in Gyodong, Gangwon-do, and honestly — this one is better. It has more flavor depth, and the spice level is just right!!

## Sundubu Jjamppong Rice, 12,000 won: Chodang tofu in Unseo-dong

Sundubu Jjamppong Rice is ₩12,000. The soft, cloudy sundubu (uncurdled tofu) piled on top looks so good! At this jjamppong restaurant near Unseo Station, I almost felt like I'd been transported to Sokcho — a taste of Sokcho from the nearby Unseo-dong café street!

![Sundubu jjamppong rice topped with Chodang soft tofu](https://img.superchart.com/images/unseo-eungol-cafe-street-jjamppong-bonga/unseo-eungol-cafe-street-jjamppong-bonga-11-xgzx4-900.webp)

Nutty and pillowy with a fun texture, plus the fun of soaking it in the thick Gyodong jjamppong broth and mixing it into rice!!! You can get more rice if it's not enough — for two women, it was just right with no shortage ㅅㅁㅅ Wood ear mushrooms and various vegetables stir-fried to a sweet char give it that smoky wok flavor — meat, squid, mussels, and more 👍🏻

Maybe it's the sundubu, but it's especially nutty — this is exactly the style women will love! You can just tell, hahaha. At this jjamppong restaurant near Unseo Station, mixing rice into that thick broth for one bite — yum~

Looking around the tables today, the men-to-women ratio was about even!!! I have a feeling this jjamppong restaurant near Unseo Station is going to take over the neighborhood.

## Mini Tangsuyuk, 13,000 won: the right size for two

Mini Tangsuyuk is ₩13,000. My friend eats light, so we ordered the smallest mini size of tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork) — and it was just right alongside one main dish each :D But it definitely didn't look 'mini' at all~~~

![A plate of mini tangsuyuk at Bongga Gyodong Banjeom](https://img.superchart.com/images/unseo-eungol-cafe-street-jjamppong-bonga/unseo-eungol-cafe-street-jjamppong-bonga-16-1ei11-900.webp)

![Mini-size tangsuyuk with dipping sauce](https://img.superchart.com/images/unseo-eungol-cafe-street-jjamppong-bonga/unseo-eungol-cafe-street-jjamppong-bonga-17-12npx-900.webp)

The tangsuyuk was packed full of meat, generous and satisfying, and the batter was clean and nutty ^_^ Oh, there's some seaweed sprinkled on. The batter is thin and fried well, haha, you can even see the meat through it~ Aww, the tangsuyuk here is delicious too 🙌🏻 Dip it lightly in the tangy-sweet sauce, yum!

## A yakult to finish: is Bongga Gyodong Banjeom worth the trip?

I'd recommend eating cleanly with the soy sauce-vinegar dip too. And of course, dip some onion in the chunjang (black bean paste) in between bites *_^ A must at this jjamppong restaurant near Unseo Station.

Oh my, they give you a yakult here???! After sweating through the meal, it's such a sweet way to finish??? A jjamppong recommendation for the Eungol café street — Bongga Gyodong Jjamppong.
