## In short

Jinsol Halmeoni Sundubu is a Korean restaurant in the Haksapyeong tofu alley in Sokcho, Gangwon, serving tofu made from domestic soybeans. On the last day of a two-day Sokcho trip, after checking out of the guesthouse, we ordered Chodang sundubu (plain soft tofu stew), spicy sundubu and hwangtae haejangguk (dried pollack hangover soup) all at once to compare, and the haejangguk with its plump pollack and the deeply spicy sundubu were the standouts. A comforting late-morning meal to settle the stomach at the end of a Sokcho trip.

Went on a weekend one-night trip to Sokcho with friends!? After checking out of the accommodation there's always that dilemma — "what should we eat for brunch?" We looked around and found a place with an overwhelming number of reviews: Jinsol Halmeoni Sundubu!

## Where is Jinsol Halmeoni Sundubu, and is there parking?

Jinsol Halmeoni Sundubu is located at 118 Wonam Haksapyeong-gil, Sokcho, Gangwon, in Sokcho's Haksapyeong tofu alley. It has parking for about 20 cars, and it's open daily 7:30–20:00, closing early once ingredients run out.

The road leading here really is a tofu alley!? Every tofu restaurant is clustered together here. This is Jinsol Halmeoni Sundubu, a place that makes 100% domestic soybean tofu in-house.

They also take group orders, so there's bus parking too.

A Sokcho lunch spot with no parking worries — this is Jinsol Halmeoni Tofu in Sokcho's sundubu village.

For anyone who had a drink the night before, or is on the last day of a Sokcho trip and wants a filling but not-too-heavy meal, Jinsol Halmeoni Sundubu has plenty of breakfast-brunch options.

## Inside Jinsol Halmeoni Sundubu: the hall and the group dining room

It was lunchtime and customers were pouring in, and I went in to eat too.

Inside, there were already a lot of people eating.

Right next to where people were eating

there's another dining space, which turned out to be a separate group dining area for larger parties. They were getting ready to receive a group.

## Jinsol Halmeoni Sundubu menu and prices

Here's the menu and prices at Jinsol Halmeoni Sundubu! There are single dishes and set meals, plus options like abai squid sundae or gamjajeon (potato pancake) as sides.

## Three bowls compared: Chodang sundubu, spicy sundubu, hwangtae haejangguk

My food and my friend's food arrived.

The banchan (side dishes) and mains — we ordered Chodang sundubu ₩12,000, spicy sundubu ₩14,000, and hwangtae haejangguk ₩12,000.

![Chodang sundubu, spicy sundubu, and hwangtae haejangguk on the table](https://img.superchart.com/images/sokcho-sundubu-checkout-brunch-three-bowls/sokcho-sundubu-checkout-brunch-three-bowls-10-n47c0-966.webp)

### Hwangtae haejangguk, ₩12,000 — plump dried pollack in the broth

The hwangtae haejangguk (dried pollack hangover soup) I ordered! A dish that could fill my stomach gently while still feeling like a proper, satisfying meal.

![Hwangtae haejangguk in a stone bowl](https://img.superchart.com/images/sokcho-sundubu-checkout-brunch-three-bowls/sokcho-sundubu-checkout-brunch-three-bowls-11-1vt2h-966.webp)

The soup was packed with plump, big pieces of hwangtae. Top of all the hwangtae haejangguk I've ever ordered — number 1! The fillings are really substantial and the hwangtae pieces are big! A super satisfying hwangtae haejangguk.

![Close-up of the plump hwangtae pieces in the soup](https://img.superchart.com/images/sokcho-sundubu-checkout-brunch-three-bowls/sokcho-sundubu-checkout-brunch-three-bowls-12-11eev-966.webp)

With the hot broth going in, it felt like it filled up my still-not-quite-awake stomach reassuringly. All that beer from last night, digested~

![Warm hwangtae haejangguk broth](https://img.superchart.com/images/sokcho-sundubu-checkout-brunch-three-bowls/sokcho-sundubu-checkout-brunch-three-bowls-13-sfm52-966.webp)

### Chodang sundubu, ₩12,000 — mild, unseasoned tofu

Since we came to Sokcho, my friend ordered the basic Chodang sundubu. Doesn't the pure white sundubu look so soft and jiggly? The soft, cloud-like sundubu comes unseasoned — a plain, mild, nutty tofu!!! Good for enjoying the clean, nutty taste as-is.

![Unseasoned, soft Chodang sundubu](https://img.superchart.com/images/sokcho-sundubu-checkout-brunch-three-bowls/sokcho-sundubu-checkout-brunch-three-bowls-15-1gku1-966.webp)

It might feel a bit bland, but for me, coming off a day of eating all sorts of things on the trip, something this plain went down really well.

![A bowl of plain, clean-tasting Chodang sundubu](https://img.superchart.com/images/sokcho-sundubu-checkout-brunch-three-bowls/sokcho-sundubu-checkout-brunch-three-bowls-16-chi7e-966.webp)

If you're traveling with a kid, or don't want something spicy and heavy first thing in the morning, Chodang sundubu is probably the safest choice.

### Spicy sundubu, ₩14,000 — what the extra ₩2,000 buys you

Whoa! This restaurant's spicy sundubu is amazing! Most places labeled "spicy sundubu" just sprinkle in some red pepper flakes for a bland kick, but here it was deeply, richly spicy and hot — top notch. Seriously (seriously).

![Deeply spicy sundubu](https://img.superchart.com/images/sokcho-sundubu-checkout-brunch-three-bowls/sokcho-sundubu-checkout-brunch-three-bowls-17-yb0p2-966.webp)

There were mushrooms in it too — now I get why it's about ₩2,000 more. But it was that much more delicious~!

![Mushrooms and other ingredients in the spicy sundubu](https://img.superchart.com/images/sokcho-sundubu-checkout-brunch-three-bowls/sokcho-sundubu-checkout-brunch-three-bowls-18-zjkcy-966.webp)

If Chodang sundubu is for enjoying tofu's natural nutty flavor, spicy sundubu is the pick when you want something warm, hot, and a bit richer. Perfect for curing a hangover, so good.

![Rich broth of the spicy sundubu](https://img.superchart.com/images/sokcho-sundubu-checkout-brunch-three-bowls/sokcho-sundubu-checkout-brunch-three-bowls-19-1nia0-966.webp)

Especially if you usually like soupy dishes like sundubu jjigae, spicy sundubu will probably suit your taste better than Chodang sundubu.

## Banchan from the self-serve corner

The banchan (side dishes) were all made with care and delicious — there was even a little buckwheat pancake to taste, and the cucumber salad had genuinely crunchy cucumber.

Salted squid! A total rice thief. You just help yourself to as much banchan as you want from the self-serve corner.

There was my beloved miyeok julgi (seaweed stem) too, and sweet braised potatoes.

## Can you eat with your dog at Jinsol Halmeoni Sundubu?

Jinsol Halmeoni Sundubu allows dining with pets. What surprised me was the pet-friendly seating — it's a room-like space off to the side, properly separated, so families with pets and regular diners never have to cross paths, which made for a comfortable meal for everyone.

There's also coffee on the way out. Grab your dessert on the way out too~!

## Is it worth a last brunch stop on a Sokcho trip?

On this Sokcho trip, Jinsol Halmeoni Sundubu was where we went after checking out of the accommodation, so it was our last brunch of the trip. What I personally liked was that even going with the same group, everyone could pick a different dish to suit their own taste.

- If you want something clean and light — Chodang sundubu
- If you're craving a hot, rich broth — spicy sundubu
- If you had a drink the night before and need something hot to cure it — hwangtae haejangguk!

Especially if your Sokcho trip involved a lot of hoe (raw fish) and drinking, it's probably better the next morning to fill up on warm Korean food like this rather than another heavy meal. We too checked out wondering "what should we eat before we go?" and in the end, felt like it was a great choice for our last meal in Sokcho.

If you're looking for something filling in Sokcho during that awkward window between breakfast and lunch, or a Korean menu you can share with your parents, or a place to cure a hangover from the night before, this menu lineup fits well. If you want sundubu in Sokcho, I'd recommend ordering a few different dishes together to compare!

Doing it the way we did — checkout, then brunch at Jinsol Halmeoni Sundubu, then heading to your next stop or back home — worked out well. For us, wanting to eat something Sokcho-worthy and filling right up to the end of the trip, this was a meal that let us finish on a good note.
