## In short

Dongchuwon Bulgogi is a Seoul-style old-fashioned bulgogi restaurant on Hagik-so-ro in Michuhol-gu, Incheon. A family of four arrived close to the 20:30 last order and ordered three servings of Korean beef bulgogi at 25,000 won each — the portions were so generous that a fourth serving would have been far too much, and swishing the beef shabu-shabu style in the broth kept the flavour clean. With private rooms, group seating for 6 to 28 and seats set aside for families with small children, Dongchuwon Bulgogi is an easy choice for a family meal.

## A family of four at a Hagik-dong bulgogi restaurant late on a weekday

Hi everyone, this is Sharongcook. 👋 Today I went for bulgogi, a dish that everyone from kids to grownups loves. Dongchuwon Bulgogi, located in Hagik-dong, Incheon, is a spot that regulars already know well. It's famous as a Hagik-dong and Singi Market restaurant, so I'd recommend factoring in a wait when you visit.

My family visited on a weekday, late in the evening — close to last order time, I think. Even at that hour there were quite a few other customers. So, let's get into today's review of the old-style bulgogi that everyone loves.

Dongchuwon Bulgogi has a Republic of Korea plaque out front and a row of Blue Ribbon Survey stickers for five straight years, from 2022 to 2026. It's said to be not far from Singi Market either. Stepping inside, the interior is very neatly kept, with warm lighting and atmosphere. It's a comfortable place to eat with kids — there are family-friendly seats and a private room that's great for taking parents out.

It's popular enough to have its own waiting area. They also offer ice cream for dessert and takeout menu items like sujitang (beef tendon soup) and bulgogi.

## Inside Dongchuwon Bulgogi: tables and how many the rooms seat

The interior of Dongchuwon Bulgogi is quite spacious. There's a private room toward the back that's great for a more private meal, dining with parents, or a group gathering (it fits anywhere from 6 to 28 people). The tables are spaced generously apart, and each table itself felt much larger than at a typical restaurant.

## Dongchuwon Bulgogi menu and prices

Dongchuwon Bulgogi's true signature dishes are the Korean beef bulgogi at ₩25,000 (set ₩27,900) and the old-style bulgogi at ₩21,500 (set ₩24,900). The Korean beef hangover hot pot is ₩65,000 large / ₩51,000 medium, Korean beef minari tartare is ₩24,000, and grilled squid is ₩12,900.

The old-style bulgogi uses imported beef. Aside from that, there's a variety of meal options like gukbap (rice soup), gomtang (beef bone soup), naengmyeon (cold noodles), and bibimbap.

### The freebie: a free-range fertilized egg (egg code 1)

Dongchuwon Bulgogi gives out a free grade-1 egg (egg code 1) with Korean beef orders. You can drop the egg into the meat broth to make a poached egg.

Each table has a detailed guide on how to enjoy the old-style Korean beef bulgogi, which is handy to reference. It also explains how to use the bread that comes with the side dishes at the start to make a bulgogi burger.

## Dongchuwon Bulgogi's self-serve bar and side dishes

At Dongchuwon Bulgogi, you can refill side dishes at a self-serve bar off to the side of the dining room. The basic side dishes, neatly and cleanly set, are pickled onion, lettuce salad, gat (mustard leaf) pickles, pickled onion-cucumber jangajji, spicy radish salad, and napa cabbage kimchi.

I spent a while trying to figure out what the gat pickles were, haha — turns out it was the same gat, mustard leaf, from Yeosu that I love eating with meat!

## Is three servings of Korean beef bulgogi enough for four people?

We ordered three servings of Korean beef bulgogi at Dongchuwon Bulgogi. My husband, my high-school-aged daughter, our youngest, and I went together, and I was debating whether to order four servings and add more later, but I started with three — and the portion was massive. If we'd ordered four, we really would have been in trouble 😀

![Three servings of rounded Korean beef bulgogi bundles](https://img.superchart.com/images/hagik-dong-hanwoo-bulgogi-late-dinner/hagik-dong-hanwoo-bulgogi-late-dinner-18-toko4-900.webp)

![Thinly sliced Korean beef bulgogi in a vivid red color](https://img.superchart.com/images/hagik-dong-hanwoo-bulgogi-late-dinner/hagik-dong-hanwoo-bulgogi-late-dinner-19-y8fp5-900.webp)

![Korean beef bulgogi and scallion shreds on the grill](https://img.superchart.com/images/hagik-dong-hanwoo-bulgogi-late-dinner/hagik-dong-hanwoo-bulgogi-late-dinner-20-1yaci-900.webp)

The meat comes out in little rounded bundles, and the amount really is a lot. The quality of the Korean beef is excellent too — the vivid red color makes it clear how good it is before you even take a bite. The thinly sliced meat is grilled on the pan first, then dipped shabu-shabu style in the broth, and it's remarkably clean-tasting.

### What Seoul-style bulgogi in a shallow pool of broth tastes like

It's not overly seasoned or artificial-tasting, so you can eat it cleanly from start to finish. It's the Seoul-style bulgogi where you simmer it in a shallow pool of broth — a lot of places do bulgogi this way these days, but I'd rank this one as the cleanest-tasting of them.

The meat is delicious dipped plainly in the broth on its own, piled high with the scallion shreds that come with it, or paired with the pickled onion, raw onion, or gat pickles.

If you add plenty of the bulgogi broth and simmer it with vegetables and mushrooms, the vegetables and mushrooms release their flavor into the broth, making it even cleaner and lighter. A kettle of broth comes out with the meal so you can top it up as you go, and adding fresh broth doesn't dilute the flavor either.

## Building a bulgogi burger at the table: what the kids thought

At Dongchuwon Bulgogi, burger buns come out depending on how many servings you order. Our youngest wolfed down the plain bun so fast that we only managed to make one bulgogi burger. I didn't know what the gat pickles were at first, so I left them out, but even so, my high-school-aged daughter finished it off happily as a special treat 😅

## Why Dongchuwon Bulgogi in Hagik-dong is worth the trip

A wholesome broth, fresh vegetables and mushrooms, good-quality Korean beef that's savory and light, fresh vegetables, clean and flavorful side dishes, and a fun novelty in the bulgogi burger 🍔 that both kids and adults enjoy — all in a cozy, comfortable atmosphere. It works for lunch or dinner, and it's also a good spot for a drink with some anju (food to go with alcohol).

Maybe because it was late in the evening, there were quite a few people having a drink too.

![Table at Dongchuwon Bulgogi near the end of the meal](https://img.superchart.com/images/hagik-dong-hanwoo-bulgogi-late-dinner/hagik-dong-hanwoo-bulgogi-late-dinner-24-1rzgs-900.webp)

We simply ordered à la carte, but the set menus looked well put together too — the set comes with naengmyeon (cold noodles) and omija tea for dessert. Next time I'd like to try the set along with the beef tartare! I enjoyed it enough that I'd definitely go back.
