If you're looking for something to eat in Jeonju Hanok Village, try mun-kkochi (octopus skewer) — chewy octopus grilled over open flame and piled high with toppings. Walking through the Hanok Village with my kid, we stopped at Munkkocchi Mungangjeong and tried cheese mun-kkochi (spicy) for ₩6,000, katsuobushi mun-kkochi (mild) for ₩5,000, homemade sikhye for ₩4,000, and a self-serve slushy for ₩3,000. It's great for sharing one each with your kid, and the octopus was plump and chewy — I really wanted to recommend it as a snack that's good to eat with kids in Jeonju +_+

Jeonju Hanok Village has such a variety of food that every time I go I end up wondering what to try — from grilled cheese to chicken skewers, croquettes, tanghulu (candied fruit), to fish cakes, there are so many options, but the mun-kkochi we tried this time was a fun, easy-to-eat snack while strolling through the Hanok Village.

## Where is Munkkocchi in Jeonju Hanok Village?

Munkkocchi Mungangjeong is right next to the Traditional Culture Experience Center, and across from an old gingko tree that's one of Jeonju's oldest, so it wasn't hard to find even on a first visit. It's about a 3-minute walk from the Hanok Village public parking lot, so it was convenient to park and walk over, and it was also about a 3-minute walk from the Rahan Hotel where we were staying, so we walked there like it was part of our stroll with our kid.

Walking through the inner part of Jeonju Hanok Village, you'll come across many snack shops, and people kept ordering and eating in front of Munkkocchi, so it naturally caught my eye. There are 3 simple tables set up in front of the shop, and customers were using them.

If you're wearing hanbok and walking through the Hanok Village, it's a bit inconvenient to keep walking around holding a sauce-covered dish, right? Being able to sit down and eat comfortably for a bit made this good for families looking for a snack that's easy to eat with kids in Jeonju. Tissues and wet wipes were also set up around the tables, which was handy for eating something like mun-kkochi that comes with plenty of sauce.

## Munkkocchi menu and prices for octopus skewers

True to the name Munkkocchi Mungangjeong, you can order octopus skewers, chicken skewers, and fried chicken. My kid re-a-l-ly loves octopus skewers, so mun-kkochi was a must for us! You can pick your toppings to order it to your taste, and the toppings are

- Mala
- Katsuobushi
- Cheese

three toppings in total, and for sauce you can choose between

- Spicy
- Mild

If you're visiting with kids, a combo like katsuobushi mun-kkochi (mild) that isn't spicy works well, and if you like a bit of heat, cheese topping with the spicy sauce also worked nicely together. This time we ordered cheese mun-kkochi (spicy) for ₩6,000, katsuobushi mun-kkochi (mild) for ₩5,000, homemade sikhye for ₩4,000, and a self-serve slushy for ₩3,000.

Mun-kkochi is good on its own, but after eating the spicy sauce you start craving something cool to drink, and having both homemade sikhye and self-serve slushy on hand made it easy to order alongside.

The self-serve slushy is ₩3,000, so kids can add to the fun by picking and pouring it themselves. There's also a character rainbow slushy for ₩5,000 that younger kids would love.

What made mun-kkochi feel special among Jeonju Hanok Village foods wasn't just the octopus itself, but being able to watch it grilled over open flame right in front of you. The plump octopus turns golden brown over the fire, and even the smell of it grilling was the real deal.

When you think of street food, you tend to imagine something that just fills you up simply, but the octopus in mun-kkochi is fairly large and keeps its chewy texture, so it felt somewhere between a snack and a proper dish. Especially with the smoky char added to the octopus, it was a totally different flavor from the usual boiled octopus.

### Cheese octopus skewer (spicy): 6,000 won

The menu we enjoyed the most was the cheese mun-kkochi (spicy). They generously brush sauce over the well-grilled octopus and pile on plenty of cheese too, adding toppings without holding back until you can barely see the octopus underneath. Despite being called spicy, it wasn't intensely spicy at all — the savory flavor of the cheese made it a combo that was spicy yet mellow.

There's also the fun of watching the katsuobushi (bonito flakes) sway gently on top of the warm octopus. It's salty with a savory depth, and low on spice, so if you're looking for a snack that's easy to eat with kids in Jeonju, the cheese or katsuobushi mild versions are worth choosing. The octopus is skewered in bite-sized pieces, so it was easy for a family to order one and share.

Alongside the mun-kkochi, we also ordered homemade sikhye for ₩4,000 and a self-serve slushy for ₩3,000. With sauce and cheese piled onto the flame-grilled skewers, you start craving something cool as you eat, and the sweet, refreshing sikhye went really well with the spicy mun-kkochi.

## Is Munkkocchi a good snack stop in Jeonju with kids?

Jeonju Hanok Village is great for walking with kids and there are plenty of spots for photos, but when traveling with a kid, you can't skip the good snacks in between. What made this mun-kkochi special, unlike the chicken skewers you commonly eat, was that it's made with plump octopus grilled over open flame, and being able to choose your own toppings and sauce among cheese, katsuobushi, and mala made it easy to order to your taste. If you're looking for food in Jeonju Hanok Village and want a snack that's simple but filling to eat with kids in Jeonju, it's worth trying a freshly grilled mun-kkochi at Munkkocchi Mungangjeong.
